I wouldn't say I was a skin care enthusiast until this past year. (I actually heard that Covid turned many people into skin care enthusiasts because they had nothing better to do). Health, in general has been something on many people's minds and since we are all inside, there's no better time to focus on making healthier meals and doing some quick workout videos.
So back to skin care. As stated, I never cared that much until seeing viral videos of "rebuilding skin barrier", "glowing skin hacks" and "getting rid of lines and spots". I started looking into some of these tips and tricks and quickly realized that less was more.
- The less you wash your face the better.
I decided to forgo the morning face wash in order to rebuild my skin barrier.
AND WOW. Yes, it works. At first it feels really weird. Waking up and not washing your face with cleanser and water, but what I learned was that the oil/residue on your face in the morning is in face a protective barrier that should not be washed. So the morning routine includes 1) put on rose water 2) put on vitamin c serum 3) sunscreen (if going outdoors) 4) light makeup if one wants to.
- Organic face products are better.
Now that I was getting into skin care mode, I started taking a careful look at the ingredients in the skin care. There is a lot of garbage out there and it was important for me to know what I was putting on my face. So I decided to go with an organic brand from the USA. Little did I know that I would have to pay currency differences and international shipping. Nonetheless, I like the skin care products I bought and was now on a mission to find something similar where I live in Canada in order to scrap the extra fees.
- Different skin care brands have the exact same formulas/ingredient lists.
My mission to find the exact same skincare in Canada began with me snapping a photo of the ingredient list on the bottle of skin care I bought from the USA. I went onto Amazon and started doing my research. Within 10 minutes I found at least 4 products with the exact same skin care ingredients. The ingredient list was the exact same, even the words in brackets.
- The revelation
After doing my research, I came to the revelation that skin care is not about the brand at all. It is about the ingredient list. If you find the formula that works for you then you can literally go hunting for the cheapest brand with the formula you like.
Now, I am on the hunt for the manufacturing labs...stay tuned!
