Hello #MoviesandTVshows community. Today, I bring you the review and opinion of chapter 3, season 1 of the Argentine series: Mujeres asesinas. The series inspired by the book by journalist Marisa Grinstein whose cases addressed, are completely real and, culminating in the same thing: A murder perpetrated by one or more women in different situations and contexts.
You know, I've been a fan of this series since I was very young and talking about each chapter generates an emotion that I can't describe. Make no mistake, it's not that I'm happy about the murders that occur, but the way they captured it on screen, it's a pleasant work of art for lovers of TV series. Yes, I know, I always adore this series but with each chapter I review you will understand why, although I must admit that there were chapters that I didn't like very much but today's is one of the most painful to watch. It is not the strongest in itself (I'll get to that one) but it is one of the ones that generated the most mixed emotions in me because of the nature of it and, for being one of the most spread at the time (I'm talking about the real case but not the chapter since it was towards a Famous so to speak) but let's not get ahead and first let's leave a small spoiler alert here in case you did not see the chapter although, I will not touch the strong points of the chapter, but I will be giving an opinion of some things. And also, a sensitive content alert because, the series is raw and if you are a sensitive person, I don't recommend you to watch it. If I who am not so sensitive am affected more a sensitive person. Let's remember that this series is of police genre, suspense and also, a touch of horror because yes, there are chapters that can easily be horror movies, therefore, it is not for everyone. With these two things in mind, let's start with today's review.
- Trama/Plot:
Well, the story focuses on several characters but the main ones are: Claudia, her lover and the victims (An elderly couple).
This couple, were the grandparents of Claudia's official husband with whom she had two children but Claudia, was anything but an exemplary wife and mother as she lived on the streets, looking for lovers, stealing and getting high on all kinds of substances. Not to mention her aggressive nature and how careless she was with her children, always leaving them alone.
Here I want to clarify something. Claudia's husband was not a saint either, but as time went by he realized that the life they were leading was not adequate, especially with two small children. So he took the reins and took care of the children alone, although it cost him at first, he finally did it while Claudia continued with the same life, caring little or nothing about her family.
Claudia, meets her lover in a pool bar and he is equal or worse than her because with him, her darkest desires, began to come to the surface; She graduated from thief to murderer.
Her husband's grandparents were wealthy, so they plan to rob their house to take everything as valuable as possible, but it doesn't go as planned and ends up with the most grotesque scene imaginable. You have to watch the episode to understand what I'm talking about, although it is implied, by the line of this series, how this episode ended and how the lives of these old people ended. But, to feel the real helplessness as I felt at the time, you must watch it. Believe me you will hate both Claudia and her lover. Although he was an accomplice to this crime, I will explain why later.
- Opini贸n personal/Personal opinion:
Me hizo llorar.
As I said, the ending is what hurt me the most. It was the first time I felt so much helplessness and hatred for a character. When that happens, it's because the actors did a good job and I think Dolores Fonzi and Pablo Rago did a spectacular job playing these two criminals.
The episode was one of the ones I liked the most not only because of its setting which, as in almost all the episodes, is very realistic and we can see very marked the difference in social classes. While the old couple's house is like a mansion, the delinquents' house is falling apart and they live among the garbage (literally). They say that to know someone you have to see their home. I am not talking about a humble house, no, poverty has nothing to do with values, but if someone lives in unsanitary conditions, something is not right. The house of the elderly couple could be said to be middle/upper class but it was perfectly tidy and clean. I don't know if they wanted to play with that but I am very struck by those details. I don't know what you guys think but mental health is reflected in that kind of thing. It's something I noticed in almost every chapter. I read them.
The chapter is very well put together chronologically although many criticized it but I think that Claudia's problem with substances was perfectly captured in addition to the antisocial behavior of both her and her lover. In that aspect they did a great job although I must admit, I liked Dolores Fonzi's performance more than Pablo Rago's. She really made me hate her ha,ha. He really made me hate her ha,ha,ha,ha.
I want to give one last opinion but without giving too much spoiler. The final scene, yes, I know, I mentioned it several times but I'll say it again. It is so well put together and the performance of Perla Santalla (Actress who plays Claudia's husband's grandmother) My God! It made me cry. I imagined I was her at that moment and I really couldn't stand it and I cried like never before. Despite watching it several times, it still causes me the same thing and now, writing it down, I have a lump in my throat. The lack of mercy shown by both Claudia and her lover was horrifying and the psychopathy of both of them, or I don't know what to call such an act, was reflected in the act after committing the crime.
Another thing to highlight is the lack of character of Claudia's mother. This makes me suspect that no one stitched her up in time and that's why she went off the rails. She is that mother who says Yes, my love to everything. She got a couple of short screen time but it was enough to make me want to get on screen and tell her to educate her daughter or put her in jail ha, ha, ha. Partly though, I put myself in her shoes and it must not have been easy to have a daughter with such a horrible character that few could handle. She made me a complacent mother and that is something you should never do if you want strong and good children.
- Caso real/Real case:
As in all the reviews of this series, I put on the cape of an investigator and this time, it was not so difficult to get information about the real case since, as I said before, it was a case that was publicized more than the others because the murderer was someone well known.
The fact occurred in La Recoleta, Buenos Aires in the 80's and the victims were Lino Palacios and his wife. Lino, was a very prestigious cartoonist with innate talent since he was very young, he drew like a professional. Such was his talent that he was hired by famous magazines such as : Cara y caretas, Billiken, Atlantida magazine among others.
His most recognized character was Don Fulgencio and he was very well liked in society because he made people laugh, even during the Second World War. He brought joy in the midst of so much desolation and that was highly valued, therefore, his death caused a revolution.
Claudia Sobrero, 21 years old, when she committed the crime, together with her 21 years old lover, entered the house gaining the trust of the old couple since they knew her because she was the ex of their grandson. They were going to enter with a key given to them by their grandson because previously, as we saw in the chapter, they had tried to enter the house to steal jewelry and money. The couple's grandson provided not only information about his grandparents' finances but also gave Claudia some keys which she would use to try to enter and rob the house. Here I mention a little more the grandson of the couple because, both in the chapter and in real life, although he changed in some way for his daughters, he was an accomplice in the death of Lino and his wife. If he had not provided all that information, perhaps, the story would be different.
The chapter is quite faithful to how the real events happened, we even see how, even though we are not told the grandfather's name, how he has a hobby of drawing.
I really liked how it was almost a hundred percent faithful to the real events and that it perfectly captured how Claudia's life was at that time: A aimless, rebellious, drug-addicted young woman who , along with her lover and with the help of her ex-husband, cold-bloodedly murdered an 80-year-old elderly couple both of whom society held in high esteem.
Even the characters are quite similar to how they really were and Claudia's rebelliousness was almost perfectly captured. I say almost because the hat she usually wore as a cowboy was missing and made her feel empowered so to speak.
The final scene I don't know if it happened as it was shown. I think it did, since in real life, just like that, after killing, they went to play pool.
If you want to know more about the real case I leave this Link to know more in detail the facts and the work of Lino.vv
Personally, I read some cartoons of him and saw several covers of Billiken magazine (my favorite as a child although they are no longer manufactured) but I had never imagined that his life had ended so tragically so I felt differently this crime. This review is not only because the chapter is very well done, but, it is a way to keep alive the memory of Lino who, in his time, made the day of many, When one is forgotten, he dies forever but Lino, will never be.
Well, this is as far as the review of this episode goes. If you are a fan of this format of series based on real events, you can't miss this one that is one of the most faithful to reality and that will make your hair stand on end.
Without more to add, I say goodbye and see you in the next one.
