16 лютого в Україні святкують особливе свято - День єднання.
Акцію створив президент України Володимир Зеленський в 2022 році. Головною метою цього було- показати єдність українського народу на тлі російської військової загрози.
On February 16, Ukraine celebrates a special holiday - Unity Day.
The campaign was created by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in 2022. The main purpose of this was to show the unity of the Ukrainian people against the background of the Russian military threat.
Я чудово пам’ятаю початок 2022 року. Була дуже сильна емоційна напруга. Про можливий наступ не говорив тільки ледачий. На роботі, на вулиці, в кав’ярнях, по радіо та телебаченню. Я якраз на початку лютого закінчував черговий проект і планував починати нову роботу. Але вже тоді серед моїх замовників і партнерів відчувалась тривога і невпевненість в доцільності щось нове розпочинати, тому що було відчуття якоїсь невизначеності.
Кожної вільної хвилини я слідкував за новинами: що там сказав Зеленський?, а що Байден?, а що Джонсон? Ситуація була не зрозуміла, а перспективи туманні. Справи не рухались, але якась надія , що це блеф, таки залишалась. Мені хотілось вірити в краще.
Мені в ті дні подобалась реакція на обставини української влади, яка закликала громадян країни не панікувати. І я якось і насправді заспокоївся, відчув якусь сторонню підтримку і налаштував свій мозок на сприйняття любих варіантів розвитку подій.
Вважаю одним з дуже правильних дій влади в ті дні- оголошення 16 лютого Днем єднання України, щоб показати єдність українського народу, згуртувати українців навколо національної ідеї та показати російським пропагандистам, що українці — це єдиний народ.
«Нам кажуть, що 16 лютого стане днем нападу. Ми зробимо його днем єднання. Відповідний указ уже підписано. Цього дня ми вивісимо національні прапори, надягнемо синьо-жовті стрічки та покажемо всьому світу нашу єдність», — наголошував у минулому році Зеленський, повідомляючи про встановлення нового свята.
I remember the beginning of 2022 very well. There was a very strong emotional tension. Only the lazy did not talk about a possible offensive. At work, on the street, in coffee shops, on radio and television. I was just finishing another project at the beginning of February and was planning to start a new job. But even then, among my customers and partners, there was anxiety and uncertainty about the advisability of starting something new, because there was a feeling of uncertainty.
Every free minute I followed the news: what did Zelensky say? What did Biden say? What did Johnson say? The situation was not clear, and the prospects were vague. Things did not move, but some hope that it was a bluff still remained. I wanted to believe in the best.
In those days, I liked the reaction to the circumstances of the Ukrainian authorities, which called on the citizens of the country not to panic. And somehow I actually calmed down, felt some external support and adjusted my brain to perceive any options for the development of events.
I consider one of the very correct actions of the government in those days - the announcement of February 16 as the Day of the Unity of Ukraine to show the unity of the Ukrainian people, to rally Ukrainians around the national idea and to show Russian propagandists that Ukrainians are a single people.
"We are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack. We will make it a day of unity. The corresponding decree has already been signed. On this day, we will hoist national flags, wear blue and yellow ribbons and show the whole world our unity," Zelensky emphasized last year, announcing the establishment of a new holiday.
Зазвичай , українці не довіряють владі, тим більше не сприймають жодних ініціатив, які виходять від влади. Але цього разу , на диво, люди дуже тепло сприйняли таку ініціативу. Ніби вже давно відчували цю внутрішню потребу єднання, але у них не було лідера.
Usually, Ukrainians do not trust the authorities, and even more so do not accept any initiatives that come from the authorities. But this time, surprisingly, people received such an initiative very warmly. As if they had felt this internal need for unity for a long time, but they had no leader.

Українці насправді дивовижні. В окупації всі допомагали друг другу, як могли. Ділились останнім шматком хліба в прямому сенсі. Потужний волонтерський рух від сходу до заходу. Зникли всі протиріччя між людьми з різних регіонів. Всі об’єдналися на основі любові до України, захисту держави, мистецтва виживання, боротьбі з ворогом, віри в Перемогу.
Дуже надіюсь, що ця єдність збережеться і надалі, а після перемоги тільки зміцніє. Заради розбудови незалежної України, заради її процвітання, задля щасливого майбутнього наших дітей.

Ukrainians are actually amazing. During the occupation, everyone helped each other as best they could. They literally shared the last piece of bread. A strong volunteer movement from east to west. All contradictions between people from different regions have disappeared. Everyone united on the basis of love for Ukraine, protection of the state, art of survival, fight against the enemy, faith in Victory.
I really hope that this unity will be preserved in the future, and after the victory it will only get stronger. For the sake of building an independent Ukraine, for its prosperity, for the sake of a happy future for our children.
