My body my decision...
First Lest Talk About What Is Sterilization And How Does Work?
Is a safe and effective surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy. The procedure is tubal ligation, in which the fallopian tubes are cut or sealed. It’s sometimes referred to as getting your tubes tied. This prevents the egg from reaching the uterus and also keeps the sperm from reaching the egg. Without fertilization of the egg, pregnancy can’t occur.
The procedure is usually performed using a minimally invasive surgery called laparoscopy. It can also be done just after a vaginal delivery or cesarean delivery (commonly referred to as a C-section). Nonsurgical procedures use devices placed in the fallopian tubes to seal them. The devices are inserted through the vagina and uterus, and the placement doesn’t require an incision. – planned parenthood
Ok so, basically is a procedure done to women to avoid getting pregnant is a form of contraception. The next step to know is…
Is sterilization right for me?
Well this is a very personal question and something you should really think through and even talk to your partner about it, not cause he has to approve it but mostly cause well if you are in a relationship I think communication on this kind of things is important.
Keeping that in mind the main factors for me to choose this were:
1. I was certain I don’t want any more kids, not that I hate kids or that I don’t love mine but in my life plans there were never a priority or a need, I choose to have this one and honestly for me that is enough, I knew this as a fact I didn’t had a doubt about it and I talked with my partner about it and he had the same view as mine.
Let me be clear about this you shouldn’t just go with whatever your partner decides, remember in the future that relationship may end and then you could have a change of heart and it would be too late, so this is something to discuss with them but it should be a decision made by you.
2. The financial aspect and economical situation of my country was a factor, I mean I could have just gone the pill route or the IUDs one but those were too expensive and sometimes even hard to find here so I choose this one as a onetime thing that will last forever, if you don’t have any issues with other types of birth control maybe there is not rush in getting this kind of permanent procedure done.
3. I considered myself old enough to know I won’t have a change of mind, I mean this is something I know a lot of women in their 20s consider doing cause they know they don’t want kids, but if the number 2 is not a factor I again don’t think you should rush to it, enjoy life and actually enjoy the pill, I used to had 2 days periods and acne free face, now I don’t spend a dime on the pill that is true but I have acne and 10 day periods so yeah…. The pill was not a bad thing in my life.
Remember
Some tubal ligations may be reversible, but reversals often don’t work. Women shouldn’t count on the possibility of a reversal. Tubal ligation reversal is a complicated surgery, and it can be very expensive. – planned parenthood
Risk of getting your tubes cut and seal
- Like all medical procedures, sterilization has some risks but they are mainly link to the Anesthesia used or infection if the procedure is not properly done.
- Ectopic pregnancy that is when the pregnancy could develop in your fallopian tube.
If you set your mind to it, find yourself a doctor who respects your decision
And here you though I was going to say a partner nope actually the thing hard for me and that made me feel humiliated and not in control of my own body during the most important day of my life (the birth of my child) was the fact that even tho I already had the talk and had authorize the red cross to do the procedure, while I laid naked and cut open on the table of the OR I had to beg my doctor to cut my tubs, this was sooooo frustrating you have no idea, she (yes she was a woman) didn’t wanted to do it and I had to explain myself and beg for her to do it until a nurse bless her heart said ¨Doc is her body let her choose¨ TRUES SHIT EVER! Is my body I should be the one making this decision not you! Then … she went to ask for my boyfriend permission I was like ARE YOU F@#€ KIDDING ME??!?!?!?! one of her questions was what if I changed partners and I wanted kids with the next one so this move right here didn’t made sense with that cause how is he able to decide over me, I knew my boyfriend wanted to live so he was going to say yes and not risk me killing him, but what if he would have say not he would have been able to choose over me, and this power was given to him by a female doctor the whole thing didn’t make sense to me and it made me feel really angry.
Always use protection
This is a pretty effective birth control method but this doesn’t protects you from STDs of any kind so if you are going to be having sex you should always use protection.
IVF as a method to get pregnant even with your tubs cut
You can use IVF (in-vitro fertilization) to get pregnant after sterilization, is easier this way than try to reverse the operation like I said before this is almost impossible and could not work so IVF can be a solution, but not less expensive tho…
