June 2022 is on the calendar. It is already the 110th day of Ukraine's war with the Russian occupiers. Kherson is a city with almost 300,000 inhabitants and became the only Ukrainian city of regional significance that the Russians managed to capture in the first days of the aggression. The locals are resisting as best they can, refusing to cooperate with the occupiers and waiting for the Ukrainian army to finally release them.
The question arises, how could this happen? After all, the city is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River, which should have been an insurmountable obstacle for the occupiers, as only one bridge leads to the city from the left bank. Why was the bridge not mined and blown up to prevent the Russians from crossing to the other side? Why did the army give up the city almost without a fight?
Answering the question, experts and officials of Ukraine explain the failure in this (southern) direction by the following factors: betrayal, incompetence of certain officials responsible for this region and the total superiority of the enemy in heavy weapons.
Betrayal factor. After the occupiers appeared on the streets of Kherson, former local politicians were appointed to "rule" the city. One of them was the former mayor of Kherson Volodymyr Saldo. The man who ruled the city for a long time, losing the election, decided to regain power in this way. One who betrayed the inhabitants by condemning them to suffering.
Incompetence factor. The offensive in the southern region, including Kherson, was carried out from the Russian-occupied Crimea in 2014. The fact is that Crimea is a peninsula that has very narrow road connections with mainland Ukraine. Bottlenecks were mined and they were relatively easy to hold even with small forces. The aggressor passed all these areas almost without resistance. The question remains for those Ukrainian servicemen who were responsible for this.
Finally, the third factor is the total advantage of the Russians in heavy weapons. Kherson region is steppes. There are almost no hills or rivers that could naturally deter the enemy army. As mentioned above, having crossed the Crimean Isthmus almost without a fight, the Ukrainian army could repel only on the condition of parity in armaments. Unfortunately, Ukraine did not have such weapons (in the required quantity). World powers, in turn, have delayed the provision of appropriate weapons. As a result, on the 110th day of the war, Kherson remained occupied.
Meanwhile, almost half of the population has left the city. Those who remain must survive every day without work, medicine, and high food prices. They are forced to live in daily fear, because the occupiers kidnap, torture and rape. There is no law and order in the city.
Despite all these horrors, Ukrainians, and especially the inhabitants of the occupied territories, are looking forward to the heavy weapons promised to the world by Ukraine. Weapons that will allow to occupy the occupiers and expel them from Ukraine. After all, Kherson shows by its example what will happen when barbarians come to your house in order to bring order to soybeans. If the aggressor is not stopped today, any European city may find itself in the place of Kherson tomorrow.
На календарі червень місяць 2022 року. Йде вже 110 день війни України з російськими окупантами. Херсон – місто, яке налічувало майже 300 тисяч мешканців, та стало єдиним українським містом обласного значення, яке росіянам вдалося захопити у перші дні агресії. Місцеві жителі як можуть чинять супротив, відмовляються співпрацювати з окупантами та чекають, коли їх нарешті звільнить українська армія.
Виникає питання, як таке могло трапитись? Адже місто розташоване на правому березі річки Дніпро, що мало стати нездоланною перешкодою для окупантів, оскільки з лівого берега до міста веде лише один міст. Чому міст не було заміновано та підірвано, аби не дати росіянам переправитись на інший берег? Чому армія майже без бою віддала місто?
Відповідаючи на поставленні питання, експерти та офіційні особи України пояснюють провал у цьому (південному) напрямку наступними чинниками: зрада, некомпетентність певних посадовців що відповідали за цей регіон та тотальну перевагу ворога у важкому озброєнні.
Фактор зради. Після появи окупантів на вулицях Херсону, «керувати» містом поставили бувших місцевих політиків. Одним з них став колишній мер Херсону Володимир Сальдо. Людина, яка тривалий час керувала містом, програвши вибори, вирішив повернути собі владу таким чином. Той, хто зрадив мешканців прирікши їх на страждання.
Фактор некомпетентності. Наступ у південному регіоні, в тому числі і на Херсон, здійснювався з окупованого росіянами у 2014 році Криму. Справа в тому, що Крим – це півострів, який має дуже вузькі дорожні сполучення з материковою Україною. Вузькі місця, були заміновані і їх було відносно легко утримувати навіть незначними силами. Агресор пройшов всі ці ділянки майже без супротиву. Залишається питання до тих українських військових, хто за це відповідав.
Нарешті третій фактор – тотальна перевага росіян у важкому озброєнню. Херсонська область – це степи. Майже відсутні пагорби чи річки, що природнім шляхом могли стримувати ворожу армію. Як сказано вище, пройшовши Кримський перешийок майже без бою, дати відсіч українське військо могло тільки за умови паритету у озброєнні. Україна, на жаль, такого озброєння (у потрібній кількості), не мала. Світові держави, в свою чергу, забарилися з наданням відповідних озброєнь. Як наслідок на 110 день війни Херсон залишається окупованим.
Тим часом місто покинуло майже половина мешканців. Ті, хто залишився, кожного дня мають виживати без роботи, ліків, з великими цінами на продукти харчування. Вимушені жити під щоденним страхом, адже окупанти викрадають, катують, ґвалтують. Закону і порядку у місті не існує.
Попри всі ці жахи, українці, а особливо мешканці окупованих територій, з надією чекають на важке озброєння, яке пообіцяв світ Україні. Озброєння, яке дасть змогу вибити окупантів та прогнати їх з України. Адже Херсон на своєму прикладі показує, що буде коли в твій дім приходять варвари з метою ввести сої порядки. Якщо сьогодні агресора не зупинити, завтра на місці Херсону може опинитися любе європейське місто.
