Andrea begins a new stage, she has been a very versatile girl since she was a child, she has been in a dance school, then she was in cuatro classes (musical instrument) and later in keyboard, from my personal opinion she has been an artist but she had never been interested in any kind of sport as an extracurricular activity, the sport had been limited to the hours of physical education at school.

A few weeks ago she started telling me that she wanted to play basketball, that in PE classes she played with her classmates and that she thought it was a fun sport. At that moment I started looking for a school where she could practice this sport, because so far I had no idea, since the sport at home had focused on baseball, which my son Andres plays.

Andrea comienza una nueva etapa, ella ha sido una niña muy versátil pues desde pequeña ha estado en una escuela de danza, luego estuvo en clases de cuatro. (Instrumento musical) y posteriormente en teclado, desde mi opinión personal ella ha sido una artista pero nunca le había interesado ningún tipo de deporte como actividad extracurricular, el deporte se había limitado a las horas de educación física en el colegio.

Hace unas semanas empezó a decirme que quería practicar baloncesto, que en las clases de educación física jugaba con sus compañeras y le parecía un deporte divertido. En ese momento comenzó la búsqueda de una escuela que pudiera practicar ese deporte, pues hasta el momento no tenía ni idea, pues el deporte en casa se había enfocado en el béisbol que práctica mi hijo Andrés.

She herself came with the information, because she met with a schoolmate who practices this sport and gave her all the necessary information such as location, schedules, cost. So this weekend we went to talk to the person in charge of the basketball school, which by the way works in the same municipality where we live but we did not know.

It turns out that they do have a category of my daughter’s age, only girls born in 2012 so the coach thought it was great to have a new member although I clarified that Andrea has never practiced this sport or any other, but he said it was better because this way she could start from scratch learning little by little.

Ella misma llegó con la información, pues se encontró con una compañera de la escuela que práctica este deporte y le dio toda la información necesaria como lo es la ubicación, horarios, costo. Así que este fin de semana fuimos a conversar con el encargado de la escuela de baloncesto que por cierto funciona en el mismo municipio donde vivimos pero que no conocíamos.

Resulta que si tienen una categoría de la edad de mi hija, solo niñas nacidas en el 2012, así que el entrenador le pareció muy bien tener una nueva integrante aunque le aclaré que Andrea nunca ha practicado este deporte ni ningún otro, pero dijo que mejor, porque así empezaba desde cero aprendiendo poco a poco.

Yesterday we went to their first training session, which only lasts an hour, but in that time they have no rest other than to drink water and get back on the court. The first thing they did was to warm up and do stretching exercises and then coordination and others.

Andrea was trying to do everything according to the coach’s explanations and watching how the other kids did it. I may not have liked this part very much because no one personally explained the language or the terms used to call out each step for her to learn, and she was treated like the others who already had time and knew what they had to do.

Ayer fuimos a su primer entrenamiento que solo tiene una duración de una hora, pero en ese tiempo no tienen ningún descanso mayor a tomar agua y regresar a la cancha. Lo primero que hicieron fue calentar y hacer ejercicios de estiramiento para luego hacer ejercicios de coordinación y otros.

Andrea trató de hacer todo según las explicaciones del entrenador y observando como lo hacían los demás niños. Esta parte puede que no me haya gustado mucho pues nadie le explicó personalmente a ella el lenguaje ni los términos con los que llamaba a cada paso, para que ella fuera aprendiendo sino que la trataron como a los demás que ya tienen tiempo y sabían lo que tenían que hacer.

Well, Andrea did what she could. When we left I asked her what she thought and if she wanted to come back and she said she was tired but she wanted to come back, so I thought it wasn’t as bad as I saw it from the outside so I didn’t comment anything. Let’s wait and see how she does, anyway it was only her first day, if she is willing she can learn very fast and if not at least she tried, the important thing is that I will always be there to support her in whatever she wants to do.

Bueno, Andrea hizo lo que pudo. Al salir, le pregunté que le había parecido y si quería volver y me dijo que estaba cansada pero que si quería volver, entonces pensé que no fue tan malo como yo lo vi desde afuera por lo que no le comenté nada. Vamos a esperar que tal le va, de todas maneras solo fue su primer día, si le pone ganas puede que aprenda muy rápido y si no pues al menos lo intento, lo importante es que siempre voy a estar para apoyarla en lo que quiera hacer.
