Hi! I was thinking a lot about what I could share with you this week and I had several movies and series options in mind, but in the end, I decided on one of my favorite anime: Erased.

This series for me is a gem that I recommend to everyone and is especially good to introduce Japanese animation to someone who is not familiar with it or who thinks it's just fights and Gokus (which I also love), besides Studio Ghibli movies of course, but those are a separate topic.
It is a relatively short series as it consists of 12 episodes, all of which are on Netflix, it also has a live-action adaptation that you can also find on that streaming platform and which we will talk about a little later. It is considered within the Seinen genre, that is to say that it is aimed at a young-adult audience, it is a drama with touches of suspense and thriller.
Satoru, is a young man who all his life had dreamed of being a famous mangaka (manga author), but for reasons of fate has not managed to be, and at 29 years old he is working as a delivery boy in a pizza restaurant to support himself and to continue working on his dream of becoming a renowned manga author.
Despite his failure as a mangaka there is something that makes him special and that is that he has an ability, which he calls "revival", which allows him to go back in time to fix something that is wrong, usually to save someone from some misfortune or tragedy, however, and to Satoru's bad luck, he can not control these "regressions", plus for every good deed he does thanks to the "revival", a misfortune happens to him.
I watched this anime several years ago when it just came out in 2016 and it completely grabbed me. If there is something I love is time travel, from Doctor Who, which is one of my favorite series, to The Ministry of Time is a topic that I know I will always enjoy and that will entertain me pleasantly, so that's how I decided to start with this wonderful story and I must say that it caught me from the first chapter, something that does not always happen to me. I warn you that there may be spoilers ahead. However, I try not to give any spoilers for the end of the series.
In the beginning of this story, we can see how the "revival" returns to Satoru a few minutes before a tragedy, after analyzing his surroundings he realizes that there is a child about to be run over, so he proceeds to save him, however, he is run over instead. So, we are made clear that despite being a special ability, it was not really anything good for Satoru and honestly, I think it is a "power" that no one would like to possess, usually when I see characters with special powers with most of them I have the idea that I would like to try their powers for a while, but in this case, it is a resounding no.
One day being accompanied by his mother he has a "revival" that forces him to save a girl from being kidnapped and unknowingly both get involved with a serial killer who during Satoru's childhood kidnapped and murdered several children from his town and even from his school, these memories had been repressed by him. His mother, perhaps with the idea of protecting him, did not touch the subject with him again, which was a mistake because that would have helped him with the events that follow in the story.
The kidnapper manages to recognize his mother and for fear that she has also recognized him and denounces him, he follows her to her son's apartment and kills her, but not before leaving everything ready to incriminate Satoru who was just about to arrive, once again, I would NOT like to have this power, since at the end of the day saving the girl from kidnapping practically caused the death of his mother and I think it is a very high price to pay for being a hero.
Before arriving at the apartment, Satoru unknowingly passes by the killer, but unfortunately only glances at him out of the corner of his eye. When he enters his apartment and finds his mother dead he cannot believe what is happening and logically goes into shock, here I want to make a parenthesis to highlight the beauty of the relationship between Satoru and his mother, she raised him and brought him up alone and despite all the mistakes that a mother can make, they get along quite well and have a complicity that is really admirable.
But to Satoru's bad luck, when he was just assimilating that his mother had just been murdered, one of his neighbors (too gossipy) by chance peeks into the apartment and seeing the body and seeing him with blood on his hands suspects that he had murdered her, so she reports him to the police who come to arrest him, however, luckily for him at that moment the "revival" is activated.
But of course things were not going to be so easy for our protagonist, because to Satoru's surprise he does not return a few minutes earlier to save his mother, no, that would be too easy, but he returns to his childhood, 18 years ago and here comes one of my favorite scenes of the whole series, when after everything that has happened in his present he returns to see his mother alive and even if it is in the past this makes him really happy, it is a scene full of emotion that moves anyone and more to those who have lost a loved one and would like to see them again, at least for a moment.
We gradually discover the purpose for which Satoru returns 18 years ago and is that everything that had happened before had been an injustice, since they imprisoned an innocent and the real murderer was free to continue committing crimes, this is what Satoru must correct and it takes him time to understand that, because he had repressed those memories. That is why, at first, he thinks he must only save Kayo, one of his classmates, from her abusive mother. But then he starts to remember everything that happens and realizes that what he must do is to prevent the kidnapping and murder of all the children and prevent an innocent young man from being imprisoned.
