After getting two notifications from different people inviting me to participate in this contest, I had to give it a try although I am still not sure if this article fits in I had to write something instead of not writing only because I feel, I don't know the right article to pen down.
All thanks to and
for the invite, I am grateful.
There is a slang that we now say to define the situation of our economy in Nigeria " The prices of the things in the market no be anybody mate."
I remember back then when I and my friend would go out with money and most times end up spending it on petty things we never planned to buy from the onset without even bothering to check our pockets or purse a second time.
We would go to the market to buy a particular thing but would end up buying so much that when we get home, we will be surprised at how much we spent and most especially on the things we never planned to buy.
Just yesterday, I decided to get a few things for my hair wash day and so we both headed out whilst heading to the place we were meant to get these things, I told my friend how I was craving ice cream but then I could not get it.
We both started laughing as she began to reminisce on the old good days, we never cared about how much was inside our purses, we ate what we felt like eating and spent the way we wished to as long as we had the money to spend.
As if that wasn't enough, when we got to the hair product shop, I was astonished at the rate of increase in prices within a few weeks of getting these same products.
After trying out close to three shops, I gave up on getting any products for myself and decided to take back my money home without buying anything.
I decided that indeed that phrase, "the prices of things in the market no be anybody mate" is true and instead of getting those costly products, I decided to use my money to buy enough food and fruits and take home which I plan to enjoy to the fullest, I can not come and kill myself with my own money.
Instead of getting those products, I have resorted to doing those products the natural way and using them on my hair since the economy of Nigeria and decided to make some of us wonder what will become of us very soon with the rate at which the prices of things are increasing rapidly.
Imagine back then, a thousand naira can cook a sumptuous pot of soup but now, a thousand naira can not even cook a delicious pot of rice for a family. 😆, How did we get here that going to the market has become like watching horror movies?
It is in Nigeria that you save for rainy days but end up even eating your savings even before the rainy days because you don't want to die of hunger because of the prices of things and I am not even sure there is anyone planning to do the saving for rainy days except you have a death wish to die before the supposed rainy day.
As for me, I am not ready to die before the rainy day so I decided to chop my money to the fullest.
This is my entry for The COMedy Rumble and I'll like to invite and
to participate too.
