So one of my friends decided to call me and two more to go to the theater and watch the new Ant-Man movie as he happened to be free this Sunday. And while my thoughts are pretty simple about the movie, what made this way more fun was to have done so with my friends, specially with some of the silly things that happened on this adventure (or that we commented while watching the movie).
Uno de mis amigos decidió llamarme a mí y a dos más para ir al cine a ver la nueva película de Ant-Man ya que casualmente estaba libre este domingo. Y aunque mis pensamientos son bastante simples sobre la película, lo que hizo esto mucho más divertido fue haberlo hecho con mis amigos, especialmente con algunas de las cosas tontas que sucedieron en esta aventura (o que comentamos mientras veíamos la película).

After we arrived, bought the tickets and entered the theater...there was no one inside. And I think that only like 10-15 more people must have entered the room to watch the movie a bit after it started. While I thought it probably makes sense that there wasn't that many people watching the movie today as the "half-price-off" day is at Monday (but we couldn't go that day since one of us only has Sunday free), it still felt pretty odd to be there and basically have no one watching the same movie as us.
But hey, at least that meant that there was no noisy people while watching the movie :)
On the note of annoyances with watching the movie, however, when Hope and Hank are looking for Jane in the Quantum Realm (I'll explain that in a bit), the projector turned off and we spent like 5 minutes joking around the fact that the movie just happened to...quit while watching it. We all pulled out phones as one started playing Vampire Survivors, another one opened Pokemon Platinum on Drastic, another one opened Yugioh Tag Force on PPSSPP, and I pulled out Pac-Man Championship Edition on PPSSPP. But it wasn't long after we did that that the movie finally started playing again, albeit back to when all the cast was being dragged back to the Quantum Realm.
However, outside of a very brief moment where the projector blacked out (which was a bit concerning on whether another big pause could happen again), we could watch the movie fafter that without any problems, and something pretty cool happened instead: As the movie ended and we waited for the obligatory Marvel post-credits to roll out, while the few people that were there were leaving, there was one old lady that did NOT leave and I was telling my friends that she was the "Miss Marvel" (Though not literally the character; in Spanish I said "Señora Marvel" to refer to her) as she stayed until the post-credits rolled out and even readied her seat as it started.
We ended up joking all the way back to home walking about how she had some hidden Marvel lore behind that happening, as well as about the movie and other stuff, and overall was a pretty enjoyable trip today.
And now I will mention quite a few spoilers and key bits from the movie, so if you do have that much of an interest to watch this blind (which I honestly would recommend if you do have friends to do so) then...might want to stop here and wait until you have watched it.
Después de llegar, comprar las entradas y entrar en el cine... no había nadie dentro. Y creo que sólo unas 10-15 personas más debieron entrar en la sala para ver la película un poco después de que empezara. Aunque pensé que probablemente tenía sentido que no hubiera tanta gente viendo la película hoy ya que el día de "mitad de precio" es el lunes (pero no pudimos ir ese día ya que uno de nosotros sólo tiene libre el domingo), todavía se sentía bastante extraño estar allí y básicamente no tener a nadie viendo la misma película que nosotros.
Pero bueno, al menos eso significaba que no había gente ruidosa mientras veíamos la película :)
En la nota de las molestias con ver la película, sin embargo, cuando Hope y Hank están buscando a Jane en el Reino Cuántico (voy a explicar que en un poco), el proyector se apagó y nos pasamos como 5 minutos bromeando sobre el hecho de que la película acaba de pasar a ... dejar de verla. Acabamos bromeando todo el camino de vuelta a casa sobre cómo ella tenía algo de Marvel oculto detrás de ese suceso, así como sobre la película y otras cosas, y en general fue un viaje bastante agradable hoy.

A somewhat abridged summary of stuff

As someone that actually didn't watch the first two Ant-Man movies, there's some upsides and downsides about how simple the premise setup is here. Outside of how funny it was that it started with Scott himself reading a book about his misadventures saving the world with the Avengers and getting jokes from his wife, inlaws and daughter from having written that book, it all comes down to how Cassie (which, no joke, had forgot her name and had to look it up), Scott and Hope's daughter (which in case you don't know, they are Ant-Man and The Wasp...hey, just like the title!), made a telescope to look into the Quantum Realm, which while had Hank Pym impressed and proud, Janet (Hope's mother) on the other hand panicked and unplugged the device after being told that it sent a signal to the Quantum Realm.
