En un mundo donde la tecnología, los videojuegos y la redes sociales ocupan gran parte de nuestro día a día los niños no son la excepción. Están "enganchados" a cuánto aparato electrónico les ofrezca algo de entretenimiento y diversión, alejándose cada vez más de lo que era ser niño años atrás y como padres nos resulta bastante complicado lograr que ocupen su tiempo en cosas realmente productivas como es el caso de la lectura y simplemente por cansancio dejamos de intentarlo.
Es por eso que hoy papitos quiero darles cinco razones para cultivar en nuestros hijos el excelente hábito de la lectura.

They are "hooked" to any electronic device that offers them some entertainment and fun, moving further and further away from what it was like to be a child years ago and as parents it is quite difficult for us to get them to occupy their time in really productive things like reading and simply because we are tired we stop trying.
That is why today I want to give you five reasons to cultivate in our children the excellent habit of reading.
Para nadie es un secreto el sin fín de beneficios que nos proporciona la lectura, pero sabemos ¿cuán importante es para nuestros niños leer, cultivar en ellos el hábito de la lectura? ¡Quizá no! y seguramente estarán pensando que lograr que su niño se "despegue" del video juego y lea es misión imposible, pero les aseguro que no lo es! Vamos a estar claros, tampoco es fácil jajaja pero puedo garantizarles que después de leer éstas cinco razones se pondrán en acción y trabajarán con sus niños en incorporar éste importante hábito a su rutina diaria.
Por mi parte después de batallar un tiempo (y seguimos en eso) inicié con los mios! Soy mamá de Matías (11 años) y Miranda (8 años) y hace bastante tiempo he estado intentando que lean por lo menos media hora diaria, lo cual no ha sido fácil y aunque muchas veces me di por vencida, ésta vez lo logramos y están leyendo diariamente. No les puedo explicar lo feliz que me hace verlos leer porque pude concientizar lo importante que es para ellos y mi intención es que ustedes ¡puedan hacerlo también!

As for me, after struggling for a while (and we're still at it) I started with mine! I am mom to Matias (11 years old) and Miranda (8 years old) and for quite some time now I have been trying to get them to read at least half an hour a day, which has not been easy and although many times I gave up, this time we did it and they are reading every day. I can't tell you how happy I am to see them reading because I was able to make them aware of how important it is for them and my intention is that you can do it too!

1. Les ayuda a expresarse mejor y ampliar su vocabulario
Leer cada día les ayuda a conocer nuevas palabras que según su edad irán incorporando a su vocabulario ayudándoles a expresarse de manera efectiva y con mayor claridad.
Emplear unos minutos al día en la lectura serán de gran ayuda para que nuestros pequeños puedan desenvolverse y socializar con mayor facilidad.
Y por otro lado académicamente les resulta de mucha utilidad al momento de realizar las exposiciones y
proyectos escolares.

2. Fomenta la imaginación
Cuando leemos nuestro cerebro trabaja en conjunto con nuestros ojos creando de manera inmediata una imagen de lo que estamos leyendo. Es así como nuestros niños podrán dejar volar su imaginación creando en su mente mundos fantásticos y recreando las situaciones narradas, dándoles una apariencia a cada personaje, creando lugares y paisajes, sintiendo olores y sabores dejándose llevar por el escritor.
Esto puede inspirarlos a crear sus propias historias, a plasmar las ya leídas en hermosos dibujos o recrear escenas de lo leído en sus juegos. De cualquier manera leer abre sus sentidos y los lleva a hacer volar su imaginación y ¡pone su cerebro a trabajar!
2. Fosters the imagination

This is how our children can let their imagination fly creating in their minds fantastic worlds and recreating the situations narrated, giving an appearance to each character, creating places and landscapes, feeling smells and tastes, letting themselves be carried away by the writer.
This can inspire them to create their own stories, to capture what they have already read in beautiful drawings or to recreate scenes from what they have read in their games. Either way, reading opens their senses and makes their imagination run wild and puts their brains to work!
3. Ayuda a mejorar la compresión lectora
Entender lo que se lee es primordial en la educación de nuestros hijos y en su rendimiento académico. Una mejor compresión es igual a un mejor resultado.
Es por eso que en los primeros años de educación básica se hace mucho énfasis en lo que es la compresión lectora. ¿Cuántas historias han tenido que leer sus niños en casa y responder ciertas preguntas como parte de sus actividades escolares? Esto les permitirá poder entender sus clases con mayor facilidad.
De ahí la importancia de leer y en igual medida que nosotros papitos les pidamos que nos cuenten algo de lo que leyeron. Es un proceso en el cual los padres jugamos un papel de suma importancia y que suelo realizar con Matías y Miranda cuando finaliza su momento de leer.
3. Helps improve reading comprehension

That is why in the first years of elementary school there is a lot of emphasis on reading comprehension. How many stories have your children had to read at home and answer certain questions as part of their school activities? This will allow them to understand their classes more easily.
Hence the importance of reading and also that we parents ask them to tell us something about what they read. This is a process in which parents play a very important role and I usually do it with Matías and Miranda when their reading time is over.
4. Les aporta cultura general
Qué importante es saber de todo un poco! Y no quedarnos alienados sin poder opinar de algo porque no sabemos nada al respecto. Y no existe una mejor manera para lograr ésto que leyendo.
Cuando por ejemplo nuestros niños leen de un animal que nunca habían escuchado hablar, nace el deseo de saber qué es, cómo luce, dónde vive. Y así sucede con lugares y palabras que no conocen y que pueden encontrarse en medio de la lectura, naciendo así la oportunidad de aprender algo nuevo.
En mi caso como les comenté tengo dos niños. Miranda, la más pequeña, en medio de la lectura suele venir y preguntarme "mamá qué significa ésta palabra o dónde queda este lugar " al igual que Matías, su hermano mayor. El tratamiento por supuesto es distinto para ambos por su diferencia de edades. A Miranda le explico lo mejor posible lo que pregunta y a Matías en muchos casos le pido busque en el diccionario o en alguna enciclopedia de las que tenemos en casa. Debo confesarles que soy de la vieja escuela y trato que utilicen más los libros que Google siempre que sea posible.

Un valor súper importante y que debemos poner en práctica a lo largo de nuestras vidas. Ponerse en el lugar del otro, sentir y preocuparse por lo que sucede a otro ser humano es algo que debemos ir sembrando en nuestros niños.
Se preguntarán cómo los ayuda la lectura con ésto. Y la respuesta es simple. En toda historia los personajes pasan por distintas situaciones, buenas y malas y nuestros niños se logran identificar con cada una de ellas y sentirse tristes o alegres junto con el personaje.
Miranda por ejemplo está leyendo "Lluvia de Ranas" de Anxela Loureiro y en éstos días me contó muy preocupada que "a la pobre rana Ramona se le hundió el suelo porque un topo había hecho un mega túnel " jajaja. Identificarse de tal manera con cada situación que atraviesan los personajes, eso es empatía.
Como pueden ver son muchos los beneficios que aporta la lectura en el desarrollo de nuestros niños, no sólo a nivel de conocimiento sino en todos los aspectos de su vida y si bien no es fácil que dediquen un momento del día para leer vale totalmente la pena intentarlo. Como todo, es cuestión de hábitos y los hábitos se adquieren.

Like everything else, it is a matter of habits and habits are acquired.
