Вісім років тому, 26 травня 2014 року, відбувся перший бій за Донецький аеропорт.
Російські підрозділи спільно з силами сепаратистів спробували захопити термінали аеропорту.
Українські підрозділи спеціального призначення спільно з десантниками , при вогневій підтримці авіації, зуміли зупинити ворога, завдавши йому великих втрат.
Після бою 26 травня ситуація навколо аеропорту була деякий час відносно спокійною.
Серйозні штурми розпочались у вересні 2014 року і тривали до 22 січня 2015 року. Самими тяжкими були бої на початку 2015 року.
Бої за Донецький аеропорт стали одними з найтрагічніших у сучасній історії.
Українські воїни тримали оборону в оточенні противника на протязі 242 днів. В спеку та холод, без води та їжі, вони проявили надзвичайну стійкість та мужність. Українці дали їм назву ‘кіборги’, бо наші захисники були міцнішими за бетон.
Ще 13 січня на зруйнованій вежі аеропорту майорів український прапор,
а 21 січня 2015 року військовослужбовці ЗСУ з боями вийшли з території терміналів,бо їх позиції були повністю зруйновані.
Донецький аеропорт став своєрідним символом нескореності українського народу .

Eight years ago, on May 26, 2014, the first battle for Donetsk airport took place.
Russian units together with separatist forces tried to seize the airport terminals.
Ukrainian special forces, together with paratroopers, with the fire support of aircraft, managed to stop the enemy, inflicting heavy losses.
After the battle on May 26, the situation around the airport was relatively calm for some time.
Serious assaults began in September 2014 and lasted until January 22, 2015. The heaviest fighting was in early 2015.
The battles for Donetsk airport have become one of the most tragic in modern history.
Ukrainian soldiers defended the enemy for 242 days. In the heat and cold, without water and food, they showed extraordinary resilience and courage. Ukrainians called them ‘cyborgs’ because our defenders were stronger than concrete.
On January 13 on the destroyed tower of the airport of majors the Ukrainian flag,
and on January 21, 2015, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdrew from the territory of the terminals, as their positions were completely destroyed.
Donetsk airport has become a kind of symbol of the indomitability of the Ukrainian people.
