Woooow, sigh. I really wasn't sure whether to make a post about this but I thought maybe there are mothers or fathers going through a situation just as desperate, stressful, distressing and all the synonyms of those words because yes, that's how atopic dermatitis is and maybe I can help in some way although I really hope and wish that no baby, child, adult, parent or mother goes through a situation like this because until you live it you don't know how strong it is, I even cry a little now seeing the before and after pictures of my baby and I'm happy that we got through it.

Empiezo: Olivia desde el primer mes de vida, empezó a presentar brote en sus mejillas, y como no era muy fuerte y estábamos en invierno pensamos que se había irritado por el frío, sin embargo más tarde iríamos a consulta con su pediatra y cada vez que teníamos consulta la doctora nos recomendaba algo diferente, primero fue cambiar el jabón de ropa, luego cambiar de crema y shampoo, también pensó que Olivia podía tener hongos así que envío clotrimazol pero todo esto no ayudó, más tarde sospechó de alergia a la proteína de la leche de vaca, por lo que cambió su fórmula infantil 2 veces y recomendó una consulta con un dermatólogo.
I begin: Olivia since the first month of life, began to present outbreak in her cheeks, and as it was not very strong and we were in winter we thought that she had been irritated by the cold, however later we would go to consultation with her pediatrician and every time we had consultation the doctor recommended us something different, First she changed the laundry soap, then she changed the cream and shampoo, she also thought that Olivia could have fungus so she sent clotrimazole but all this did not help, later she suspected cow's milk protein allergy, so she changed her infant formula 2 times and recommended a consultation with a dermatologist.
El primer dermatólogo envío un tratamiento ineficiente, y digo primero porque visitamos varios doctores antes de encontrar el que de verdad nos ayudó. Este doctor envío como tratamiento un polvo secante blanco para su piel, una emulsión de baño, un antihistamínico y un jarabe de calcio. Lo único que fue bueno aquí es el antihistamínico oral porque le ayudaba con la picazón aunque no del todo porque sus heridas eran fuertes.
The first dermatologist sent an ineffective treatment, and I say first because we visited several doctors before we found the one that really helped us. This doctor sent as treatment a white blotting powder for her skin, a bath emulsion, an antihistamine and a calcium syrup. The only thing that was good here is the oral antihistamine because it helped with the itching but not completely because his wounds were bad.

Más tarde visitamos un alergologo, quien debo decir que siguió un procedimiento totalmente innecesario pues nos remitió al hospital donde además de agarrar un virus allí, maltrataron a mi bebé porque quizá no tenían mucha experiencia para sacar sangre a un bebé y tuvieron que intentar muchas veces hasta que finalmente tenían la sangre y digo innecesario porque en este hospital solo analizaron 2 alérgenos cuando luego esta misma doctora envío a realizar un panel pediátrico de 27 alérgenos y con un solo intento ya tenían la sangre de mi bebé.
Later we visited an allergist, who I must say followed a totally unnecessary procedure because he referred us to the hospital where in addition to catching a virus there, they mistreated my baby because perhaps they did not have much experience to draw blood from a baby and had to try many times until they finally had the blood and I say unnecessary because in this hospital they only tested 2 allergens when later this same doctor sent to perform a pediatric panel of 27 allergens and with only one attempt they already had my baby's blood.
En el hospital debo confesar que si nos ayudaron un poco, pues con unas cremas que le enviaron allí, la piel de mi bebé mejoró en 3 días (vitella ictamo forte y una crema hidratante fría), pero luego de tomar el virus volvió a empeorar y ya estás cremas no hacían nada. Decidimos visitar otro dermatólogo, quien envío como tratamiento violeta genciana (por 3 días) para secar las heridas aunque la verdad a mi bebé no le ayudó a secar porque ella se rascaba mucho, sin embargo continuamos con el tratamiento que era aplicar antibiótico más tarde en las heridas (7 días ) y luego de aplicar esto un emoliente (emotopic bacteria control) en todo el cuerpo (incluyendo el cuero cabelludo porque incluso ahí mi bebé tenía dermatitis) y en la cara , ah y también recomendó seguir con el antihistamínico oral (fenistil) y aunque los primeros días no veíamos mejoría, a partir del 7mo día fue que empezamos a verlo un poco y entonces decidimos visitar otro dermatólogo que envío otro tratamiento que no voy a nombrar porque no lo seguimos pues era un poco fuerte (entre ellos elidel crema), decidimos darle tiempo a este tratamiento que nombré antes y así fue como mi bebé mejoró.
At the hospital I must confess that they did help us a little, because with some creams that they sent there, my baby's skin improved in 3 days (vitella ictamo forte and a cold moisturizing cream), but after taking the virus it got worse again and these creams did nothing. We decided to visit another dermatologist, who sent as a treatment gentian violet (for 3 days) to dry the wounds although the truth is that it did not help my baby to dry because she was scratching a lot, however we continued with the treatment which was to apply antibiotic later on the wounds (7 days) and after applying this an emollient (emotopic bacteria control) on the whole body (including the scalp because even there my baby had dermatitis) and on the face, He also recommended to continue with the oral antihistamine (fenistil) and although the first days we did not see any improvement, after the 7th day we started to see some improvement and then we decided to visit another dermatologist who sent another treatment that I will not name because we did not follow it because it was a little strong (among them elidel cream), we decided to give time to this treatment that I mentioned before and that is how my baby got better.

