Hello friends! It's Friday today, which means we will see some cool mushroom posts! π The beginning of Autumn can be really amazing to fill time with some specific activities outdoors.
In the last weeks we had a lot of rain here is Slovenia and especially in the Julian Alps. We can see the rivers, which were totally dry, now with streams of water. This can be even quite dangerous when river overflow when the water comes unexpected down from the mountains.
Generally, we would suggest picking the mushrooms that you really know, because some of them are very dangerous. Even be careful because there are also mimicry mushrooms.
While looking for them on our hike in the woods, our first rule number one was to be attentive to the mushroom color. We found strange purple, bluish, green, white, red, yellow... Most of them were not edible, some even poisonous.
In our region at the Julian Alps we normally look for wanted King Bolete mushroom (Boletus edulis) which is super yummy, this time sadly no luck.
Instead we picked some nice Parasol mushrooms (Macrolepiota procera) some days before. We fried it on olive oil with lots of onions, garlick and chives. It was a nice topping for a sandwich snack. This type of mushrooms don't grow in the forest, only on grass fields.
Nevertheless, we have already found lots of different mushrooms so far. It was such a nice thing to just walk around in the woods. Because of the rain it was even a stronger smell of all the leaves, moist, moss, wet dirt and other flowers. We enjoyed the sound environment like wind playing with branches of the trees, animals coming to the surface and our own steps.
After the rain, we noticed gigantic salamanders take over the leadership over the woods. We needed to pay a lot of attention, specially when walking off the tracks. They are pretty noisy animals, as they seem to come close and out of their hiding place as soon as they hear some sound.
Rain and Autumn is a really nice combination. Specially if you reward yourself with hot tea or cacao when reaching back in your cozy warm home where you can sit in front of the fireplace after a hike.
This is our first contribution to #FungiFriday by . It's really nice to contribute because we love the idea of the whole process of educating ourselves more on this topic. Thank you for adding this to the Hive community.
We hope you enjoyed our post!
