Listened to a powerful 2 hour podcast today about trauma and a lot of other things.
It gave me a lot of insights ( once again ), basically related to where our 'pain' comes from and how we can heal ourselves by doing inner work, focusing on feeling - starting at the feet, not the head and working our way upwards.
So, I just put my feet in the little creek that runs around the park here and, right now, they are drying in the grass ( while I'm seated at a picknick table, typing this ).
Sometimes we need to be reminded of the clichés that many of us have heard of but weren't aware of, nor acting on.
To take it a step further, I ordered a book, recommended by the man who did most of the talking/ the interviewee on the podcast:
I ordered both the E-book version ( for myself and possibly my brother and/or others ) and decided to send a paperback version to my mother, back in The Netherlands, who has been dealing with all kinds of pain ( likely connected to unsolved/ unknown trauma, as is the case in 90% of pain and diseases ).
The podcast started with the feeling of anger and how not learning to deal with this/ feel through this ( often because you're told not to be so angry as a young kid ), causes trauma and later stomach issues, back pain and all kinds of other symptoms and dis ease.
Now this is something I can relate to, a lot.
I tend(ed) to think that I can't get angry, I tend(ed) to please others, avoid conflict etc. but I'm also aware of the fact that it would be healthy, to actually get angry/ feel my anger, every now and then and I am sure that hardly doing or feeling this, is causing many of my physical issues, pains, feelings of dis ease etc.
The feeling needs to go somewhere, after all, and ends up in the body, if you can't release it.
Western medicine doesn't focus on this. Working through trauma doesn't sell drugs, nor does focusing on the cause. (Treating) suppressing the symptoms does, and it sells in the long term.
The book I ordered is titled 'Healing Back Pain' and is basically focusing on how trauma is often the causes behind back pain and how getting back to feeling into our body and getting out of our head/ mind, can heal this.
This is a topic that is extremely dear to me, as I've always been into my head ( a lot ) and back pain is one of my returning 'themes'.
I feel that my mother might benefit from this. She has been dealing with physical dis ease for ( at least ) 8 years now, without getting much relief. In fact, she is experiencing very little positive effect from all these years of examination, physiotherapy, yoga and all kind of other trajectories that she tried.
If you read the above and you're curious to hear/ learn/ feel more about this yourself, you might want to seek out this book ( Healing Back Pain ) by John E. Sarno or read one or more books written by Jan Bommerez ( the interviewee in the Dutch podcast that I listened to, today ), who often writes about the following themes: trauma, flow, transformation and letting go.
I sure will.
