Hello everyone, hope your day went well.
You are welcome to my blog.
Let's laugh a little shall we?
Having a profession is good, being skilled at your profession is better but being a pro at what you are skilled at is best.
This was the slogan that Uncle Mike carried around everywhere.
He believed he was a pro at working with anything electrical and he owned it with his full chest.
He was a young man in his late twenties, a bachelor that lived with his brother in my neighborhood.
His shop was his room as he considered it a waste of money to rent a shop. He wrote his phone number boldly with charcoal on the wall of the building for everyone's eyes to feast.
Uncle Mike did not stop there o, he also went about asking for electrical work from neighborhood familiars.
None of us had seen him take on a major electrical job. We knew him to repair spoilt radios, television set, wall switches and other mini jobs. So you can imagine our surprise when we saw uncle Mike climbing an electric pole one morning.
"Uncle Mike what are you doing up there asked papa Nkechi our next neighbor.
"Papa Nkechi, goid afternoon sir. I am wiring this house, he said pointing to the two storey building behind him.
God has finally given me this big contract, now you all will believe that I am a pro, he added.
"No problem then carry on" Papa Nkechi said and walked away.
A few hours later, screams and shouts were heard coming from that two storey building. As usual neighbours around came and gathered in front of the building to see and possibly catch some gossip.i followed as well because I didn't want to be told.
After a few minutes of prying and we were told what happened. Uncle Mike had finished wiring the house and as soon as NEPA (power distribution company) brought light, the whole building began to shock (electrocute people).
An elderly woman testified to this as she said that the staircase railing shocked her (electrocuted her) while she was coming down the stairs and threw her on the floor. Another tenant ran out screaming that her metal door did the same thing to her when she tried to close the door, she was electrocuted.
Eh!, na wa o could be heard all over. Some people suggested that uncle Mike be called to rectify his mistake but a strong objection arose from the affected parties and at the end a call to the district NEPA office was put through and by evening everything was fixed by the real professionals.
As for Uncle Mike, no one dared to give him any electrical work again (no one wants to be electrocuted, hehe)
