I went to visit a friend of mine on Sunday after church. He was very excited to see me. We used to live in the same state but he relocated to Lagos when he got a job offer and since I'm now living in Lagos, I reached out and we agreed to meet up in his house.
Not long after I got to his house, he received an urgent call that needed him to step out. He pleaded with me to give him 5 minutes to go pick up a package and also asked me to relax and feel at home.
In all honesty, his house is so tastefully furnished. With the AC on and a big screen TV, it certainly felt like home. A nice aroma was coming from the kitchen and I decided to go and check out what was going on there since I was hungry, coming straight from church and all. It had this nice aroma of roasted chicken. I opened his oven and there it was, the roasted chicken. It looked so inviting I couldn't resist and so I brought it out, one of the roasted chicken thighs. I opened the pot and found he had just made jollof rice and fried rice. I helped myself to a plate. It looked so beautiful I couldn't resist taking a picture for my WhatsApp status with the title, "la mood".
I went to his wine cellar and helped myself to a bottle of red wine and then went back to the sitting room where I sat munching the chicken, eating the rice, drinking the bottle of red wine and watching Netflix. He was still note back as at the time I was done with the food. I remembered seeing some apples on the kitchen table. I knew he wouldn't mind since he asked me to feel at home and so back to the kitchen I went and helped myself with 2 apples.
I was munching the last one when he walked in looking so apologetic. "I see you are already feeling at home", he said smiling. I simply nodded and smiled back as I was engrossed in the movie I was watching. He smiled and went into the kitchen. The next thing I heard was a scream reverberating through the walls. He screamed my name so loud that I wondered what crime I must have committed. That he was furious is an understatement. Turns out the food was for a special dinner with someone special that evening.
l felt bad but he asked me to feel at home and I mean, in my house I can eat anything I want.
What does it mean when someone says "you should please feel at home?" Where did I go wrong?
