Today I want to write about my beautiful daughters and their amazing achievements these past few months.
My kids were definitely not born to be Olympians, but I am gobsmacked every now and then in their intellectual and cultural capabilities.
While I was growing up, my mother always used to say: “A girl has to dance!” I was forced to do tap, ballet and Spanish dances throughout my primary and high school years. I had a rebel reputation to uphold, so this was all done undercover!
Now as a parent myself, both of my daughters are practicing in dance as well, even though I do not force them… I only strongly encourage it 😉
Both of them are Hip Hop newbies, they started in January. I’m hoping it will loosen their hips, but it is a great source of exercise as well. They do burpees, mountain climbers, star jumps and general fitness in each class.
Adri, my youngest, is the singer in our family. She has done tap lessons for a few years now as well and is turning into a jazzy superstar!
Linda does guitar lessons and with her sister’s amazing voice, I’m hoping the two of them will start their own muso duo in the near future! Adri’s dream is to become a Youtube popstar after all! A mother can dream… 😜
But let me not forget their academic achievements! Both daughters are extremely intelligent. They find it easy to learn and have so much pride in their work and stellar reports.
Adri in Grade 4, she is 10, had an outstanding average of 88% for her report card. This was her first time writing exams. Linda in Grade 6, she is almost 12, improved on her previous report and shocked us with an average of 91%! I couldn't be more proud of them!
Their dad must be the brain behind these 2 superstars!!! 😝
So that is how I started my post. We can’t be doing everything wrong, even though parents have a way of beating themselves up over the smallest things. After divorcing a few years ago, working full time for a few years and then actually starting to enjoy my own independence and adult life, I have always been worried that I am a bad parent.
### But when I see how strong, unique and amazing these two young ladies are shaping up to be, I tell myself… we must be doing something right.
