Hoy me he entusiasmado para participar en el Daily Challenge VidadeMamá y VidadePapá de la comunidad Motherhood, quienes cada semana nos invitan a escribir sobre diversos temas dirigidos a la vida de mamá y papá. Se trata de una muy variada e interesante iniciativa semanal y si quieres conocer los detalles y condiciones para participar en esta convocatoria, solo visita esta publicación.

Una de las preguntas que me llamo mucho la atención fue: Si pudieras escoger la carrera universitaria de tu hijo ¿cuál seria?. Me gusto esta pregunta, ya que vivimos una realidad bastante atípica y que se quiera o no, está cambiando la forma de enfrentar nuestro día a día, lo que incluye los estudios y aun más, el futuro de nuestras próximas generaciones.

One of the questions that caught my attention was: If you could choose your child's university career, which one would it be? I liked this question, since we live in a very atypical reality that, whether we like it or not, is changing the way we face our daily lives, including our studies and even more, the future of our next generations.

¿Es Posible Graduarse hoy en Venezuela?

Actualmente en Venezuela, nos hemos visto seriamente afectados por una desastrosa y grave crisis institucional que comenzando desde las esferas del gobierno, ha generado una escalada de degradación y ruina en muchos ámbitos de nuestra sociedad. Es muy triste admitirlo, pero nuestro país ha retrocedido en casi todos sus espacios, en estos tiempos en que el mundo avanza a pasos agigantados. Uno de los sectores más afectados por esta crisis tan severa, ha sido el área educativa, donde es más que evidente la baja calidad de la educación pública, aunado a los estragos que ha ocasionado la pandemia.

No pienso hacer un análisis de esta situación nacional que nos afecta a todos y solo voy a colocar mi opinión desde mi experiencia personal. Tengo un hijo en edad universitaria y otra que acaba de iniciar su 1er año educación media, sin siquiera poder haber asistido una sola vez a clases. Sobre eso pensaba en estos días, en cuál sería el recuerdo que tendría mi hija de su primer año en educación media y eso me entristeció un poco. En una ocasión, la llevé conmigo a entregar unas de las tareas que les envían por teléfono, para que conociera su liceo por lo menos.

En relación al área universitaria y que es con lo que se relaciona la pregunta del challenge, es tan dantesco lo que ocurre, al menos en nuestro estado. Para muestra, solo les dejaré algunos links con información de lo que sucede en el sistema educativo universitario en el Estado Monagas:

Is it Possible to Graduate in Venezuela Today?

Currently in Venezuela, we have been seriously affected by a disastrous and serious institutional crisis that starting from the government spheres, has generated an escalation of degradation and ruin in many areas of our society. It is very sad to admit it, but our country has regressed in almost all areas, in these times in which the world is advancing by leaps and bounds. One of the sectors most affected by this severe crisis has been the educational area, where the low quality of public education is more than evident, together with the ravages caused by the pandemic.

I am not going to make an analysis of this national situation that affects us all and I am only going to give my opinion from my personal experience. I have a college-age son and a daughter who has just started her first year of high school, without even being able to attend classes once. I was thinking about that these days, what would be my daughter's memory of her first year of high school and that made me a little sad. On one occasion, I took her with me to hand in some of the homework that they send them by phone, so that she could at least get to know her high school.

In relation to the university area, which is what the question of the challenge relates to, what is happening, at least in our state, is so dantesque. As a sample, I will only leave you some links with information about what is happening in the university education system in the State of Monagas:

Opciones Universitarias para Nuestros Jovenes

Mi hijo se logró inscribir en la Universidad de Oriente (UDO Monagas) para estudiar Tecnología de los Alimentos, una carrera que a él particularmente le gusto y que a mí me parece muy interesante, por las amplias posibilidades que le puede brindar en el área laboral. Con las nuevas tendencias tecnológicas aplicadas a los alimentos, del cuidado de la salud y el bienestar personal, es claro que existen muchas posibilidades de desarrollar una muy buena carrera laboral o incluso, de emprendimiento con esta carrera universitaria. Lamentablemente, con la llegada de la pandemia y la situación caótica y casi de abandono de estos espacios para la educación universitaria, esta quedo como en un segundo plano. Actualmente se está enfocando en aprender sobre programación, diseño web y desarrollo de aplicaciones, áreas de formación muy solicitadas y que sin lugar a dudas, son de las más buscadas y las mejores pagadas actualmente y en el futuro. De hecho, es mi principal recomendación que doy a los jóvenes cuando tengo oportunidad, además de las de ingeniería y cualquier otra que se enfoque al campo de las tecnologías y la informática.

En cuanto a las carreras que no recomendaría a mis hijos y a cualquier joven que desee formarse a nivel universitario, están las áreas de educación, contaduría y administración. Ahora bien, esto tiene que ver mucho con la vocación y la decisión personal de cada joven. Aunque la carrera en educación es una de las más hermosas e importantes que se podrían estudiar, pienso que, especialmente en mi país, es prácticamente una perdida de tiempo por la decadencia en esta área. En todo caso, cada quien puede tomar su propia decisión en cuanto a que estudiar y si mis hijos decidieran estudiar alguna de estas carreras, seguro estoy que les brindaré mi apoyo y respaldo para que logren esa ansiada meta.

University Options for Our Youth

My son was able to enroll in the Universidad de Oriente (UDO Monagas) to study Food Technology, a career that he particularly liked and that I find very interesting, because of the wide possibilities it can offer in the labor area. With the new technological trends applied to food, health care and personal welfare, it is clear that there are many possibilities to develop a very good career or even entrepreneurship with this university career. Unfortunately, with the arrival of the pandemic and the chaotic situation and almost abandonment of these spaces for university education, this was left in the background. Currently it is focusing on learning about programming, web design and application development, areas of training in high demand and which are undoubtedly the most sought after and the best paid currently and in the future. In fact, it is my main recommendation that I give to young people when I have the opportunity, in addition to engineering and any other that focuses on the field of technology and computer science.

As for the careers that I would not recommend to my children and to any young person who wishes to be educated at the university level, there are the areas of education, accounting and administration. However, this has a lot to do with the vocation and personal decision of each young person. Although education is one of the most beautiful and important careers that could be studied, I think that, especially in my country, it is practically a waste of time due to the decadence in this area. In any case, everyone can make their own decision as to what to study and if my children decide to study any of these careers, I am sure that I will give them my support and backing so that they can achieve their desired goal.

Espero que la situación del país cambie por completo y podamos volver a un camino de estabilidad y buen funcionamiento de todas nuestras instituciones. Lamento mucho que nuestros jóvenes se estén quedando sin oportunidades de estudios universitarios de calidad y aun más, que se vean forzados a salir del país para aspirar a un futuro más venturoso. Si llegasen a tener la posibilidad, estoy seguro de que nuestros jóvenes encontraran más y mejores oportunidades de formarse a nivel universitario fuera de país y solo deseo que eso cambie lo más pronto posible.

I hope that the situation in the country will change completely and we can return to a path of stability and good functioning of all our institutions. I am very sorry that our young people are running out of opportunities for quality university studies and even more, that they are forced to leave the country to aspire to a better future. If they were to have the possibility, I am sure that our young people would find more and better opportunities for university education outside the country and I only wish that this would change as soon as possible.
