Today 8th of March, 2022 marks another day dedicated to every women out their around the globe irrespective of their culture, religion, race, or status to celebrate their social, economic, cultural, and political achievements made or accomplished by women globally and also the great impacts they have made towards the betterment and development of the society and the world at large.
The International Women's Day (IWD) is always been celebrated every year on the 8th of March 2022. Every year, different theme is always selected and it is centered towards addressing issues relating to women in the society and the world at large. This year, the theme is #BreaktheBias which is directed towards gender equality for a better and sustainable tomorrow.
From research I found out that the celebration of International women's day was first celebrated on February 28, 1909 which the United Nations (UN) stated that is was celebrated to honor Socialist Party of America in the garment industry as a result of the strike they went in New York to a protest on working conditions.
In the year 1910, the idea for celebration of international women day was approved by the attendees at the second International Conference of Working Women which happens to be a gathering of women from activist and political organizations in Copenhagen.
In the following year, lots of European countries celebrated the international women day on the 19th of March.
March 8 was later picked and dedicated for the celebration of the international women's day and was aimed towards giving women the right to vote and to fight against gender discrimination and to address the women's anti-war protects and strikes in Russia.
Traditionally, purple along with green and white are the colors considered for the International Women's Day as this colors symbolizes the United Kingdom's Women's social and political union from the early 1900's.
On this special day, I appreciate every women as you are the epitome of love, strength and courage and I am grateful to have you all. Wishing you all Happy International Women's Day.
