Breastfeeding on Demand
Hi mamas!
In the battle of Boobs vs Bottle, I have to say in our case Boobs are the winners, not only they bring so much more benefices to the baby and my health but they are way cheaper than formula, tho my boyfriend would argue that since breastfeeding makes me hungry and eat like a trucker is almost as expensive LMAO.
I Breastfeed on Demand
What this means is when my child needs it or wants it is boob time, we have not schedules, we have not limits, we don’t do one boob for a set amount of time and then the other, we do what he wants when he wants it.
At the beginning I had to make sure he took enough of one to go to the other cause the first milk is mostly water and then it comes the richer and more important one, but other than that he pretty much gets what he wants when he wants it.
I’m not going to number here the MANY reasons breastfeeding your child is the best cause I think all of us know them by now, if you don’t please read this document by The World Health Organization on it.
I’m here to talk about the annoying issue both Bottle and Breastfeeding moms deal with…
Meddlers
If you are a bottle mom, people will judge you and say things like “what a lazy mom” “she just doesn’t want to ruin her boobs” or stuff like that, not knowing that those boobs are HERS to make the decision, and even worse not knowing if the mom wasn’t physical capable of breastfeed, this is something that can cause a lot of moms depression, and in the end no one should tell a woman what she should do or not do with her body.
Im a breastfeeding mom and so you would think I am safe from those comments, and while yes, I don’t hear stuff like “lazy or more worry about her boobs than her child” stuff I do hear other kind of comments that can be as harmful and annoying as those.
When I deliver my baby I had him through C-section so, one of my main worries that day was not being able to feed my baby and having to give him a bottle, at the end I didn’t needed to do it, but I was told by family I was not going to produce milk on the first day cause of the c-section so that was scary.
Luckily, by day 2 I was fully breastfeeding without an issue, I was at home and it was more easy for me to feel more comfortable and stress free, when you breastfeed is important to be stress free to help you produce all the milk your baby needs, then the thing I hear the most from friends was…
“But are you sure your boobs are enough? Shouldn’t you give him at least one bottle at night?”
Me being a new mom this made me worry I wasn’t feeding my baby properly so, I had to ask the pediatrician if I was doing it the right way, he reassured me I was. By the third month my baby was a little ball of fat, but I was losing weight as he was gaining it.
And that is when it started…
You are to Skinny You Should Stop Breastfeeding
For me breastfeeding has help me reach a size I have never in my life have been, size 0, I manage to be completely thing by 18 days since the baby was born as you can see in the picture below, and I eat A LOT! Im always hungry and always want to do something sweet like cake or cookies to eat, I will not say this was not the case before cause yes I have always loved cakes and cookies but now I need them to live and I can eat them without getting fat LMAO.
By the 3rd month of my baby I was starting to get way too skinny, he was sucking all the life out of me LOL, people started to tell me I should just stop the breastfeeding. You’ll see what this people don’t get is that a mom’s love for her child and care for his well being is more important to her than even her own, so I didn’t mind getting too skinny or looking ugly just cause I was flesh and bones, but it did hurt to constantly have the reminder that I looked ugly like that. This is something that won't last forever so, being too skinny for a period of time is not something I can not do for my child.
Anyways by the time my baby turned 6 moths old he started with his complementary diet of food, but since he did not eat that much it was still mostly just boob time all the time. And then it came the other critique…
He is too old you should stop breastfeeding
He is currently just 10 days shy of his second bday (yay!!!) and my big boy is still breastfed on demand, yes STILL! The WHO says that until 4 years the milk from the mom passes antibodies and other protection to the child, my milk is still good for him so why not give it to him if he wants it?
Since he turned 6 months old I have hear this, “he is too old now” no, he is not! And is my child and are my boobs I do what I want with both, he doesn’t eat too much food and his boobs are what keep him healthy, he still a small child so when he is scare or wants to know I love him he goes to his boobs to find comfort and love, why would I denied him that just cause people say so?
When will I stop breastfeeding?
I don’t actually know, is not like is fun to have him latch to my boobs all day long and don’t have time to myself but, when he gets older and is not longer breastfeeding I will miss this so for now i'm trying to enjoy as much as possible being this needed by my baby.
I don’t think I will continue to breastfeed until he is 4 years old or older cause I want him to go to preschool when he turns 3 but, I will not make him leave his boob time by force, I will probably just let it ride his own journey my nephew left the boob all on his own by the time he was 3, and I know not all childs are the same but i'm hoping mine will grow out of liking my boobs this much lol.
For the meddlers I only have one thing to say...
Go mind your own business, not your boobs and not your child to have an opinion
As always, thank you very much for reading me and
I hope to read your comments!
