Elderly people are the worst of the worst. Apart from choosing to ignore your greeting whenever they feel like, reprimanding you for not greeting and still being overly dramatic, they can do all sort of things to drive you crazy. I always wondered if they mostly did things to get back at us for what their own elders did to them.
I could remember in high school, our seniors considered themselves as our elders and it was as if there was this handbook they were gladly handed over to ensure they carried out their duties well. Whenever you did the mistake of greeting them with your head and not your mouth, you get punished. If you were lucky to use your mouth and not use your body to support that greeting, you're off to scrub the toilet.
I was careful enough to evade all these display of elderly persons in form of seniors and one day after I'd boasted to my other classmates, I was suddenly called into the elders den. One with a wry smile on his face greeted me before I could say any thing. I responded and with that came a nice enough slap on the back of my head.
...it's not proper for your elders to greet you first
Apologizing immediately and holding back my tears, I wore a big smile on my face as they addressed me. They actually needed me to go get them some stuffs, drinks, chops and some simple junks. I was excited because it had actually been my first time and it was Clear that they were warming up to me. After they'd made their list, they gave me half a dollar to go get everything. I looked up at the elder, everything they'd mentioned was more that $5 and they asked me to bring change.
I pleaded with them but it fell on deaf years. Then after minutes of pleading, I finally stood up and told them to wait for me. I got out of their den and started to contemplate what I was going to do.
think like an elder!
Well, they all received the surprise of their lives when I had refered them to another of their classmates claiming they had collected these items and made away with the change. There was a brawl after that and everyone had forgotten I was there.
My grandma had recently come to stay with us for a while. She was the sweetest being in the world with a smile that'll leave you with so many questions but I didn't mind her, I loved her still untill...
Can you guess?
Well, I came back from playing football to meet the pot I had left my food empty. After crying for a while, grandma found me and felt pity on me, then she gave me some money to go get some of my favorite biscuits. I was so happy that I ran almost immediately. On my way back I found her eating the meat that had been reserved for my dad. It was easy then to put two and two together, she'd played me.
There was no one I could refer her to and everyone grown was still at her mercy. She smiled at me then went on fighting with the meat she had no teeth for. Some days later, I was in the living room watching my favorite cartoon when she called me and asked me to go help her get her glasses in the room. I reluctantly did and when I got back there she was, remote in hand half asleep watching news. I knew if I made any slight move to s
Change that channel she'd spot it faster than she found her glasses. At that moment I'd wished she'd just never wake up.
I don't want to ever get old. I don't want to ask someone to help me do something only to end up complaining that the stuff wasn't done well. I don't want to be hated and left to spend the rest of my old age in isolation, God help me!
