One thing I will always appreciate my parents for is sending me to a boarding school.
And mixed school for that matter.
My roommates in school were all very talented, beautiful, intelligent, and very dramatic.
I used to do what I'm doing now those days, writing about our different characters and personalities.
I will be using their real names here and later share this link in our group chat, they have to be reminded for the last time.
Starting with my bonky: Detective Helen
Her name is Helen. We call her Madam because of her imposing attitude. She was the detective who wouldn't fail to jump into your private life and uncover your secret. Even if it means being your friend for one week, she will become that your best friend and make sure she broadcast you when she has gathered enough information.
Peace makes fun of people but gets angry when someone makes fun of her. She nags and complains about everything.
We call her mother peace because she is always ready to point out your wrongs and care for you in a manner you wouldn't appreciate.
Cecilia was the lover girl. You will never know she could love because of her holy footsteps and innocent face. She did all her romance in secret but still got caught by Helen. Peace named her Cecilia de Pretender.
Edara Obong was a rich kid. A day doesn't pass without her throwing a garri, golden morn, or cornflask party. Your own is to bring your biggest spoon and be ready to eat as fast as you can.
The only bad side is that she, Edara will later tell all the boys she is the one feeding her roommates. We will get angry and shout at her, and even swear not to eat her food again. But fate will always gather us back around her bowl.
Favour was another positive vibe in the room. Her own is to persuade any angry person to take action. You will hear her say something like “What I hate most is when someone brags too much, and can't even do a thing at the end”. The angry soul will want to prove her wrong and she will become the coach of the fight.
One good thing about her is that she never forgets birthdays. She's always the brain behind every birthday surprise.
We have Promise who cries every day. She will always look for one thing on Monday and Sunday morning, be it her beret, socks, or uniform shirt. Just anything.
One good thing is that seniors don't dare beat her, because she will cry until the matron asks her why she's crying.
Ugochi was the calmest of us all. She grew up with her grandmother and therefore inherited the mature traits of saving money.
When once you give her your money to save don't bother looking for it. The money isn't kept in one place, it can be tied to the edge of her wrapper or somewhere inside unused socks or soap packets.
Well, you may want to know who I was...
I was the writer and storyteller of the class. I didn't let any interesting moments slip off my memory, especially the fights and arguments aspects.
Peace will always call me “Aunty Journalist. Give me that nonsense you wrote let me waste my time again”.
