Yesterday was a special and different day, I had the pleasure of accompanying my daughter Marcela and all her First Grade classmates to a Windsurfing practice at Playa en Yaque, one of the most famous for practicing this sport. It turns out that the project of all these children is called "Sport as a tourist attraction of the DÃaz Municipality", the municipality where we live and in which many sports disciplines are practiced and the idea is that they can know those options closest to their home to practice any sport.
The teacher is great, creative, fun and risky, with this project she will take us to many places that little by little I will tell you about. So we left the school on a direct bus to Playa El Yaque, which is about 20 minutes away and which in this season has little influx.
The coaches from the Alexis Carache Windsurf School welcomed us and under the shade of the palm trees they gave us an excellent explanation and review of what windsurfing is, the children asked questions and we got ready to go to the sand because the practice would only be on the seashore for security reasons, although we even had help from civil protection.
The instructions from the coaches were excellent, it is a very beautiful sport and one that I particularly loved, you must have great resistance because the wind is very strong on this beach and the sun wears you down a lot, in addition, the equipment is a bit heavy. I was happy seeing Marcela excited to participate because Marcela really isn't attracted to sports even though her father was a professional baseball player and we already took her to karate, she hasn't clicked.
All the children had their opportunity to get on the board and imitate the steps that the trainer performed before and explained, you raise your knees, you get up first with your left foot, you take the rope (halyard) with your hands, you go up the mast of the sail until you reach the handrail (boom) and steer the sail with your arms straight and knees bent. Sounds easy 😂 and Marcela did it great.
After all the children did it, the trainer did a demonstration in the water so that all the children could observe the steps being in the water and how you should look for your balance. They all shouted and with their eyes wide open they watched every movement of the coach fascinated.
We ended up resting from the sun under the palm trees for a while, I felt very lucky to be able to accompany Marcela to this activity since not all the mothers could go and some children felt lonely, there are magical moments and this was one between her and me where alone we were both there and she felt that all my attention was for her. We also took a couple of cute photos for our memory 💞
This is my favorite beach and while we rested we were able to meet Mr. Leo Estredo, brother of the sportsman from Margarita Gollito Estredo who has been 9 times Windsurfing world champion and who is a native of this town and this beach. They also have a windsurfing and kitesurfing school and they invited us for an upcoming practice so this trip was more productive than we expected. Ayer fue un dÃa especial y diferente, tuve el placer de acompañar a mi hija Marcela y a todos sus compañeros de Primer Grado a una práctica de Windsurf en Playa en Yaque, una de las más famosas por la práctica de este deporte. Resulta que el proyecto de todos estos niños se llama "El deporte como atractivo turÃstico del Municipio DÃaz", el municipio donde vivimos y en el cual se practican muchas disciplinas deportivas y la idea es que ellos puedan conocer aquellas opciones más cercanas a su hogar para practicar algún deporte.
La maestra es estupenda, creativa, divertida y arriesgada, con este proyecto nos llevará a muchos lugares que poco a poco les iré contando. Asà que salimos del colegio en un bus directo a Playa El Yaque la cuál queda a unos 20 min y que en esta temporada tiene poca afluencia.
Nos recibieron los entrenadores de la Escuela de Windsurf de Alexis Carache y bajo una sombrita de las palmeras nos dieron una excelente explicación y reseña de lo que es el windsurf, los niños hicieron preguntas y nos preparamos para ir a la arena porque la práctica solo serÃa en la orilla del mar por razones de seguridad, aunque incluso tenÃamos ayuda de protección civil.
Las indicaciones de los entrenadores fueron excelentes, es un deporte muy bonito y que particularmente me encantó, se debe tener una gran resistencia porque el viento es muy fuerte en esta playa y el sol desgasta muchÃsimo, además, el equipo pesa un poco. Yo estaba feliz viendo a Marcela emocionada por participar porque de verdad a Marcela no le atraen los deportes aunque su papá fue pelotero profesional y ya la llevamos al karate, no ha hecho click.
Todos los niños tuvieron su oportunidad de subirse a la tabla e imitar los pasos que el entrenador antes realizó y explicó, subes tus rodillas, te levantas primero con el pie izquierdo, tomas la cuerda (driza) con las manos, vas subiendo el mástil de la vela hasta llegar al pasamanos (botavara) y diriges la vela con tus brazos estirados y las rodillas flexionadas. Suena fácil 😂 y Marcela lo hizo genial.
Después de que todos los niños lo hicieran, el entrenador hizo una demostración en el agua para que todos los niños pudieran observar los pasos estando en el agua y como debes buscar tu equilibrio. Todos gritaban y con sus ojos bien abiertos veÃan fascinados cada movimiento del entrenador.
Terminamos descansando del sol bajo las palmeras un ratito, me sentà muy afortunada de poder acompañar a Marcela a esta actividad ya que no todas las mamás pudieron ir y algunos niños se sentÃan solitos, hay momentos mágicos y este fue uno entre ella y yo dónde solo estábamos las dos y ella sentÃa que toda mi atención era para ella. También nos tomamos un par de fotos lindas para nuestro recuerdo 💞
Ésta es mi playa favorita y mientras descansamos pudimos conocer al señor Leo Estredo, hermano del deportista margariteño Gollito Estredo quien ha sido 9 veces campeón mundial de Windsurf y quién es nativo de este pueblo y de esta playa. Ellos tienen una escuela también de windsurf y de kitesurf y nos invitó para una próxima práctica asà que este viaje fue más productivo de lo que esperamos. Pronto les contaré más de nuestras aventuras con los proyectos escolares, que espero sean igual de gratificantes y de inolvidables para esta súper mami. Abrazos.
