After having read two shortish books, more booklets, I am about to embark on a long reading journey.
I need your help in deciding which book to read next?
Somewhere Beyond the Sea
by TJ Klune
or
Iron Gold
by Pierce Brown
Both books are quite thick, relatively easy to read, not easy on content and pondering after. Both are familiar. Klune's book is a continuation of a wonderful story The House in the Cerulean Sea which I read last year, I think.
Iron Gold is a fourth book in Red Rising saga. Actually the first of the second part since there is a divide of ten years between third and fourth installment.
I am reluctant to pick Pierce's work exactly because of this gap. Darrow, our hero managed to achive what he was striving for in first three books. But, as it always is in life, this achievement brought him more sorrow than joy. Also, Brown's books are, on one side, extremely bloody and violent, while on the other side they bring friendship, love, hope. And constant betrayal. This is a full blown space opera mixed with mythology and amazing science achievements. Yet, in the end, there are always people that make the change. No matter how powerful technology is, how strong the prejudice or indoctrination of Society, individuals and their beliefs are the moving force of the universe.
Klune is one of my favorite authors. His books are gentle, intriguing, always a bit off, weird, queer. His heroes find themselves in impossible situations and are able to find love and acceptance.
Are you familiar with the phrase "See Something, Say Something"? I encounter it on a daily basis in last time. Which scares me a lot. It looks so innocent yet it is a foundation of oppression. Actually, an indoctrination in self-oppression. Why? You tell me, please. I want to hear your opinion before I disclose mine. I won't judge you, or try to convince you, I promise. I simply wish to see how you think, to feel your thought-ways. Thank you.
Decision?
So, which one should it be? Space opera with lots of blood and love, part four, or intimate drama of wonderful creatures, part two. Brown or Klune?
Hey, isn't there a poll functionality hidden somewhere on Hive frontends? Let me try it ... I hope that this will work and that you will be able to see it and use it no matter what the frontend.
If in doubt, use ;) This is my favorite interface and the one that this article will be published with.
Final words? Six days of vacation are in front of me. Yes, I'll be doing some office work but most of the time it will be leisure and fun. Swimming, running, cycling, doggy walks, reading books. Ideal time to start reading a thick book, don't you think so too? Anyways, I can't be wrong with either of these two books. Eventually I'll read them both.
Thank you for your opinions, have a great time. Love each other, will you?
better and better :ervin :lemark
