76th day of the war.
Today I was covered with a wave of melancholy from sad news: about the ongoing nightmare in Mariupol, about shelling of Odessa, about the destroyed house in Izium, from under the rubble of which 40 people’s bodies were recovered, and about how in the beginning of March the invaders terrorized and robbed the center of social adaptation in Levonky, Chernihiv region, and robbed literally homeless people there. Yes, unfortunately, we have been receiving sad news for the 76th day of a full-scale invasion and almost every day for the last 8 years before that. But there are days when it becomes especially painful. At such moments, communication with loved ones and art saves me.
Сьогодні мене накрило хвилею меланхолії від сумних новин: про невпинний жах, що коїться в Маріуполі, про обстріл Одеси, про зруйнований будинок в Ізюмі, з-під завалів якого дістали тіла 40 людей, і про те, як у Левоньках Чернігівської області окупанти на початку березня тероризували та пограбували центр соціальної адаптації, де перебували безпритульні люди. Так, на жаль, сумні новини ми отримуємо ось уже 76 день повномасштабного вторгнення і майже кожен день останні 8 років до того. Але є дні, коли стає особливо боляче. У такі моменти мене рятує спілкування з близькими та мистецтво.

Today I want to talk about another illustrator who is part of our cultural army. Oksana Bula came up with a world in which animals called "tukoni" live. You may have seen them in popular children's books. Based on these heroes, even games were created.
Сьогодні хочу розповісти про ще одну ілюстраторку, яка є частиною нашого культурного війська. Оксана Була вигадала світ, у якому живуть звірята під назвою "туконі". Ви могли їх бачити у популярних дитячих книжках. На основі цих героїв навіть було створено ігри.

Now, during the war, she is drawing a continuation of her story. Her character Snowdrop wakes up, ready to meet spring, but instead of spring, he learns that the world is attacked by the Crimson Beast. He and his friends, other animals in the forest, do everything possible to cope with it.
Тепер, під час війни, вона малює продовження своєї історії. Її персонаж Пролісок прокидається, готовий зустрічати весну, але замість весни він дізнається, що на світ нападає Багряний Звір. І він зі своїми друзями, іншими тваринками у лісі, робить все можливе, аби з цим справитись.

I know people who read these stories to children. This makes it easier for them to explain what is happening, because it is important for the psychological state of children.
Для цього вони ховаються у норах, тікають від пожеж, ховаються у сусідів, коли їхні норки вже залиті водою чи спалені, і діляться однією ковдрою на всіх, коли в цьому є потреба. Я знаю людей, які читають ці історії дітям. Так їм легше пояснювати, що відбувається, бо це важливо для психологічного стану дітей.
The cultural front is the same front as the military one, as well as the economic front and any other front. During World War II, a minister suggested that Winston Churchill cut spending on art and preserving cultural heritage to focus on military needs. Then he answered him: "And what are we fighting for then?". This question just hung in my head. That's right - we are fighting for our heritage, for our country, for our identity. That is why all our cultural achievements and victories are important. And that is why, in particular, this year's Eurovision, which will start today at 22:00 Kyiv time, is so important. We are predicted to win, but regardless of the result, I am glad that we will be able to present our country with such a heartfelt song - a song about motherly love - which has already become a symbol of Ukrainians' fight.
Культурний фронт - такий самий фронт, як і військовий, як і економічний і будь-який інший. Під час Другої Світової Війни один з міністрів запропонував Вінстону Черчілю скоротити витрати на мистецтво та зберігання культурної спадщини, аби зосередитися на військових потребах. Тоді він відповів йому: "А за що ми тоді воюємо?". Це питання просто зависло у моїй голові. Це ж так і є - ми воюємо саме за нашу спадщину, за свою країні, за свою ідентичність. Тому всі наши культурні надбання та перемоги мають значення. І саме тому, зокрема, цьогорічне Євробачення, яке розпочнеться сьогодні о 22:00 за Київським часом, має таке важливе значення. Нам пророкують перемогу, але незважаючи на результат, я рада, що ми зможемо гідно представити нашу країну з такою душевною піснею - піснею про материнську любов - яка вже встигла стати символом Української боротьби.
