This was so hard to come up with, so so hard but I still wanted to do it, joining the community prompts for a while now has made me see things in a different light.
This time we were asked to write a letter from our inner kid to our kid, how does one without a kid do this I wondered but they asked us to be creative, so this is my letter to my future teenage daughter.
Dear Louisa
How are you and your studies, ever since you left home for boarding school I have missed you dearly, hope you enjoyed the birthday cake I sent to you, sorry I wasn’t there to celebrate your sweet sixteen with you but I promise you we would throw a grand party when you get back home for the holidays.
Dearest Louisa I know how it feels like to be 16, you feel like you have everything figured out and you are all grown now but my dearest as a friend and mother it’s okay to ask me for help.
My dearest, I know you are currently undergoing puberty and lots of changes come with puberty, don’t ever feel that you are growing too fast or something is wrong with you, no my love, you are just fine and it’s the cycle of life.
These new changes may make you feel insecure most times, you may feel you are getting way bigger than your age and peers and you may get so many advances from the opposite sex, for starters you should be happy that you are growing in the right places, as for your friends they are also growing at their own pace so do not be jealous of their body size or growth pace.
You would get so many advances from the opposite sex but Louisa you will have to make the right decision, most of these men would present themselves as sweet and angelic but their aim is to take advantage of you, be able to discern such men when they come your way and say no and if it is way out of your control I’m always here to fight for you.
Louisa, I need you to be confident in yourself and your abilities, carry yourself with so much grace, do not be timid or shy away from anything as this was what I had to deal with while growing up and it didn’t do me any good instead it made me miss so many opportunities. Are you feeling too small or struggling with self-confidence? Please my love pride yourself in how smart you are and all the valuable things you have to offer to this world.
Louisa don’t get too angry or withdrawn from me as I only want the best for you, I might be overprotective of you or get overly strict sometimes, it doesn’t mean I hate you or I am being wicked, it’s because I want the best for you in the long run, I don’t want you to make the mistakes I made while growing up. Louisa please if you need any advice talk to me and not your friends as I am way older than your friends, I have seen life and I have much more experience than them.
Dearest Louisa nobody makes it in life without facing peer pressure in one way or the other, your peers would come with all their beliefs and lifestyles and this might sort of rub off on you without you knowing, it’s okay to emulate good things but try not to emulate the bad things they come with and never be envious of their lifestyles.
For your dreams and aspirations, I want the best for you, work hard and you will get there, if you fall by the wayside stand up and take daring steps, my darling you are not a quitter so do not quit or settle for less, go for what you want with your head held high and I will be right here rooting for you.
These and more I want to tell you but the best above all is that I love and cherish you, bringing you into this world is the most precious gift life gave to me.
Goodbye, my love, and do take care 😘
Yours lovely mother
Ibbtammy
