Greetings!
In the 1980s I began to hear some beautiful songs on our radio like Mama Mia, Super Trouper, Dancing Queen, and Chiquitia. I do not know who sang those songs but I do like them because they are so beautiful to hear. And then slowly but surely I came to know who sang them, it was ABBA. Also, I did not know what the nationality of ABBA was, until, again, slowly but surely I came to know that they are from Sweden and they are married couples.
How amazing I told to myself. A music group can be composed of two married couples, just like ABBA. As of the moment, and to be honest, I do not know of any music group composed of two married couples after ABBA.
There is no doubt that ABBA is one of the most successful music groups ever. I think up until now there is a stage musical called Mama Mia! touring around the world. As successful as ABBA is I am not surprised that there will be a movie about their songs. In 2008 it happened just like that, a movie titled "Mama Mia" was released and some of the famous names acting in the movie were Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, and Meryl Streep.
The narrative of Mama Mia is a fun, romantic, sad, happy, and amazing musical movie about the story of a woman whose daughter's father is unknown and there are three possible fathers of the daughter. It was revealed in the movie that the daughter invited all three of them. How did she know the names? Watch and find out.
I like the first songs of ABBA that were used in the opening of the movie, the song fits perfectly. The first scenes put a very wide smile on my face about the three possible fathers of the daughter. I love it when the young versions of the three men are shown in the movie giving us an idea of how they look like when Donna fell for them. I loved it when Harry played the guitar and then sang. The writer did a fantastic job is incorporating the song into the script of the movie. In the early part of the movie, it showed that it is indeed it is a musical movie.
Midway into the movie the Super Trouper is sung and performed by Donna and her two friends, I must say that I love it, the song is just fantastic, and the way it was performed is so amazing it captures the narrative of the moment that it was being performed amateur by former professional singers who were past their prime.
Also, I absolutely love to see Pierce Brosnan's singing, he is magnificent. I have known Pierce Brosnan for his action movies but this is the first time that I saw him sing let alone act on a musical movie. It is just so refreshing to see your favorite actors and actresses doing something that you have never seen before and Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried did just that.
Another song that made me smile is "Does Your Mother Know" performed by Tanya and Pepper at the beach. It was amazing and the song perfectly fits the acting of Tanya towards Pepper.
I must admit that I thought I successfully guessed the ending of the movie but it is not. Also, I think I was not able to guess any of the significant turn of events in the plot. This is maybe one of the movies in which I was not able to successfully guess significant events and I also was not able to successfully guess the ending of the movie. The script did an amazing job of making the viewers believe that what will happen next is based on what we are seeing in the movie but it is not. It was successfully concealed until it was revealed at the end of the movie. I am not going to spoil it here, you must watch the movie in order for you to know.
Aside from Villa Donna (which I like), another location in the movie that I like very much is the location of the church. I never thought that I was going to see a scene in a movie where the majestic location of a church is included for the purpose of shooting a wedding.
Another thing that I like in the movie is the "very Greek" appearance of Amanda Seyfried while preparing for her wedding, I just love it. The movie perfectly portrayed Amanda as a Greek woman. Her appearance is so simple yet so beautifully greek.
All in all the movie is great and also a success. It is also a huge success financially. The movie perfectly used the songs, and the style of how the song was sung and performed was just perfect (the movie perfectly portrayed the "raw" situations in how the song was performed inside the movie. I also like the location of the movie, Greece. Greece is one of the romantic places in the world its beaches are just rawly romantic and casual at the same time. I also like how the Villa Donna was portrayed as it perfectly captured the fact that the villa was maintained by a female. This movie is a must-watch especially if you are a fan of ABBA and their song. I am sure you are going to love it. It has been 15 years since it was released but still very significant today in how powerful the effect of a classic and great song from a great music group from Sweden is.