And that moment of panic (inferred to be from her previous time there which was likely seen in the previous movie) that looked like an overreaction to the rest...turned into the beginning of the movie as something tracked them down and sucked the cast into the Quantum Realm once again.
It has me split with how silly simple the premise might be if you oversimplify it (Cassie made a shrinking suit for herself while Scott was absent along with a Quantum Realm telescope, and said telescope ends up taking them into the Realm...which means that it all started with her making a device and sucking all of them in), but on othe other hand, it didn't have me confused over previous setup as any importants events that might have been in previous movies as things like Janet's previous time in the Quantum Realm (and being rescued from there) and Cassie growing up without Scott during the time everyone else was there were mentioned clearly.
The movie goes through a balance of foreboding situations (which makes sense as all of them are now in unexplored places of the Quantum Realm) and jokes between them, like the wild-looking ritual that Scott and Cassie were being forced to go through was simply to drink a goo that allowed them to understand the Quantum Realm people's language (...but you didn't know that until it was done), Janet having a friendly handshake with a menacing soldier by breaking their arm and sticking a knife into it (which...doesn't do much to them anyways as it was made out of jelly and regrew the arm while holding the knife) as turns out she knew them, and slowly but surely getting to know about the presence of rebels trying to fight back against an empire leaded by someone called "The Conqueror".
As the separated cast has to move and fight back soldiers from this conqueror that gives them chase, there's more things happening and revealed, like Scott and Cassie being captured by this Conqueror, the reveal of this conqueror as Kang the Conqueror through Janet's flashback of how she stumbled with him before, and the appearance of M.O.D.O.K. (who here is actually another character from a previous movie that got trapped in the Quantum Realm and got turned into what he is now by Kang)
...Which results far more silly with how he virtually is a giant head with tiny limbs in a suit with a floating chair and lasers. Both in appearance and in his actual powers (unlike you might have thought from the comics...if he is any bigger threat there).
And the rest would be too wordy to really explain step by step, but basically the big fights and rebellions break out with how the events keep unfolding as Kang threatens Scott with his daughter to get the core needed to escape the realm (and he gets it, but kidnaps Janet and leaves instead of staying to his promise) and the cast give him chase to end his plans once and for all.
So that is a quick summary about what I saw, but now its time for the kicker: The silliness that goes on from here and onwards.
Como alguien que realmente no vio las dos primeras películas de Ant-Man, hay algunas ventajas y desventajas sobre lo simple que es la premisa aquí. Fuera de lo gracioso que era que empezara con el propio Scott leyendo un libro sobre sus desventuras salvando el mundo con los Vengadores y recibiendo bromas de su mujer, suegros e hija por haber escrito ese libro, todo se reduce a cómo Cassie (que, no es broma, había olvidado su nombre y tuve que buscarlo), la hija de Scott y Hope (que por si no lo sabéis, son Ant-Man y The Wasp. ...¡eh, como el título!), fabricaron un telescopio para mirar dentro del Reino Cuántico, que si bien tenía a Hank Pym impresionado y orgulloso, a Janet (la madre de Hope) por otro lado le entró el pánico y desenchufó el aparato después de que le dijeran que enviaba una señal al Reino Cuántico.
Y ese momento de pánico (que se deduce de su anterior estancia allí, probablemente vista en la película anterior) que parecía una reacción exagerada al resto... se convirtió en el principio de la película, ya que algo los rastreó y succionó al reparto al Reino Cuántico una vez más.
Me tiene dividido lo ridículamente simple que puede ser la premisa si la simplificas demasiado (Cassie se hizo un traje encogedor mientras Scott estaba ausente junto con un telescopio del Reino Cuántico, y dicho telescopio acaba llevándolos al Reino.... lo que significa que todo empezó con ella fabricando un dispositivo y absorbiéndolos a todos), pero por otro lado, no me confundió con la configuración anterior, ya que cualquier acontecimiento importante que pudiera haber ocurrido en películas anteriores, como la estancia previa de Janet en el Reino Cuántico (y ser rescatada de allí) y el hecho de que Cassie creciera sin Scott durante el tiempo en que todos los demás estaban allí, se mencionan claramente.

I know that it sounds silly, and of course it is considering that it comes from that one joke comment about Morbius ("My favorite part is when Morbius said "it's morbing time" and morbed all over them"), but I kid you not that I practically thought that when the last fight was starting to get to a heated point.
