I all, it was suggested I write a bigger piece on Who Give a Crap and how I got my company to switch to them, so here we go π
Who Gives A Crap was kicked off in 2012 when the 3 founders, Danny, Simon and Jehan, discovered 2.4 billion people don't have access to a toilet (this is now 2 billion for those following at home). It was kickstarted on IndieGoGo and to help raise awareness Simon sat on the warehouse toilet until the pre-order funds where raised to start production, this took 50 hours!
To add some context 2.4 billion people translates to roughly 40% of the global population and meant that around 300,000 children under five died every year from diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. That's almost 800 children per day, or one child every two minutes.
They delivered their first product in March 2013 and donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. Last year they donated $5.85 million and total donations to date a $8.3 Million.
Ok so how did I get my company to switch? Well I cheated a bit because I work for a not for profit, so we are already in the giving space, however just because we are NFP does not mean we donβt care about keeping the lights on.
- Get the cost of your current supplier and compare. You fill find that the difference is pretty tiny, but you need these numbers to make a case
- The rolls are so pretty! Seriously look so much better than your standard rolls. Ask for some samples and show your boss how much better the place looks.
- Explain that 50% of the profits go to help those in need! It will offset any small cost to the business plus the brand is very recognisable now, s the company gets kudos!
