5 essentials for your hospital bag
Baby center a page I have been following since I found out I was pregnant, that has all the info on “What to pack in your hospital bag” but here I'm going to mention just the more essential 5 to me.
1. Pillows and Bed clothing
Depending on where you are going to deliver your baby, you may need to bring all the bed clothing with you, at least in Venezuela that is normal in almost every health care center, I knew that and so I brough all the sheets and a blanket for mine hospital bed, my big mistake was to just bring 1 pillow. I had a c-section and right after you have one of those you can’t move much without feeling pain and all laying positions are actually uncomfortable, specially if you want to carry your child and try to breastfeed, so I suggest a lot of pillows to help you get in a good position where you can feel more comfortable.
2. Clothing for you and your baby
First of all, remember you are having a baby so, they tend to throw up or have diaper accidents, that is why there is never too much changes of clothes you can bring him/her. In my case I brough 6 and we used them ALL, in just a day and a half we were there.
For you, don’t trust your pre-hormonal normal self, and bring extras, cause after you have deliver your baby and are all emotional and tired but most of all fill with crazy hormones, that change of clothes you brough in your hospital bag may not be what you want to put on even if is comfortable and pretty, I took a blue gown I had already tried on before that day and felt comfortable and pretty in it, but on the actual day I had to wear it well I didn’t wanted it lol, I felt horrible in it and asked my sister to bring me something else from my closet, also I thought I would want a dress to be more comfortable after birth but it turns out at the end it was a sweat pant what worked for me.
3. Toiletries.
Shampoos, toothbrush/toothpaste, a brush, deodorant, and a bar of soap, are the basics but don’t forget to bring whatever makes a post birth shower/bath more easy, like a small container to help you wash if the hospital doesn't have a hand shower or a bidet, this is important when you have a c-section and can bend or don’t want to get your scar wet.
Also, don't forget hair ties you may think you want your hair down but... after everything has pass you may change your mind.
4. Diapers and wipes and pads for you
A lot of diapers is unbelievable how many diapers a new born can actually use so, there are never too many, the wipes are a must not only for the baby but for you as well, specially if you had a vaginal delivery.
Make sure to use cotton maxi pads so you don't get all irritated on your privates for using those freaking things for what it seems an eternity.
5. SNACKS
Now this is a must! Specially if you don’t want your partner to leave your side at all to go buy them, this will also help you win over any nurses if you being extra to share with them, they will love you and believe me you want a loving and kind nurse!
To actually take the bag with you, nothing funnier than getting to the hospital and having left the things at home, especially if you dont have a car of your own.
Also make sure if you are going to keep things valuable like phones, money or any other thing you dont want to miss, to bring a lock with your bag, remeber those things stay in the room while you are in the delivery room or the OR and your family may leave the room too.
As always, thank you very much for reading me and
