Today I wanted to talk to you about a topic that is very important to me and that has been present in my life for as long as I can remember, and that is creativity.
As I said at the beginning, usually when the word creativity is mentioned we immediately think of someone who can make beautiful handicrafts, creative cakes and dishes that are not only delicious but beautiful, but creativity really implies much more than that.
Being creative helps us solve problems in ways that no one else would have done. From solving everyday problems, like making a delicious meal with just three ingredients, to making our family budget go further if we need it.

Hoy quise conversar con ustedes de un tema que para mí tiene mucha importancia y que está presente en mi vida desde que tengo uso de razón, y ése es la creatividad.
Como les dije al inicio, generalmente cuando se menciona la palabra creatividad de inmediato pensamos en alguien que puede hacer manualidades hermosas, pasteles creativos y platillos no sólo deliciosos sino hermosos, pero realmente la creatividad implica mucho más que eso.
Ser creativo nos ayuda a solucionar problemas de formas en que nadie más lo hubiese hecho. Resolver desde problemas cotidianos del día a día, como hacer una deliciosa comida con sólo tres ingredientes hasta lograr que nuestro presupuesto familiar rinda más en caso de necesitarlo.
Creativity opens the windows of your imagination and unfolds a whole new world of opportunities where others see nothing. If you don't believe me, just go out on the street and see how many things people are capable of using their creativity.
I recently saw a bicycle with a motorcycle engine! Businesses of all kinds fill the streets of my town, one more creative than the other, and many times circumstances take us out of our comfort zone and force us to look for a solution and that is where creativity shines in all its splendor.
Now, are we all creative? I particularly believe that we are all creative to a greater or lesser extent, since at some point in our lives we managed to get ahead in the midst of complicated situations thanks to our creativity.
Many of us, for lack of thread, have used silicone to glue a button for example, or replaced a rubber band in the shower with a piece of foamy. All of us at some point in our lives have done something similar and that is creativity.
But like everything in life, if we want to be better at something there are no magic formulas, we have to dedicate time to develop it to the fullest.

Hace poco vi una bicicleta con un motor de una moto! Negocios de todo tipo llenan las calles de mi pueblo, uno más creativo que el otro y es que muchas veces las circunstancias nos sacan de nuestra zona de confort y nos obligan a buscar una solución y es ahí donde la creatividad sale a brillar con todo su esplendor.
Ahora bien, todos somos creativos? Particularmente creo que todos en mayor o menor medida somos creativos, ya que en algún momento de nuestras vidas logramos salir adelante en medio de situaciones complicadas gracias a nuestra creatividad.
Muchos, a falta de hilo hemos usado silicon para pegar un botón por ejemplo o sustituido una goma de la ducha con una pieza de foamy. Todas en algún momento de nuestras vidas hemos hecho algo similar y éso es creatividad.
Pero como todo en la vida, si queremos ser mejores en algo para eso no existen fórmulas mágicas, hay que dedicarle tiempo para poder desarrollarlo a plenitud.

Sí, así como el amor, el respeto, la responsabilidad y muchos más, la creatividad es un valor y como tal se puede enseñar e incentivar en nuestros niños al igual como lo hacemos con los demás valores que quizá consideremos más importantes.
Y quizá ustedes se pregunten cuál es la importancia de incentivar la creatividad en nuestros niños. Pues yo pudiera enumerar una lista enorme de los beneficios que ofrece poner en práctica la creatividad en nuestras vidas pero en éste punto les hablaré de tres, que considero son importantes desde mi punto de vista y mi experiencia personal.

La creatividad abarca todas las áreas de nuestra vida y adquiere gran importancia al momento de resolver conflictos. Esa frase que siempre escuchamos por ahí "se me prendió el bombillo" no es otra cosa que el chispazo de la creatividad. Ése momento en que nuestra mente idea la forma de solucionar algún problema que se nos presente.
Por ejemplo en mi casa mis dos hijos son muy creativos. Miranda más que todo hacia el área de las manualidades y muchas veces tiene soluciones a problemas del día a día que ni yo misma había pensado.
Por su parte Matías se va más al lado intelectual y funcionamiento de las cosas. Si algo se daña en casa el busca la manera de solucionar y da ideas para lograrlo. Tendría muchos ejemplos para darles, pero lo primero que me viene a la mente es cómo transformó una decoración navideña (muñeco de nieve) que funcionaba con pilas y le adapto un enchufe para que no dejase de funcionar por falta de baterías.

Por ejemplo hace poco los niños necesitaban llevar una autorización que enviaron en sus grupos del colegio y por problemas con el carro no se pudo imprimir. Por supuesto yo de inmediato pensé hacerla a mano, pero quería dejar a mi hijos buscar una solución.
Así que le comenté a mi esposo delante de ellos lo sucedido y a los pocos minutos Miranda me dijo "pero puedes hacerlo en una hoja, igual es la autorización". Y sí amigos, eso es creatividad. Buscar una solución a un problema. No es sólo pegar y hacer manualidades con material de provecho. Y como ese podría darles muchos ejemplos en los que ellos pueden tomar la iniciativa y resolver por sí mismos alguna situación personal e incluso familiar.

