Greetings, Hiveans!
It's been a while since I penned down my thoughts on this amazing platform, and I must admit, I've missed the warmth of this incredible community.
Over the past couple of months, life has thrown challenges my way, but here I am, back on the platform, eager to share a glimpse of my journey—the journey of becoming a doctor in the United States.
Completing my one-year internship at the renowned University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, was an eye-opener. Witnessing the pinnacle of my profession inspired me to aim for the stars. Fueled by this ambition, I decided to embark on the challenging path of specialization and certification in a country where my license would be recognized worldwide—the United States.
The first hurdle on this journey was a tough exam. Determined to complete it within three months—a feat most take 6-9 months to achieve—I delved into a rigorous study routine. I sacrificed my side hustles, including affiliate marketing, Hive, and forex trading. Waking up at 4 am, fueled by the first cup of coffee, I dedicated 12 hours daily to conquer this demanding exam. The result? I emerged victorious earlier this year.
However, the financial challenges were real. The second exam loomed, costing another $1500. With the hourly rate for a doctor below $2, I took up two jobs, reaching out to family members for support. The sacrifice paid off, and I successfully faced the daunting nine-hour exam in Ghana, albeit with a struggle in the final hour. Though I passed, I yearned for a higher score.
Then came the English proficiency test—a necessity for working in the US. Despite the financial strain, I paid $587 Australian dollars for the exam, battling low moods and fatigue. But I conquered it, adding another accomplishment to my journey.
But the hurdles didn't end there. Applying to hospitals came with unexpected expenses—$1850 for applications and an additional $923 for various expenses. The road was tough, but it brought me closer to my goal.
And now, here I am, having secured interviews in two hospitals, one in New Jersey and another in New York.
Amidst this whirlwind, where does Hive come in? I am immensely grateful for the support I received on Hive. The funds generated from my writings and the games I played on this platform contributed to my flight expenses, and, most significantly, Hive exclusively funded my exams. Hive has been more than just a community; it's been a lifeline during this challenging journey.
As I stand on the brink of a new chapter, I can't help but express my gratitude. Hive, you've been a silent companion, a financial support system, and a source of encouragement. I hope this platform receives the recognition it truly deserves.
Thank you, Hive—thank you for being there when it mattered the most!