I don't want to get too far into the story because I don't want to give you too many spoilers, cause the series has several plot twists that at least I wasn't expecting and that were a nice surprise.
One of the most notable points in Erased is the battle of intellects between the killer and Satoru, not so much because the latter was brilliant, but because he possessed information of the future and was beginning to thwart the killer's plans, this eventually causes him to be forced to confront Satoru to try to understand how he can be one step ahead of his plans, which brings truly disastrous consequences for Satoru.
The story thrives on the protagonist's comings and goings to the present and the past, and it is through these journeys that we as viewers and Satoru himself finally come to understand that his sense of justice makes him the hero he always wanted to portray in his mangas.
Satoru Fujinuma
He is a young man in his late twenties who dreamed of becoming a renowned manga author, however, he fails to become one and finds himself working in a pizza restaurant as a delivery boy. He possesses an ability that allows him to "travel" in time in order to save a person.
Sachiko Fujinuma
Satoru's mother, a very shrewd expert ex-journalist, possesses a determined and gentle character. She helps Satoru protect Kayo from her mother and tirelessly cares for her son after he suffers a terrible accident.
Airi Katagiri
Satoru's co-worker at the pizza restaurant, she is youthful and cheerful. She believes and supports Satoru when his situation gets complicated with the police.
Kayo Hinazuki
Satoru's schoolmate as a child, she is a victim of domestic violence by her mother and is murdered as a child, Satoru seeks to protect her at all costs from her mother and her murderer.
Kenya Kobayashi
Satoru's companion and confidant as a child, he helps protect Kayo and the other children from being murdered. He also helps catch the killer.
Jun Shiratori
A young friend of Satoru's who is framed and wrongfully imprisoned for the kidnappings and murders of several children.
Hiromi Sugita
Satoru's classmate and part of his group of friends, is one of the original victims of the child murderer, when Satoru returns in time he helps protect the other children at risk.
Aya Nakanishi
She is one of the victims of the child killer, she attends a different school than Satoru, however, she joins his group of friends who seek to protect her.
Gaku Yashiro
Teacher of Satoru and his friends, he helps protect Kayo from her abusive mother. He has a kind and understanding character.
1.- The revival ability.
I find it an ingenious and different way of handling time travel, the fact that he couldn't control the regressions generated interesting situations full of angst.
2.- Satoru's relationship with his mother.
In general Satoru's mom was my favorite character, she has a very nice attitude and does everything she can to support and take care of her son, she completely shows the unconditional love of a mother towards her son. On the other hand, Satoru puts his life and future at risk to save her. They have a truly exemplary relationship of love and trust.
3.- The struggle between Satoru and the murderer.
As I mentioned before, this point is truly remarkable, since Satoru with all the knowledge he acquires through his investigations in the present manages to anticipate practically every move of the murderer, so he, frustrated because all his plans have been thwarted by a child, decides to face him, which brings devastating consequences for Satoru.
4.- The way they finally catch the killer.
Seeing the children as adults working together is wonderful, as they fulfill the commitment they made years ago to protect each other and catch the killer. Plus, the deception they use to catch him seems quite ingenious to me.
5.- The plot.
In general, the series has a good pace and despite being 12 episodes only they managed to involve me completely in the story. It also made me empathize with the characters and with several situations.
1.- They never explain how Satoru acquires the "revival" ability.
I would have liked to confirm if it was because of the trauma of living through the murders as a child and if not, what else could have caused them.
2.- The relationship between Satoru and Airi in the first timeline.
I think she is too young for him, as she is even underage, while he is in his late 20's almost reaching 30, although they never explicitly show a romantic relationship between the two of them.
As you can see there are many more positives than negatives, in fact I had to try hard to find bad points because I really love this story and it is definitely a "must" whether you like anime or not.
There is also a Live-action version that also consists of 12 episodes and is also available on Netflix, it is an adaptation a little more focused on the Manga, but that resembles the Anime enough to also be worth watching.

Erased - Una maravillosa joya del anime para todos los gustos.
Esta serie para mí es una maravilla que le recomiendo a todo el mundo y es especialmente buena para dar a conocer la animación japonesa a alguien que no está familiarizado con ella o que piensa que solo son peleas y Gokus (que también me encantan), además de las películas de Studio Ghibli desde luego, pero esas son tema aparte.
Es una serie relativamente corta ya que consta de 12 episodios, todos se encuentran en Netflix, además también cuenta con una adaptación live-action que también pueden encontrar en esa plataforma de streaming y de la cual hablaremos un poco más adelante. Está considerada dentro del género Seinen, es decir que va dirigida a un público joven-adulto, es un drama con toques de suspenso y thriller.
