This evening an acquaintance came to visit. It was a brief but poignant meeting. As mothers who used to have kids at the same school – we typically speak about our children. Depending on the situation – it might be a short or long conversation. In this brief meeting - our conversation was very general and I decided not to ask too many questions. I needed to listen and that is what I mostly did. When I was asked what I thought – I gave my 2cents worth. However, I tried my best not to be long winded.
The conversation was centred around people who lacked self-confidence and not feeling worthy and all the ideas and thoughts around that. We talked about people not feeling enough. At first, we blamed the pandemic and inflation but then we delved a bit deeper.
We all need love and support – so it is wonderful when we know we have supportive family members or friends or even one person to turn to. Someone who cares - someone who listens.
As humans, we often look for validation from others. We look outside ourselves, seeking approval because we want to fit in. However, in the end we still need to love ourselves. We can seek the opinions of other, that is ok; but afterwards will we then know and feel confident that what we've heard – will make us feel good enough?
We are unique
No two people being the same as the other. We are complexed and we have our good and bad points. We have our weaknesses and our strengths. They make us who and what we are. We should not fake being anything else – that will become stressful. One can chose to work on any issues. That is fine, but, in the meanwhile, accepting and loving oneself is important. Realising that no one is perfect is also important. We are all in the “work in progress” mode – learning, growing and always developing - if we want to. Irrespective of where we fall on the spectrum – it is fine. We are fine.
These 3 words form a very powerful sentence.
We are enough.
You are enough.
I am enough.
One needs to - feel it, know it and believe it.
As any visitor to my blog will know by now, I write poems sometimes. I told my visitor that I once wrote a poem for a depressed friend, about being enough. She could not believe it. This is the poem – I shared with her.
You are unique.
You are you and that is enough.
You are not perfect,
No need to be.
What would you do with it?
You do not need it,
You have no room for it -
as you are already enough.
You are complete, already whole.
You are everything.
Like the tumultuous, energetic sea.
Like the calming, babbling brook.
You are what you should be,
Nothing more, nothing less
and that, my friend
is good enough.