At home last year my husband had to travel out of the country for work. And due to his work and schedule we could only talk at night.
During his trip we had a problem with a pipe in the water tank that supplies us at home and I had no one to ask him what to do, but my son Matías, who is 11 years old, solved the whole problem. Not only did he come up with the solution but he executed it and we had water at home thanks to his creativity.
I don't have to tell you that he felt like the man of the house! He solved something of great importance all by himself, without anyone's help and of course as a mom it was very gratifying to realize his capabilities. But best of all was to see how that situation incredibly strengthened his self-confidence.
On the other hand, Miranda recently in her flute class received an incomplete score of a Christmas piece and trying with different notes she managed to get the whole piece out. The happiness she felt when she was able to do it was incredible, and it is these little things that build self-confident and independent children. Children who are confident in their abilities.
Fortalece su autoestima: personalmente creo que no hay nada más satisfactorio para el ser humano que finalizar una tarea que han podido hacer con sus propias manos o solucionar un problema gracias a una excelente idea que llegó en el momento justo.
Para un niño ver que es capaz de crear algo con sus manos, de hacer arte, tocar un instrumento, arreglar algún juguete que se les ha dañado o simplemente pensar en algo en los que otros no habían pensado es una validación de quienes son, de sus capacidades y eso les ayuda a sentirse orgullosos de sus logros y seguros de sí mismos.
En casa el año pasado por cuestiones laborales mi esposo tuvo que viajar fuera del país. Y debido a la actividad que realizaba y a su horario sólo podíamos hablar de noche.
Durante su viaje tuvimos un problema con una tubería del tanque de agua que nos surte en casa y yo no tenía a quien preguntarle qué podía hacer, pero mi hijo Matías con 11 años solucionó todo el problema. No sólo ideó la solución sino la ejecutó y tuvimos agua en casa gracias a su creatividad.
No tengo que decirles que se sentía el hombre de la casa! Solucionó algo de gran importancia él sólo, sin ayuda de nadie y por supuesto como mamá fue muy gratificante darme cuenta de sus capacidades. Pero lo mejor de todo fue ver cómo esa situación fortaleció de manera increíble su confianza en sí mismo.
Por otro lado, Miranda hace poco en su clase de flauta recibió una partitura incompleta de una pieza navideña y probando con distintas notas logró sacar toda la pieza. La felicidad al lograrlo fue increíble y son esas pequeñas cosas las que van formando niños seguros de sí mismos e independientes. Niños que confían en sus capacidades.

Así como desde pequeños enseñamos a nuestros hijos a ser respetuosos, obedientes, colaboradores también podemos enseñarles a ser creativos entendiendo por supuesto que cada quien desarrolla la creatividad a su manera y respetando la individualidad de cada quien.
En éste punto quizá se pregunten cómo se puede enseñar a alguien a ser creativo. Pues bien, como dije antes, nuestros niños vienen en cero en cuanto a aprendizajes se refiere, así que es nuestro trabajo enseñarles todo y así como les enseñamos a hablar, les podemos enseñar a ser creativos y utilizar su ingenio y para ello hay muchas alternativas que se adaptan a cada familia. En mi caso particular les dejaré tres que utilizo con mis hijos.

A medida que van creciendo los juguetes deben ir creciendo con ellos. En mi caso mis hijos aman los legos porque desde muy pequeños les compramos tacos grandes y con el paso del tiempo estos se hicieron más pequeños para llegar a los legos de niños grandes que usan ahora.
Ambos pueden pasar HORAS creando cosas nuevas. Han hecho ciudades, cine, parques, apartamentos, restaurantes, robots. Lo que se les ocurra ellos lo han hecho y para mí no hay nada que fomente más la creatividad como éste tipo de juegos.

Incentivarlos a solucionar "problemas" por sí mismos: para ésto incluyo en mi vocabulario frases como "tu puedes, confío en tí, cómo podemos resolver esto, qué podemos hacer?". Éste tipo de frases y preguntas aparte de generarles confianza en sí mismos los activarán en la búsqueda de una solución por sí mismos.
Y es que aunque quisiéramos estar con ellos siempre para ayudarles, la vida no es así. Desde pequeños van al colegio y deben aprender a desenvolverse sin papá y mamá ante cualquier situación que se pueda presentar en ausencia de ellos. De ahí la importancia de enfrentarlos a situaciones que los enseñen a tomar decisiones por sí mismos o solucionar algún problema.
Para ésto dejar de hacer las cosas por ellos es primordial. Muchas veces Matías ha llegado con situaciones del colegio preguntando qué puede hacer. Si es algo que creo puede resolver sólo lo que hago es decirle "resuelve" y no es que no lo ayude, pero sé que el está en capacidad de pensar y buscar una solución.
MATÍAS: "Mamá, no tengo paletas para una actividad"
MAMÁ: "piensa qué puedes usar en su lugar y resuelve".
Ése tipo de respuestas los activan a pensar de forma creativa.

En mi caso creo que mis padres tuvieron mucho que ver en que las tres en casa seamos creativas cada una a su manera, pero puedo decir que todas somos capaces de salir adelante, de inventar y crear soluciones donde nadie más las ve y eso es lo que quiero para mis hijos.
Que sepan defenderse en la vida, que avancen a pesar de todo, que ningún obstáculo pueda detenerlos por lograron encontrar la manera de sortearlo. Eso es creatividad!
