There's something kinda wierd about this being my first post on HIVE in over 10 days, and it being about a toilet. But - I honestly think it's the prettiest toilet block I've ever seen and I challenge you to match it in the comments.
We approached this toilet block the long way round, via a walk around the headland at Port Douglas in Australia's far north. The walk was great - lovely views, and an opportunity for cardio going up and down some stairs! Totally worth doing, unless you're being super lazy.
We didn't notice it the day before at the markets, because from there, it was just a dull loo at a distance, something we'd rather ignore, right?
But wow. Check this out.
I can't put them in any order or I'll spend far too long on a toilet block than I probably should, so I apologise. Check out the little blue fairy wren on the bottom left - one of my favourite birds.
Then there's a cockatoo, which I'm sure you'll recognise. Look at the big leaves. A lot of this is not just tiles, but ceramics made by locals.Having mosaiced stuff myself, I'm pretty impressed. Not only that, but it's made by heaps of people in the community - a real combined effort.
Can you see the beautiful kingfisher below? We were lucky to spot them on the Daintree river, above sleeping crocodiles (more on this later). I love the leaves in this section, don't you? So colourful! And look at the ceramics in the photo on the right. I think it's made by school kids.
We were a bit gutted not to see a python. The place we stayed at definitely had them, as they would eat their chickens every few months. However, we had to go out at night, which we never got around too. And look at those lovely bats! It was pretty cool to see them flying around the jungle. A different environment to Victoria for sure, but not more or less beautiful - just different.
I hope you enjoyed my tour of the toilet block in Port Douglas! Seen a better or similar one? Throw me a photo in the comments below.
With Love,
