La animación empieza con el primer capítulo del manga, que bien podría ser el prólogo, el cual nos muestra como solía ser el mundo antes de los humano (incluso los dinosaurios) en el que los demonios gobernaban la tierra y peleaban entre ellos, azotando a los demonios más débiles siendo extremadamente sanguinarios y atroces con ellos en un mundo tan basto. Luego de eso saltamos a la actualidad, en la que se nos presenta al protagonista de esta historia “Akira Fudo” quien luego de una pequeña riña con los matones del colegio, es llamado de repente por su mejor amigo Ryo Asuka quién lo necesita para algo importante. A pesar de los regañadientes de su amiga de la infancia Miki, Akira decide irse con Ryo para entender que es lo que está ocurriendo. Entonces este le explica sobre los demonios y todo el asunto, hablando sobre su padre quién era un investigador de estos últimos y que había descubierto algo grande, como fusionarse con un demonio. Es a partir de aquí que Ryo convence a Akira de intentarlo, y así combatir a los demonios quienes están deseando dominar el mundo y acabar con la humanidad.

The animation starts with the first chapter of the manga, which could well be the prologue, which shows us how the world used to be before humans (even dinosaurs) in which demons ruled the earth and fought among themselves, whipping the weaker demons being extremely bloodthirsty and atrocious with them in such a coarse world. After that we jump to the present day, in which we are introduced to the protagonist of this story "Akira Fudo" who after a small quarrel with the school bullies, is suddenly called by his best friend Ryo Asuka who needs him for something important. Despite the reluctance of his childhood friend Miki, Akira decides to go with Ryo to understand what is going on. He then explains to him about demons and the whole thing, talking about his father who was a researcher of the latter and who had discovered something big, like merging with a demon. It is from here that Ryo convinces Akira to try it, and thus fight the demons who are eager to dominate the world and wipe out humanity.

Ahora daré una opinión personal de este OVA. El estilo d animación me gusta mucho, sintiéndose similar a la animación de estudio Ghibli en cuanto al diseño de los personajes sintiéndose todo bastante fluido y con unos colores bastante vivos. Hay algunos cambios que son ligeros, sin embargo, hacen que la historia fluya mejor en algunas escenas. Lastimosamente, sientes que la historia pasa volando debido a que gran parte de ella se va en puras explicaciones de Ryo sobre el mundo de los demonios, en parte de su origen y los estragos que estos podrían provocar al mundo, como también la fiesta en la discoteca que usan para el ritual en donde el tiempo se va en Ryo convenciendo a Akira de que se ponga a bailar. La escena de la batalla se sintió bastante buena, me gustó. Sin embargo, me pareció frustrante que la historia terminara ahí cuando apenas Akira logra convertirse en Devilman y Ryo está herido tras la batalla. Pero fuera de todo eso, me gustó la adaptación. Le doy un 8.3/10.

Now I will give a personal opinion of this OVA. I like the animation style very much, feeling similar to studio Ghibli animation in terms of character design, feeling quite fluid and with vivid colors. There are some changes that are slight, however, they make the story flow better in some scenes. Unfortunately, you feel like the story flies by because much of it is spent in pure explanations from Ryo about the demon world, part of their origin and the havoc they could wreak on the world, as well as the party at the discotheque they use for the ritual where the time is spent on Ryo convincing Akira to start dancing. The battle scene felt pretty good, I liked it. However, I found it frustrating that the story ended there when barely Akira manages to become Devilman and Ryo is injured after the battle. But out of all that, I liked the adaptation. I give it an 8.3/10.

Este Ova fue realizado 3 años después del primero, este adapta el 2do tomo del manga. Aquí se nos muestra a un Akira mucho más fornido e incluso arrogante, ya siendo un todo devilman. Atiende una llamada extraña que le informa sobre la aparición de un demonio en el drenaje, el cual es Jinmen, una tortuga que se come a la gente y encierra sus rostros en el caparazón, mientras aún se retuercen del dolor. Siendo la antesala para la siguiente batalla que se nos presentará, la cual es con Selene, un demonio pájaro y antiguo enemigo de Ammon (el demonio que tomó el cuerpo de Akira), el cual protegerá a Miki y a su familia.

This Ova was made 3 years after the first one, this one adapts the 2nd volume of the manga. Here we are shown a much stronger and even arrogant Akira, already being an all devilman. He takes a strange call informing him about the appearance of a demon in the sewer, which is Jinmen, a turtle that eats people and locks their faces in their shells, while they still writhe in pain. This is the prelude to the next battle, which is with Selene, a bird demon and former enemy of Ammon (the demon that took Akira's body), who will protect Miki and her family.

Ahora para hablar de este OVA, tengo que decir que el estilo d animación se siente diferente. Algunas escenas y paisajes me recuerdan a la película “Akira” la cual se ambienta en el futuro y es una de las precursoras del cyberpunk. Aquí se cambia el orden de los hechos, debido a que en el manga la pelea con Jinmen no ocurre hasta después con Sirene. Muy seguramente hicieron este cambio para así crear más acción darnos buenas escenas de pelea con los demonios, dejando a Sirene y sus secuaces para después y así darle un mejor final a la trama de este OVA. La música es bastante buena al igual que las secuencias de acción. A diferencia del primer OVA, no todas las escenas se centran en explicaciones, solo en la escena del hospital donde Akira visita Ryo y este último le dice que es extraño que los seres humanos no tengan depredadores naturales cuando todos los demás animales lo tienen, dándose cuenta que su depredador natural son los demonios, quienes podrían regular la sobrepoblación de humanos en el mundo. Es bastante curioso que se mencione en esta escena ya que este argumento y diálogos no se hacen en el manga hasta ya después. Quiero finalizar dándole una puntuación de 8.5/10 siendo una buena adaptación pero algo inconclusa. Lo cual es frustrante que haya terminado así sin más, y para colmo no hay más OVA’s después de esta. Salvo por uno realizado en el 2000, pero este se basa en un Spin-Off del manga donde se narran otros hechos y añaden a otros personajes, junto con un estilo de animación diferente.

Now to talk about this OVA, I have to say that the animation style feels different. Some scenes and landscapes remind me of the movie "Akira" which is set in the future and is one of the precursors of cyberpunk. Here the order of events is changed, because in the manga the fight with Jinmen doesn't happen until after the fight with Sirene. Most likely they made this change to create more action and give us good fight scenes with the demons, leaving Sirene and her henchmen for later and thus give a better ending to the plot of this OVA. The music is quite good as well as the action sequences. Unlike the first OVA, not all the scenes focus on explanations, only in the hospital scene where Akira visits Ryo and the latter tells him that it is strange that humans have no natural predators when all other animals do, realizing that their natural predator is the demons, who could regulate the overpopulation of humans in the world. It is quite curious that it is mentioned in this scene since this plot and dialogues are not made in the manga until already later. I want to end by giving it a score of 8.5/10 being a good but somewhat inconclusive adaptation. Which is frustrating that it ended just like that, and to top it off there are no more OVA's after this one. Except for one made in 2000, but this one is based on a Spin-Off of the manga where other events are narrated and other characters are added, along with a different animation style.
