Hi fellow Hiveians,
First time posting in the Fungi community! We spent some time walking around the woods recently and saw some great fungi all around!
Forest Fungi Finds
One of the things we've seen quite a few of recently is a lot of mushrooms sprouting all around the place!
We recently took a trip to the mountains in New Hampshire and on that journey, we found quite a few things we didn't expect: lots of really interesting mushrooms sprouting in many different areas! Now I'm going to say that I have completely zero knowledge of wild fungi and what is safe or what is dangerous so I, like so many others, treat it as they are all poisonous to various degrees. I know some are perfectly harmless but I don't plan to test that theory out so I just leave them alone and take pictures of them instead lol.
There were a lot of different kinds of mushrooms sprouting up not only on the ground but on the trees as well! I don't see the tree mushrooms often but it was really cool to see them here.
Walking back towards our car, the little man found this giant blossom! I was thinking holy crap, that's a lot of mushrooms lol. I'm guessing they have a good amount of moisture for them to grow on the tree like that.
I think I've seen these types of mushrooms over the past few months. I only really remember it because they are a bright orange-red color. This one was a bit of a bowl it seems, loading it up with water. Not sure if any animals will be brave enough to take a drink from this one lol.
There was quite a bit of mushrooms of the same type, at least it appears to me, growing all over the ground of some trees nearby. The little man was very excited to see the sheer quantity of the mushrooms around but wasn't too happy that I wouldn't let him hit them with a stuck or crush them. Don't want to release spores into the air, given that again, we have no idea what type these are and if they are dangerous lol
We have seen quite a few interesting fungi around both at home as well as when we are traveling. I'm not sure if we are just more curious and seeing things since our son is interested in so many things or if it was a product of the really large amounts of rain that the East Coast had received this past summer and fall. Whatever the reason, we are definitely enjoying the different fungi sprouting around!
