"...this is my mission and I'll have no limitations"
— Thomas Shelby [Peaky blinders]
Do we have limitations? And if we did, are they destined to be there or figments of our imagination?.
I have a thought on this, something I've been ruminating upon and I've started to employ and I'd like to share in this article.
Now don't get me wrong there are good limitations we can set for ourselves. The limitation I'm referring to here are boundary or constraints that hold us back from achieving our goals.
I believe most of what we call "limitations" are actually challenges and you also believe challenges are meant to be overcome. I believe we're are own limitations. Our limitations mostly are in our heads.
If we take a look at the world today, there are certain realities some years back that would've been seen as impossible but here we are. Take airplanes for example, before the Wright brothers had a breakthrough, it was simple madness for anyone to think man to fly but today it isn't.
Everytime I think of being at my limits, I remember the story of Thomas Edison, of how he tried 999 times and failed before getting it right the 1000th time. Do you know what Edison said? He said "I didn't fail, I only found 999 ways that don't work". And that's what I'm basically talking about today, there's no harm in trying and failing and trying again. Failing doesn't mean we're at our limits, it only means we aren't doing something right. You learn from them, you learn to do something better.
Keep going at it. What's the point of trying and failing? Well my answer is a question — what is the point of not trying?.
What is the point of giving up?. Except you're hurting yourself or someone in the process, there's no point in giving up.
We could do the same thing but in a different way.
In the end, not giving in to the idea of limitations is first a mindset before a way of life. And the thing about mindset is that they're built!. There's no rushing it, one brick at a time. You try the first time, you go at it again with a different approach and you see you get a better result or something closer to what you want.
However, I we are not selling ourselves snake oil, we're not trying to sell ourselves a fairytale with a "happily ever after". There'll be challenges, it won't be easy and it might not end with "cheers and congratulations" but there'll always be a take away for the next mission.
Glad to have shared this thought with you. Cheers to more wins in the future, cheers to no limitations!
