Hoy no es un día cualquiera. Se juntan las lágrimas de felicidad con el nudo en la garganta de quien sabe el camino recorrido. Mi hijo mayor, con apenas 22 añitos, ha recibo su título de Licenciado en Comunicación Social, ¡y Cum Laude! Pero este día va más allá de un diploma; ha sido un camino entrelazado con esfuerzo, resiliencia, sueños colectivos y la poderosa fuerza de la familia.

Quiero compartir con ustedes, querida comunidad, estas emociones que nos embriagan, porque en cada historia veo el reflejo de la lucha y la belleza de criar hijos que persiguen sus metas.

Un Legado de Perseverancia

Ver a mi hijo con su toga y birrete no es solo la imagen de un logro académico; es la materialización de años de madrugadas, de cafés trasnochados, de proyectos entregados al amanecer y de esa inquietud única que sienten los jóvenes por encontrar su voz. Pasó de ser un adolescente a un profesional crítico, sensible y con las herramientas para narrar el mundo.

La educación universitaria, más que un escalón laboral, es un sendero que forja carácter. Como madres, sabemos que nuestro rol cambia; de guías constantes pasamos a ser faros en la distancia, confiando en que les hemos dado las bases para navegar. Hoy, esa confianza se ve recompensada, este título es un testimonio de su esfuerzo, pero también del apoyo incondicional que, como familia, hemos tejido a su alrededor.

Historias que Conmueven

La magia de este día se multiplicó en historias y ejemplos de sus compañeros. Una de ellas, proveniente de Caicara del Orinoco, en Venezuela, un lugar de acceso tan remoto que solo se llega en canoa.

Imaginen la valentía de esta joven, dejando atrás su hogar durante estos 5 años, sostenida solo por su firme propósito y el calor de sus amigos. Hoy, no solo se graduó: ¡fue el Primer Índice Académico de su promoción!

Ella En su discurso, con una emoción que me conmovió profundamente, miró a sus padres y dijo: "Papás, ¡lo logramos!". Justo allí, en ese momento, resonó el sacrificio de una familia entera, la comunidad que la acogió y el triunfo de la determinación sobre la distancia.

Y luego está la novia de mi hijo, un alma de una fortaleza sobrehumana. El año pasado perdió a su madre en la lucha contra el cáncer, una batalla que fue fulminante y los tomó a todos por sorpresa. En medio de ese dolor ella no se dejó vencer. Continuó con sus estudios, trabajando, estudiando y a cargo de su hermano que solo tiene 14 años, cargando un peso emocional inmenso.

Hoy, al abrazarla, lo hice como si fuera una hija de corazón, para decirle lo orgullosa que estoy de su resiliencia, de su coraje para convertir el dolor en propósito. Estas historias nos recuerdan que el éxito universitario también se mide en la capacidad de levantarse con determinación ante la presión.

Retomemos el verdadero valor de la Universidad

Siempre hay quien opina que un título universitario no garantiza el éxito. Y es cierto, el mercado laboral es dinámico y demandante. Pero yo les digo a mis hijos, y hoy lo reafirmo, que el valor de esta etapa es invaluable.

La universidad les brinda una visión amplia del mundo, les enseña a convivir con la diversidad, a debatir con fundamento y a construir una red fraterna que se convierte en una segunda familia.

Hoy en ese auditorio, todas las familias celebramos un gran paso para todos esos jóvenes que, con muchísimo esfuerzo, en un país que atraviesa tantas situaciones que te desestabilizan, han decidido escribir su primer gran capítulo adulto.

Como madre, me invadieron muchos sentimientos: alivio, alegría, nostalgia y una fértil esperanza por el futuro que construirán. Este día es un recordatorio de que, a pesar de las dificultades, la dedicación y el apoyo familiar son el combustible para los sueños más altos.

My eldest son, at just 22 years old, has received his degree in Social Communication—and Cum Laude! But this day is more than just a diploma; it has been a journey intertwined with effort, resilience, shared dreams, and the powerful strength of family.

I want to share these overwhelming emotions with you, dear community, because in every story I see the reflection of the struggle and the beauty of raising children who pursue their goals.

A Legacy of Perseverance

Seeing my son in his cap and gown isn't just the image of an academic achievement; it's the culmination of years of early mornings, late coffees, projects submitted at dawn, and that unique yearning young people feel to find their voice. He went from being a teenager to a critical, sensitive professional, equipped with the tools to tell the world's story.

University education, more than a career stepping stone, is a path that forges character. As mothers, we know our role changes; from constant guides, we become beacons in the distance, trusting that we've given them the foundation to navigate. Today, that trust is rewarded; this degree is a testament to his effort, but also to the unconditional support we, as a family, have built around him.

Stories That Move You

The magic of this day was amplified by the stories and examples shared by her classmates. One of them came from Caicara del Orinoco, Venezuela, a place so remote it can only be reached by canoe.

Imagine the courage of this young woman, leaving her home behind for these five years, sustained only by her unwavering determination and the warmth of her friends. Today, she not only graduated: she achieved the highest academic standing in her class!

In her speech, with an emotion that deeply moved me, she looked at her parents and said, "Mom and Dad, we did it!". Right there, in that moment, resonated the sacrifice of an entire family, the community that welcomed her, and the triumph of determination over distance.

And then there's my son's girlfriend, a soul of superhuman strength. Last year, she lost her mother to cancer, a battle that was swift and took them all by surprise. In the midst of that pain, she refused to be defeated. She continued her studies, working, studying, and taking care of her 14-year-old brother, carrying an immense emotional burden.

Today, when I hugged her, I did so as if she were a daughter in my heart, to tell her how proud I am of her resilience, of her courage to transform pain into purpose. These stories remind us that academic success is also measured by the ability to rise with determination in the face of pressure.

Let's reclaim the true value of university

There are always those who say that a university degree doesn't guarantee success. And it's true, the job market is dynamic and demanding. But I tell my children, and I reaffirm it today, that the value of this stage of their lives is invaluable.

University gives them a broad view of the world, teaches them to live with diversity, to debate with sound reasoning, and to build a close-knit network that becomes a second family.

Today, in this auditorium, all the families celebrate a great step for all these young people who, with tremendous effort, in a country experiencing so many destabilizing situations, have decided to write their first great chapter of adulthood.

As a mother, I was overwhelmed with emotions: relief, joy, nostalgia, and a profound hope for the future they will build together. This day serves as a reminder that, despite the challenges, dedication and family support are the fuel for even the greatest dreams.
