Ох ці раптові зустрічі з комашиним світом. Здавалося б, що вже всіх жуків за роки вивчив і при черговій зустрічі на ділянці вже сприймаєш їх за належне.

Але вчора, після рясної зливи на очі потрапив цей жук, верніше "жучіщще", розміром, напевно з сірникову коробку. Таких великих "монстрів" ще не доводилось зустрічати.
But yesterday, after a heavy downpour, I caught sight of this beetle, or rather a "megabug", probably the size of a matchbox. Such big "monsters" have never met before.
Одразу роблю гостю фотосесію і біжу вивчати, що то за звір такий. І гугл видає мені назву Dytiscus (плавунець), це хижий жук, який має декілька підвидів, але всі вони відносяться до водних видів.
I immediately make a photo session for the guest and run to learn what kind of beast it is. And google gives me the name Dytiscus (swimmer), this is a predatory beetle that has several subspecies, but all of them belong to aquatic species.
Як? Звідки? Що робить на ділянці водний жук, коли до найближчого озера 5 км? Загадка. Невже впав з неба з дощем? Дивина, та й годі...