You see, back when the cast was sent into the Quantum Realm, Hank was also showing the rest an ant farm with modified super-smart ants...and that farm clearly broke at the beginning with these super-smart ants going to the trip with them. Well, in one moment where Hank was driving a ship and got struck down, he got that fixed thanks to the super smart ants finding him and repairing the ship, as they seemingly went through thousands of years of life while they traveled there and basically turned into engineer ants that could build stuff and fight.
Well, those ants came back to fight and swarmed Kang as well as his army when the heroes were at a disadvantage, and while Kang tried to defend himself with a barrier, this barrier got struck down by a M.O.D.O.K. convinced to "not be an idiot" by Cassie and call himself Darren as he crashes into it so that Kang gets swarmed away by the super ants (while passing away as he convinces himself that he became an Avenger with that).
So yeah, he got swarmed by ants by Ant-Man's father-in-law.
...yup. And this almost solved that fight as the cast managed to fix a portal to return, until Kang fights against Scott with his bare fists as his power gauntlet broke. This is a dramatic fight as it gets framed as Scott might happen to decide stay behind just to stop Kang from leaving, and he almost fails to do that until Hope herself comes through to stop him and fight alongside Scott to get him to finally perish through the core, which destroys him and the portal.
This ends with Scott and Hope comforting each other as they see the aftermath of their involvement with the people at the Quantum Realm finally being free of Kang's tyranny and taking back their home, as they fought back and made sure that Kang could not escape to Earth...
...but Cassie gets to turn on the device that started it all and opens the portal again, so they could go back and it ends with a bookend about Scott telling his tale about how he saved the Quantum Realm and World again in the same way the movie started...only with an ominious realization about how Kang said that "they would all die if he was stopped", but tries to shrug it off as he brings a cake for a "fake birthday" for his daughter, as the family is finally reunited.
It does feel like quite a few things make it goofier than it should be (if not the intention), like how my friends pointed out M.O.D.O.K. being nerfed in intelligence, power and being converted by "the power of friendship", as well as the fake out about Scott and Hope having to stay behind, but the movie did the job of making for an entertaining ride, and one that was easily the best from all the Ant-Man movie as some of them said.
Oh, and there was a post-credits scene about there being a whole multiverse of Kangs commenting on the death of this one Kang, while they summon a whole army of Kangs into a colosseum with a bunch of other Kangs cheering and even a shot of "the classic Kang" (who looked like a blue dude rather than simply using a blue mask/visor).
Oh, and there was a second post-credits scene that we didn't see since it was after the BIG credits roll with everything in it (and at that point we left) that had another Kang called Victor Timely, Loki and...Morbius??
Okay that's it, I'm done with this for now.
Sé que parece una tontería, y por supuesto que lo es teniendo en cuenta que viene de ese comentario de broma sobre Morbius ("Mi parte favorita es cuando Morbius dijo "its morbing time" y se morbeó encima de ellos"), pero no los engaño dew que prácticamente pensé eso cuando la última pelea estaba empezando a llegar a un punto acalorado.
Verán, cuando el reparto fue enviado al Reino Cuántico, Hank también estaba mostrando al resto una granja de hormigas con hormigas superinteligentes modificadas... y esa granja claramente se rompió al principio con esas hormigas superinteligentes yendo al viaje con ellos. Pues bien, en un momento en el que Hank conducía una nave y se le estropeó, consiguió arreglarlo gracias a que las hormigas superinteligentes lo encontraron y repararon la nave, ya que al parecer pasaron por miles de años de vida mientras viajaban allí y básicamente se convirtieron en hormigas ingenieras que podían construir cosas y luchar.
Pues bien, esas hormigas volvieron para luchar y atacaron a Kang y a su ejército cuando los héroes estaban en desventaja, y mientras Kang intentaba defenderse con una barrera, ésta fue derribada por un M.O.D.O.K. convencido de "no ser idiota" por Cassie y llamarse Darren al chocar contra ella, de modo que Kang fue atacado por las superhormigas (mientras fallecía al convencerse a sí mismo de que con eso se había convertido en un Vengador).
Así que sí, derrotado por un enjambre de hormigas por el suegro del Hombre Hormiga.
...yup. Y esto casi soluciona esa pelea ya que el elenco logra arreglar un portal para volver, hasta que Kang lucha contra Scott a puño limpio ya que su guantelete de poder se rompió. Esta es una pelea dramática como queda enmarcada ya que Scott podría decidir quedarse atrás solo para evitar que Kang se vaya, y casi no lo logra hasta que la misma Hope aparece para detenerlo y luchar junto a Scott para que finalmente perezca a través del núcleo, lo que lo destruye a él y al portal.
