Ahoy! This past weekend, on Sunday July 17th, the monthly Community Day took place in Pokémon GO. Featuring Starly, the Starling Pokémon. In this post I'll have a bit of a recap of the Community Day for me.
Shiny Starly was released into the game with this Community Day. That was personally the most exciting thing for this Community Day. Although I suppose the bonus was 3x Catch XP which was great. But I kinda derped and didn't really make as much use of that 😅 A bit more on that soon.
Staraptor was able to learn the Fast Attack "Gust" when evolving Staravia into Staraptor during the Community Day, or up to 5 hours after the event. Not a bad move, but Staraptor does not reach that high CP. It caps out at 2825 CP at level 40. Regardless of its low CP, it does have a quite high Attack stat. So it may still be able to deal good damage when you want to use Flying-type Pokémon against Gyms/Raids.
Let's start with my Starly stats before the Community Day. The Candy and Pokédex catches that I had.
It seems before the event I already had enough XL Candy from Starly to potentially level one to level 50, but that's extreme low priority xD It's just a quite common spawn so I've already caught quite a bit of them before as you can see from my Pokédex stats. I also purified it 56 times, because it's one of those 1,000 Stardust per Purify Pokémon that are the best to work on the Purify Medal.
You can see I also included my Scientist Medal for evolving Pokémon. That's because I had the genius idea to walk around with friends and use my gotcha to help with the catches while I would evolve them for extra XP! Because on top of the 3x Catch XP, there was also a double Catch Candy and Candy XL bonus.
That means 6 Candy per Starly, paired with a Normal- or Flying-type Mega at Mega Level 3 that means 8 Candy per catch. Every 3 catches that was 24 Candy, and that's exactly what you need to evolve 1 Starly. It requires 25 Candy to evolve, but you always get one back. Since I had enough Candy to initiate the evolve I would always get enough candy per 3 catches. So I thought it was a genius idea to just evolve them while my gotcha attempted to catch them. And I could sometimes focus on other things in between as well like sending some gifts to friends etc.
But euhm, that was quite a bad idea 😅 If I really wanted to evolve a lot of them to use the Candy, I should've done that AFTER the Community Day. And just focused on the catches myself, because it's quite decent to throw Excellent throws on a Starly. Even with my Mega providing 100 extra XP per catch, and that becoming 300 thanks to the 3x Catch XP bonus, it resulted in way less exp than if I had caught a lot of them with Excellent throws. Especially if I still did those evolves after the event.
Like usual I met up with a few friends at the start of the event and then we walked around together. We sometimes ran into some other people to have a bit of a chat as well. After the event one other person came to a part in the city centre where we were to join us for a Moltres Raid. He mentioned his exp gain and that was quite a lot higher than mine (he did have Lucky Eggs active the whole event). That's when I definitely realised the mistake I made for not catching them myself and waiting to do the evolutions after 😅 Perhaps it was the heat, but oh well. I suppose next time on 3x Catch XP if it's quite decent to throw Excellent on I will make sure to do that and possibly do evolutions after!
Speaking of evolutions. In my stats before the Community Day, you could've seen I had Lucky Starly already. Buuuut turns out I never actually evolved it. No idea why, I guess I just always kept forgetting about it. So after the Community Day, I looked for that Lucky Starly I still had in my storage and evolved it for Lucky Staravia and Lucky Staraptor.
Here is a screenshot of the Shiny Starly I caught. I managed to get 17 Shiny Starly throughout the Community Day. The weather outside was really good, warm. So we had sunny weather in-game which meant no weather-boosted Starly. A much lower chance to encounter 3* or even 4* because of that, and as you can see from my filter none of the Shiny Starly had that appraisal.
It was possible to do 3 Lucky Trades until 5 hours after the event. Another friend with no 3* or better for Shiny Starly wanted to trade some to see if we could get lucky. Unfortunately we didn't. They didn't become Lucky, and the best one I got was still 2*.
So I guess it's time to evolve a 2-star Shiny Starly then to get Shiny Staravia and Shiny Staraptor in my Pokédex. Maybe one day I'll run into a 3-star one in the wild as Starly still spawn quite regularly. Here is the Shiny Starly I decided to evolve and it as Shiny Staraptor.
So let's get to those stats after the Community Day.
The Candy before is a bit lower than at the start, obviously because of the evolving. But my XL Candy went from 345 to 820, so that's 475 XL Candy from the catches. I went from 635 Starly caught to 1049 Starly caught, so I caught 414 Starly during the 3-hour Community Day event. Looking at the Scientist Medal, before I had 3,544 Evolves and now after the event I have 3,687. Which means I evolved 143 Pokémon during the Community Day. Perhaps that is about 170,000 XP. It's 1,000 XP per evolve, but I had a Lucky Egg for the first 25-30 minutes for Friendship Level ups. Yeah, if I spent my time catching them myself and doing the evolves after the Community Day it would've definitely been a lot more experience! 😅 Oh well, I gotta keep in mind next time the Community Day has 3x Catch XP and it's actually with a Pokémon that I can decently throw Excellents on.
After the Community Day some of us sat down for a drink and chill a little bit together. Then we headed home. In the evening one friend and I went for a walk again. During that walk I encountered a Shiny Treecko!!
This was pretty awesome as I have almost never encountered Treecko Shiny due to missing its Community Day back in the days.
How did the Community Day go for you?
