Would you be a kid again?
This interesting reflection popped in my mind while I was strolling through an urban park one weekend. Apart from its impressive lush landscapes, a specific space immediately caught my eyes. It was the playground!
Inside, children (and adults alike) were bursting with laughter, enjoying the available toys, apparatus, and equipment. They were clearly thriving inside a bubble of their own, like an invisible cocoon embedded with happiness and different from the more chaotic environments outside.
If so, wouldn't it be incredibly amazing to rewind the clock and become young again?
Perhaps for those of us who had fond memories of childhood, this would be a likely choice. On the other hand, this probably won’t be the case for those who have been unfortunate victims of traumatic experiences. As sensitive as this decision is, there are several factors that influence one's subjective perception of time.
However, here's one of life's most mystifying thoughts. Why do we want to play with time in the first place? Is it even possible to manipulate it?
As a mere invention of human consciousness, the concept of centuries, decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds have captivated our imagination ever since technology taught us how to count. Chronological systems have set the stage to measure our voyage from birth to death, seldom making the entire process quite rigid, even to the point of being overly robotic.
What if time never existed when the “Big Bang” triggered the explosion of the universe? Would we even be aware of our existence? Maybe not.
During my younger years, I wasn’t even sure it was there - embracing a carefree outlook to my immediate surroundings. For instance, whether I was completely immersed in an enjoyable hobby like sketching architecture, painting nature, or reading an interesting book, I always wondered why the days suddenly turned into nights. Could the saying “time flies when you’re having fun” be true after all? Most probably.
Isn’t it ironic that time seems to move slowly when you’re bored or have nothing to do? Yet, shouldn’t it be the reverse? When you’re passionate about something, time appears to be never enough. Work never felt like an ongoing struggle, but was purely child’s play!
Hmm, our endless questions simply outweigh the answers we seek. Are you with me?
Let’s face the hard truth. As much as we desire to control time, we absolutely can’t command it to follow our will - for now. With our limited resources, we can solely be under its mercy until such a possible future when people can discover the real secrets of time travel. Who knows?
Whether it’s for us or against us, time will constantly be our most valuable asset. Similar to our utter frustrations about the ever-changing weather, we can only adjust our boat sails while conquering the sea of life.
Therefore, let’s not waste time. If you’re still a child, fully savor it while you still can. If you’re already an adult or someone reaching the end of your journey, don’t despair. Summon the “inner child” within you to spring forth, transforming the world around you into your own personal playground while you’re still alive. The present moment is what we all have. Spend this precious gift wisely!
