My dad thinks he's funny, he's always making jokes round the house. Some of them are funny, most of them aren't but we still have to laugh to make him feel good, points for efforts right?
When my mom gets angry with him, he tries his best to make her laugh. Sometimes he tries to drag us along with him but we know how to dodge him, nobody wants to get on my mom's bad side, he should carry the cross alone. This day, we were talking about rats. We heard some noise the previous night but everybody was too lazy to stand up. Plus, we knew it was probably rats fighting over who got to raid the kitchen this time. As far as all the meals were covered, we had nothing to worry about, this isn't the first time we've heard noise in the middle of the night.
There we were in the room that day, my sister and I, pressing our phones when he works in. My mum came into the room, she was trying to get something from one of our shelves and my dad saw this as the perfect opportunity to deliver his joke. He goes,
"Did any of the hear the noise yesterday? That's how someone would enter the house and all of you would be sleeping, I had to be the man yesterday and make sure everywhere was locked".
I'm sure everybody was thinking the exact same thing, THAT'S YOUR JOB. He then goes,
"I woke up yesterday to check where it came from. I went straight for the kitchen"
It was at this point we started listening to him.
He said.
"I was hearing voices coming from kitchen. I came back to the rooms to check if we were all complete, everybody was complete in bed. I went back to the kitchen and you won't believe what I saw. Two rats, one was standing up top the pot of soup, it was turning the soup with a big spoon and it was asking the other one to bring maggi. I swear I heard the other one saying the rat turning the soup shouldn't add maggi, that your mum made it sweet already. When they saw me, they asked me to help them off the gas"
My mum knows once she laughs, he had gotten her and she can't stay angry at him again but she could not hold it in, she burst into laughter, we did too.
He left the room a happy man. He was very satisfied with himself
Joke or not, I knew I heard noises and I knew now that rats were involved. As far as there was noise in that kitchen and rats were involved, I'm not eating that soup. On the other hand, it might turn out sweet, I just remembered the "Ratatouille" movie but then again, life is not a cartoon.
