There is always a time before a legend becomes a legend.
And this was also the case for one of the biggest names in Electronic Music: the band Kraftwerk
Today we look at a historic document: the first video footage that was made of the band, shortly after it was founded in 1970 and with the first line up - Ralf Hütter – Hammond-Orgel, Klaus Dinger – Drums, Florian Schneider-Esleben – Flute.
As you can see - and hear - it was still a long way from the typical Kraftwerk sound that later made them famous.
This rare footage is from a series of TV concert productions (with the common title "Rockpalast") in Germany, that featured Rock Music, Avantgarde and Experimental Music. Something that does not happen today anymore.
And man - it was experimental alright! You can see, that even in the audience at the concert, who was expecting the unusual, there are a lot of dropped jaws, especially at the beginning.
However, in parts you can already recognise phrases of their later album tracks "Stratovarius" and "Ruckzuck".
So have a look and listen at the full length Kraftwerk segment of the Rockpalast Concert "Mixed Media aus Soest“ from 1970. If you dare... :)