Satoru, es un joven que toda su vida había soñado con ser un mangaka (autor de mangas) famoso, pero que por razones del destino no ha logrado serlo y a sus 29 años se encuentra trabajando como repartidor en una pizzería para poder mantenerse y seguir trabajando en su sueño de convertirse en un autor de manga reconocido.
A pesar de su fracaso como mangaka hay algo que lo hace especial y es que posee una habilidad, a la que él llama “revival”, que le permite regresar en el tiempo para arreglar algo que está mal, normalmente es para salvar a alguien de algún infortunio o tragedia, sin embargo, y para mala suerte de Satoru, no puede controlar estas “regresiones”, además de que por cada buena acción que realiza a gracias al "revival", le sucede una desgracia o tiene alguna consecuencia negativa.
Este anime lo vi hace ya varios años cuando recién salió en el 2016 y me atrapó completamente. Si hay algo que me encantan son los viajes en el tiempo, desde Doctor Who, que es de mis series favoritas, hasta El ministerio del tiempo es un tema que sé que siempre voy a disfrutar y que me va a entretener gratamente, así fue como me decidí a comenzar con esta maravillosa historia y debo decir que me atrapó desde el primer capítulo, cosa que no siempre me pasa. Advierto que puede haber spoilers más adelante, sin embargo, intento no dar ningún spoiler del final de la serie.
En el comienzo de esta historia podemos ver como el "revival" regresa a Satoru unos minutos antes de una tragedia, éste analizando su alrededor se da cuenta de que hay un niño a punto de ser atropellado, así que procede a salvarlo, sin embargo, él es atropellado en su lugar. Así nos dejan claro que, a pesar de ser una habilidad especial, en realidad no era nada bueno para Satoru y honestamente creo que es un "poder" que a nadie le gustaría poseer, yo normalmente cuando veo personajes con poderes especiales con la mayoría tengo la idea de que me gustaría probar sus poderes un rato, pero en este caso es un no rotundo.
Un día estando acompañado de su madre tiene un "revival" que lo obliga a salvar a una niña de ser secuestrada y sin saberlo ambos se involucran con un asesino en serie que durante la niñez de Satoru secuestró y asesinó a varios niños de su ciudad e incluso de su escuela, estos recuerdos habían sido reprimidos por él. Su madre, quizás con la idea de protegerlo, no volvió a tocar el tema, lo cual fue un error porque eso lo hubiera ayudado con los acontecimientos que siguen en la historia.
El secuestrador logra reconocer a su madre y por miedo a que ésta también lo haya reconocido y lo denuncie la sigue al departamento de su hijo y la asesina, no sin antes dejar todo preparado para incriminar a Satoru que justo estaba por llegar, una vez más, NO me gustaría tener este poder, ya que a final de cuentas salvar a la niña del secuestro prácticamente ocasionó la muerte de su mamá y creo que es un precio a pagar muy alto por ser un héroe.
Antes de llegar al departamento, Satoru sin saberlo pasa junto al asesino, pero lamentablemente sólo lo mira de reojo. Al entrar en su departamento y encontrar a su madre muerta no puede creer lo que está pasando y lógicamente entra en estado de shock. Aquí quiero hacer un paréntesis para remarcar lo bella de la relación de Satoru y su mamá, ella lo crió y sacó adelante sola y a pesar de todos los errores que puede cometer una madre se llevan bastante bien y poseen una complicidad que es realmente admirable.
Para mala suerte de Satoru cuando apenas se encontraba asimilando que su madre había sido asesinada, en ese momento una de sus vecinas (demasiado inoportuna) por casualidad se asoma al departamento y al ver el cuerpo y verlo él con sangre en sus manos sospecha que la había asesinado, por lo cual lo denuncia ante la policía, estos rápidamente llegan para interrogarlo, sin embargo, en ese momento se activa el "revival".
Pero por supuesto que la cosa no iba a ser tan fácil para nuestro protagonista, así que para sorpresa de Satoru no regresa unos minutos antes para salvar a su mamá, no, eso sería demasiado fácil, sino que regresa a su niñez, 18 años atrás y aquí viene una de mis escenas favoritas de toda la serie, cuando después de todo lo que ha pasado en su presente vuelve a ver a su mamá viva, aunque sea en el pasado, es una escena llena de emotividad que conmueve a cualquiera y más a los que hemos perdido a un ser querido y quisiéramos volver a verlo aunque sea un momento.