Pero todavía teníamos que visitar al alergólogo de nuevo quien finalmente esta vez si decidió enviar a hacer la prueba de 27 alérgenos y envío otro tratamiento para terminar finalmente de sanar las heridas de sus cachetes pues como vieron en las fotos eran tan fuertes estas heridas que tardaron mucho en sanar por lo que la alergólogo envío otro antibiótico (mupirox), advantan crema, seguir con el fenistil oral y recomendó otro emoliente pero dijo que si el que estábamos usando estaba funcionando con mi bebé pues que siguieramos con este (emotopic bacteria control) y eso estamos haciendo, también recomendó llevar a la basura la emulsión de baño pues estos son hechos a veces con maní y Olivia podía ser alérgica a esto por lo que recomendó usar el jabón de la Roche Posay que aunque la crema no fue efectiva el jabón si está siendo bueno para Olivia, ah olvidé nombrarles antes que todo el tiempo nos recomendaron bañarla con agua de almidón de papa pero también tuvimos que dejar de hacerlo porque la alergólogo dijo que luego Olivia podía desarrollar alergia a la papa y realmente no ayudó, y así fue como finalmente siguiendo todas estas recomendaciones y con los dos tratamientos nombrados anteriormente es que finalmente todo la piel de mi bebé sanó.
But we still had to visit the allergist again who finally this time decided to send the 27 allergen test and sent another treatment to finally finish healing the wounds on her cheeks because as you saw in the pictures these wounds were so strong that they took a long time to heal so the allergist sent another antibiotic (mupirox), advantan cream, continue with the oral fenistil and recommended another emollient but said that if the one we were using was working with my baby then we should continue with this one (emotopic bacteria control) and that's what we are doing, she also recommended to take the bath emulsion to the trash as these are sometimes made with peanuts and Olivia could be allergic to this so she recommended to use the Roche Posay soap that although the cream was not effective the soap is being good for Olivia, Oh I forgot to mention before that we were recommended all the time to bathe her with potato starch water but we also had to stop doing it because the allergist said that Olivia could develop a potato allergy and it really didn't help, and that's how finally following all these recommendations and with the two treatments mentioned above is how finally all my baby's skin healed.
Las fotos solo muestran una parte de lo que fue toda esta horrible etapa porque realmente allí no pueden ver cómo mi bebé se rascaba la piel hasta sacarse sangre y a mí me rompía el corazón y deseaba ser yo la que pasara por todo esto y no ella, además de que por está razón ella no dormía porque se despertaba rascándose y llorando y por supuesto mamá tampoco podía dormir, fueron varias noches así donde ambas terminamos cansadas por dormir tan poco yo por lograr calmar a mi bebé e intentar que se rascara lo menos posible pues eso no ayudaba a secar sus heridas y ella por la picazon, incluso un día pensé en ponerle medias en sus manos pero fue imposible porque ella se las metía a la boca y esto no es bueno, pero ahora ella está bien, su piel está sana, ya no se rasca, mamá se siente más descansada, vencimos esta etapa, y aunque queda el miedo de volver a recaer, solo intentamos pensar en positivo, así que les recomiendo nunca se queden con una sola opción, busquen hasta 2 y 3, incluso yo pensaba pedir una cita con un doctor en Venezuela o Colombia porque pensé que quizá los doctores polacos no eran buenos (y lo siento por pensar pero la situación era tan desesperante y como padre buscas hacer lo que sea para que tú hijo este bien).
The pictures only show a part of what this whole horrible stage was like because you can't really see how my baby was scratching her skin until she drew blood and it broke my heart and I wished I was the one going through all this and not her, Besides, for this reason she didn't sleep because she woke up scratching and crying and of course mom couldn't sleep either, there were several nights like that where we both ended up tired because of the little sleep, me because I was trying to calm my baby down and try to make her scratch as little as possible because it didn't help to dry her wounds and her because of the itching, one day I even thought about putting socks on her hands but it was impossible because she put them in her mouth and this is not good, but now she is fine, her skin is healthy, she doesn't scratch anymore, mom feels more rested, we overcame this stage, and although there is still the fear of relapsing, we just try to think positive, so I recommend you never stay with only one option, look for 2 and 3, even I was thinking of making an appointment with a doctor in Venezuela or Colombia because I thought that maybe the Polish doctors were not good (and I am sorry for thinking but the situation was so desperate and as a parent you try to do whatever it takes for your child to be well).
Esperamos la siguiente visita con alergólogo para ver cómo actuar con los resultados de alérgenos pues según estos Olivia es alérgica al maní y a la clara de huevo y aunque no los ha consumido pronto va a empezar la alimentación complementaría y debemos tener cuidado, ah y no es alérgica a la leche pero debemos preguntar si puede volver a tomar una leche de fórmula normal o necesita seguir con la fórmula de solo aminoácidos.
We are waiting for the next visit with the allergist to see how to act with the allergen results because according to them Olivia is allergic to peanuts and egg whites and although she has not consumed them soon she will start supplemental feeding and we must be careful, oh and she is not allergic to milk but we must ask if she can go back to normal formula milk or she needs to continue with the amino acid only formula.
