Cierto día, un pequeño niño miraba a su abuelo escribir una carta. Mientras lo observaba con detenimiento y mucha curiosidad, le pregunto:
"Abuelo, estás escribiendo una historia de nosotros? ¿O quizá es una historia sobre mí?
El anciano paró de escribir un momento, miró con ternura a su nieto y le respondió:
"Si, es cierto. Estoy escribiendo sobre ti. Pero lo mas importante no son las palabras que escribo, sino el lápiz que estoy utilizando. Yo quisiera que tú fueras como este lápiz cuando crezcas.
El niño miro al lápiz con mucha intriga y luego de un momento, notó que no había nada especial en él.
"¡Pero si es un lápiz común y corriente como todos los demás!".
"Todo depende de la manera en la que mires las cosas", contesto su abuelo.
"En este lápiz existen cinco cualidades que tú también deberias poseer y de hacerlo, podrás tener una vida plena, feliz y te convertirás en una persona que lleve paz a los demás.
La primera es que puedes hacer grandes cosas pero siempre debes recordar que existe una mano que guía tus pasos. A esta mano nosotros la entendemos como DIOS y él siempre te guiará conforme a su voluntad.
La segunda es que, debes de vez en cuando, es necesario dejar de escribir para poder usar un sacapuntas. Esto hace que el lápiz sufra un poco, pero que al final pueda ser usado de mejor manera. Esto significa que deberás ser capaz de soportar los dolores de la vida, ya que estos te harán aprender a ser mejor persona.
Lo tercero es que el lápiz siempre nos permite usar una goma para borrar aquello que hicimos mal, Corregir algo que hicimos no significa algo malo, significa que sabemos reconocer nuestros errores y que tenemos la capacidad de resarcirlos.
La cuarta cualidad del lápiz es que siempre deja una marca, por lo que debes comprender que todo lo que hagas, realices o digas dejará una huella y que siempre deberás hacerte responsable por ello. Nunca dejes de ser consciente de cada acción.
Por ultimo la verdadera importancia del lápiz no esta en la madera o el diseño de este, sino en el grafito que hay dentro. Cuida siempre lo que sucede en tu interior: tus pensamientos, tus sentimientos, tus deseos y tu espíritu. Fortalece tus ideales y tus valores, ya que eso es lo más valioso y en lo que de verdad vale la pena centrar tu atención".

Esta entrañable historia del escritor Paulo Cohelo nos permite entender, de una manera mucho más sencilla, cómo es que los adultos influimos en la vida de los mas pequeños y lo importante que es formarlos basados en principios, valores y mucho amor. De ti depende, en gran manera , que tus hijos crezcan sabiendo lo valiosos que son, lo mucho que los amas y que no importa lo que los demás piensen o digan de ellos, no hay nada más significativo que lo que llevan por dentro. Inculcándoles amor por si mismo y por lo demás, así como el respecto y la dignidad, habremos sembrado una semilla para que, en un futuro puedan germinar como personas de bien.