Esto termina con Scott y Hope consolándose mutuamente al ver las secuelas de su participación con la gente del Reino Cuántico finalmente libre de la tiranía de Kang y recuperando su hogar, ya que lucharon y se aseguraron de que Kang no pudiera escapar a la Tierra....
...pero Cassie consigue encender el dispositivo que lo inició todo y abre el portal de nuevo, para que puedan volver y termina con un final de libro sobre Scott contando su historia sobre cómo salvó el Reino Cuántico y el Mundo de nuevo de la misma manera que la película comenzó ... sólo con una realización ominosa sobre cómo Kang dijo que "todos morirían si era detenido", pero trata de encogerse de hombros mientras trae un pastel para un "cumpleaños falso" para su hija, ya que la familia está finalmente reunida.
Es cierto que hay algunas cosas que la hacen más tonta de lo que debería (si no es esa la intención), como la forma en que mis amigos señalaron que M.O.D.O.K. había sido debilitado en inteligencia, poder y convertido por "el poder de la amistad", así como el engaño sobre Scott y Hope teniendo que quedarse atrás, pero la película hizo el trabajo de hacer un viaje entretenido, y uno que fue fácilmente el mejor de toda la película de Ant-Man, como algunos de ellos dijeron.
Ah, y hubo una escena post-créditos sobre todo un multiverso de Kangs comentando la muerte de este Kang, mientras convocan a todo un ejército de Kangs en un coliseo con un montón de otros Kangs animando e incluso una toma del "Kang clásico" (que parecía un tipo azul en lugar de simplemente usar una máscara/visor azul).

A fun movie, that while it can be visibly called predictable in some regards (like Kang shedding crocodile tears over every time he tries to be gentle with his requests/threats, everything turning out fine in the end, and the general plot points), once again I found it throuroughly enjoyable after all even without having watched the previous movies and always had a laugh over every time we had a glimpse of M.O.D.O.K. Darren along with the jokes.
And even though the general consensus seems to be pretty mid on the movie (as well as how all I heard of the movie before watching it was nothing but jokes about M.O.D.O.K. facing off the red and yellow suited Scott and Hope being stupidly similar to Spy Kids 3D), it definitely was worth watching thanks to my friends for the ride, the jokes and even getting to understand some of the things that happened that I didn't really know context for before.
That was all for today! I still have to talk one day from back when I watched One Piece Film RED a few months ago (and how since then, I got hooked into reading the One Piece manga; I've finally caught up to chapter 1005 so I'm surprisingly close to getting to current), but for now it was pretty fun for a weekend. Of course this might not be a supercomplex or insanely well-written movie, but with the CGI being good enough (instead of infamously terrible like what happened with Thor Love and Thunder) and being a good time overall, I could say that this was a inoffensively fun movie.
Una película divertida, que si bien se puede calificar de predecible en algunos aspectos (como Kang derramando lágrimas de cocodrilo cada vez que intenta ser amable con sus peticiones/amenazas, todo sale bien al final, y los puntos generales de la trama), una vez más me pareció muy agradable después de todo, incluso sin haber visto las películas anteriores y siempre me reía cada vez que veía al M.O.D.O.K. Darren junto con las bromas.
Y a pesar de que el consenso general parece ser bastante medio en la película (así como todo lo que he oído hablar de la película antes de verlo era nada más que chistes sobre M.O.D.O.K. frente a la roja y amarilla traje de Scott y Hope ser estúpidamente similar a Spy Kids 3D), que sin duda valió la pena ver gracias a mis amigos para el paseo, las bromas e incluso llegar a entender algunas de las cosas que sucedieron que yo realmente no sabía contexto para antes.

Todavía tengo que hablar un día de cuando vi One Piece Film RED hace unos meses (y cómo desde entonces, me enganché a leer el manga de One Piece; por fin he alcanzado el capítulo 1005 así que estoy sorprendentemente cerca de llegar al actual), pero por ahora fue bastante divertido para un fin de semana. Por supuesto que puede que no sea una película supercompleja o locamente bien escrita, pero con el CGI siendo lo suficientemente bueno (en lugar de infamemente terrible como lo que pasó con Thor Amor y Trueno) y siendo un buen rato en general, podría decir que fue una película inofensivamente divertida.