Vamos descubriendo poco a poco el propósito por el que Satoru regresa 18 años atrás y es que todo lo que había acontecido anteriormente había sido una injusticia, ya que encarcelaron a un inocente y el verdadero asesino había quedado libre para seguir cometiendo crímenes, esto es lo que Satoru debe corregir, pero se tarda en entenderlo, debido a que había reprimido esos recuerdos, por lo que al principio piensa que solo debe salvar a Kayo, una de sus compañeras de clase, de su abusiva madre. Pero luego va recordando todo lo que sucede y se da cuenta de que lo que debe hacer es evitar el secuestro y asesinato de todos los niños y evitar que encarcelen a un joven inocente.
No quiero adentrarme demasiado en la historia para no hacer spoilers más importantes ya que la serie tiene varios giros que por lo menos yo no me esperaba y que fueron una buena sorpresa.
Uno de los puntos más notables es la lucha de intelectos entre el asesino y Satoru, no tanto porque este último fuera brillante, sino porque poseía información del futuro y se dedicó a frustrar los planes del asesino, esto hace que eventualmente se éste vea obligado a confrontar a Satoru para tratar de entender cómo puede estar un paso adelante de sus planes, lo cual trae consecuencias verdaderamente desastrosas para Satoru.
La historia se nutre de las idas y vueltas del protagonista al presente y al pasado, y es mediante estos viajes que finalmente logramos entender, tanto nosotros como espectadores, como el mismo Satoru, que su sentido de justicia lo convierte en el héroe que siempre quiso retratar en sus mangas.
Satoru Fujinuma
Es un joven a final de sus veintes que soñaba con ser un reconocido autor de mangas, sin embargo, no logra serlo y se encuentra trabajando en una pizzería como repartidor. Posee una habilidad que le permite "viajar" en el tiempo con el objetivo de salvar a una persona de algún desastre.

1.- El revival.
Me parece una manera ingeniosa y diferente de manejar los viajes en el tiempo, el hecho de que Satoru no pudiera controlar las regresiones dio pie a situaciones interesantes y llenas de angustia.
2.- La relación de Satoru con su mamá.
En general la mamá de Satoru fue mi personaje favorito, tiene una actitud muy agradable y hace todo lo que puede para apoyar y cuidar a Satoru, muestra completamente el amor incondicional de una madre hacia su hijo. Por otra parte, Satoru pone en riesgo su vida y su futuro para salvarla. Tienen una relación de amor y confianza verdaderamente ejemplar.
3.- La pugna entre Satoru y el asesino.
Como ya mencioné con anterioridad este punto es verdaderamente remarcable, ya que Satoru con todo el conocimiento que adquiere mediante sus investigaciones en el presente consigue adelantarse a prácticamente todos movimientos del asesino, por lo cual éste, frustrado porque todos sus planes han sido arruinados por un niño, decide encararlo, lo que desencadena un accidente terrible para Satoru.
4.- La forma en la que finalmente capturan al asesino.
Ver a los niños como adultos trabajando juntos es maravilloso, ya que cumplen con el compromiso que adquirieron años atrás de protegerse y de atrapar al asesino. Además de que el engaño que utilizan para atraparlo me parece bastante ingenioso.
5.- La trama.
En general la serie tiene un buen ritmo y a pesar de ser 12 episodios solamente, lograron envolverme por completo en la historia y hacer que me involucrara con los personajes además de identificarme con ellos y algunas situaciones.
1-. Nunca explican cómo Satoru adquiere la habilidad del "revival".
Me hubiera gustado confirmar si fue a raíz del trauma de haber vivido los asesinatos de niño o por qué tenía esas regresiones.
2.- La relación entre Satoru y Airi en la primera línea temporal.
Creo que ella es demasiado joven para él, ya que incluso es menor de edad, mientras él está a finales de sus 20 casi por llegar a los 30, aunque en realidad nunca muestran explícitamente una relación amorosa entre ambos.
Como pueden ver son muchas más cosas positivas que negativas, de hecho, tuve que esforzarme para buscar puntos malos porque en verdad me encanta esta historia y definitivamente es un "must" les guste o no les guste el anime.
Existe también una versión Live-action que también consta de 12 episodios e igualmente se encuentra disponible en Netflix, es una adaptación un poco más enfocada en el Manga, pero que se asemeja lo suficiente al Anime como para que también valga la pena verla.
