Yesterday, I received these fantastic albums in the post. I always enjoy checking out new music, and these were all high on my wishlist. All of these bands play Black Metal, and all hail from the UK, but they all have their own unique take on the style...
Wodensthrone - Loss
Wodensthrone - Curse
Lets start of with Wodensthrone, this band only managed 2 releases, before calling it a day. Such a shame, as there real potential for the future. They played decent atmospheric black metal with plenty progressive elements. The guitar work is exceptional with beatuiful tremelo picking inbetween the brutal black metal riffs. Both albums are awesome, but the 2nd album Curse is exceptional and deserves to be remebered as one of the classics of the UK Black Metal Scene
Voices - From The Human Forest Create A Fugue Of Imaginary Rain
Next we move onto Voices. The highly acclaimed Akercocke split in 2012 (briefly lol, they reformed again in 2016), and Voices rose up from their ashes. This is their first album, and is an interesting listen. I wouldn't say its great, as it seems to come across as slightly forced. Almost as though its missing something. Their second album London is much, much better...
From The Human Forest... is still an interesting listen, and I now own all 3 Voices albums so I've completed the set.
Old Corpse Road/The Meads of Asphodel - The Bones Of This Land Are Not Speechless / English Black Punk Metal
And we have the split album. I bought this for the Old Corpse Road tracks, as they are one of the highlights of the UK's extreme metal scene. Lyrics incorporate local folklore and ghost stories, and the vocals are really interesting as each band member contributes different vocals from guttural roars to high pitched shrieks. The other band on the split (Meads of Asphodel) are a bit more hit and miss and most of it seems to 'covers'. Sometimes awesome, and sometimes a bit odd. Nevermind, its worth it just some new Old Corpse Road.
