Hail to the Hive!
So we now live on a boat and this comes with all its own little quirks. It has its own kitchen, or galley as they call it, a bed or berth, as it's known and of course it has it’s own toilet, loo, bog, khazi, crapper or in boat terms ‘the head’
So how does this work?
Well there are a number of options usually available on a boat.
On some the nasty stuff ends up in the water, not an option!
On others the lovely human waste ends up in a holding tank and has to be pumped out periodically when full. Can prove expensive.
Compost toilets have come a long way and these are now an increasingly popular option and one we are seriously thinking of getting later this year. When we do you can bet your bottom dollar we will be postint about it in #thelooloo community
What we have is a cassette toilet.
What is a cassette toilet I hear you cry?
Well a cassette toilet has a large cartridge or cassette that fills with loveliness and when full can be removed emptied and replaced.
Our cassette can be accessed behind this little panel here
Like so.
Carefully does it as if it's not closed properly it could ruin your day!
Once removed we can dispose of it free of charge at any of the Canal and River trusts stations that have an ‘Elsan’ point.
Always a good idea to make sure the mechanism is secure on top before moving it otherwise you could end up wering some of it when you pick it up. Not good!
Usually we would also fill up our freshwater at these points as well as they have a water point, garbage disposal and an ‘elsan’ point.
So there you go. Our cassette toilet on our little liveaboard narrowboat filled with lots of lovely kaka doo doo poo poo which I will spare you from viewing ;)
