Hace algunos años, cada 02 de Abril el hospital de especialidades en la ciudad donde vivimos, conmemora este día, invitando a algunas familias con niños, adolescentes o adultos autistas. Van 2 años consecutivos en el que hemos sido invitados y este evento es organizado por el área de Rehabilitación, en especial por los terapeutas ocupacionales.
Este año nos tocó ir a Amelie y a mí solas, papá no pudo asistir por su trabajo. Fue muy bonito ver a las autoridades del Hospital en la actividad, como los fisiatras, terapeutas, los de psico rehabilitación, psicología y el director del Hospital a quien por primera vez veo. El director nos dió la noticia de que pronto tendremos nuevamente una neuróloga pediatra, super necesaria en el hospital y la ciudad, para ámbito público. Y la bienvenida estuvo a cargo del mejor terapeuta ocupacional de todos los tiempos, el licenciado Freddy Cedeño, quien es terapeuta de Amelie hace casi 5 años.

Fue muy emocionante y conmovedor ver a niños autistas tan funcionales, cantando, bailando, pintando y hablando. A veces uno se pregunta ¿por qué mi hijo no es así? Pero es que cada uno es diferente y cada uno tiene habilidades diferentes. También hubieron padres que pasaron a contar sus testimonios y a alzar la voz por nuestros pequeños, llamando a aplicar la verdadera inclusión, no solo aquella que es de palabras, si no la que se demuestra con hechos. Por otra parte Amelie estuvo bastante tranquila, solo ya al final del evento que no quiso fotografías, pues ella solo quería ir a casa.
A todos los niños que participaron les dieron una medilla y a todos los que asistieron un reconocimiento. Siendo este un evento muy bonito y de valor para aquellos que decidimos abrazar el Autismo con amor.

A few years ago, every April 2nd, the specialty hospital in the city where we live commemorates this day by inviting some families with children, teenagers, or adults with autism. We’ve been invited for two consecutive years now, and the event is organized by the Rehabilitation department, especially by the occupational therapists.
This year, it was just Amelie and me attending alone, since dad couldn’t come due to work. It was very nice to see the hospital authorities at the event, such as the physiatrists, therapists, psycho-rehabilitation staff, psychologists, and the hospital director, whom I met for the first time. The director shared the news that we’ll soon have a pediatric neurologist again, which is greatly needed at the hospital and in the city, especially in the public sector. The welcome speech was given by the greatest occupational therapist of all time, Mr. Freddy Cedeño, who has been Amelie’s therapist for almost five years.
It was very emotional and touching to see autistic children so functional—singing, dancing, painting, and talking. Sometimes you ask yourself, “Why isn’t my child like that?” But the truth is that each one is different and has their own unique abilities. Some parents also came forward to share their stories and raise their voices for our little ones, calling for real inclusion—not just words, but actions that prove it. On the other hand, Amelie was quite calm throughout the event, although at the end she didn’t want to take photos—she just wanted to go home.
All the children who participated received a medal, and everyone who attended received a certificate of recognition. It was a beautiful and meaningful event for those of us who have chosen to embrace autism with love.
