Hi Hive Lovers
Do you often procrastinate or experience a delay without clarity?
I just returned from experiencing an incident that everyone really doesn't want, namely delays in a routine event at the office where I work.
It can be experienced by anyone, anywhere, at any time. But it's different, unlike in the case of flight schedule delays. As passengers on airplanes, people have no control over events like what happened to me or other similar incidents.
The time delay I mean here is our non-compliance with a schedule that has been agreed upon and determined together.
What happened to me
All employees at the general meeting at the beginning of the year agreed to sign an integrity pact. This is an obligation for every employee where I work, and we have to renew it at the beginning of each year.
We must renew it at the beginning of each year we work as a commitment for everyone to continue working with integrity.
I am the number-two person where I work; there is still my boss as the top leader. Upon everyone's agreement, my leader has agreed to carry out the signing of the Integrity Pact at 10 a.m. local time.
At that time, I was 5 minutes earlier in the hall where the event was being held. However, only 3 officers were there and had prepared all the equipment needed for the signing. Five other employees were seen chatting in front of the door outside the hall, and the rest were nowhere to be seen, including my boss.
At exactly 10 a.m., I asked one of the officers to take a picture of the readiness of the room and remind us of the event schedule on our WhatsApp group. A few minutes later, some people in the WhatsApp group had read the message, which I found out after being notified by the officer earlier.
What happened then was that the event, which had been scheduled for 10 a.m., still had not started. Woe, the clock on my hand has shown 10:30. It was delayed by half an hour. What are they doing?
Half an hour has passed and the event has shown no sign of starting soon, which is something that is very bad for me.
I always try to be punctual, especially in situations where other people are present.
It is a commitment and appreciation for the agreement that has been set up. It is a habit and will eventually become character.
At 10.30 am, I took a stand to sign the Integrity Pact sheet that had been prepared for me, "early for me and for myself."
I didn't want to wait any longer for the signing to be carried out together and for “nonsense”, I told the officers there that I had done my duty and asked them to tell my boss that I had other important work to do. I will finish soon. I actually left that hall space.
15 minutes later, as I was at my desk, I got a notification in the WhatsApp group that everyone had lined up and taken a group photo after the signing. This means that the new event was held at 10.45 WIB, 45 minutes later than the original plan.
I feel very sad, but I'm not at the helm here. I feel very impolite if I have to tell or ask my boss to be present on time. I can understand that maybe he has something else that can't be postponed.
In this case, delaying time without any notification or explanation to everyone is a very bad thing, especially in terms of one of the principles that I adhere to in my work.
(Maybe it could work for you too.)
What's the lesson for me?
Some people often ignore timely attendance and consider every time we have worthless, especially at work. This is not recreation! We can't relax in it, right?
A schedule that has been agreed upon and set together is a condition that is in our full control. We do not depend on the control of others.
So, it is we who arrange everything, so that we can commit to the schedule that we have set for ourselves, and that must always be carried out as it should.
Keep trying to always arrive on time at an event that you have set with other people.
The habit of being late or on time is our character. If you have a habit of procrastinating, then you are a person with no positive character traits.
Keep trying to have a positive attitude!
