I hope you're all feeling great. As always, it's a pleasure to come to this space to share with you my opinions about the stories I've been watching lately. Today I want to tell you about a K-drama that completely grabbed me -and that I must confess, I ended up watching almost by accident- thanks to the TV I bought from my dad, which has become my personal haven. 😅
Se trata de "El sabor de lo nuestro", un dorama coreano que estuvo en emisión hace muy poco. Desde que lo vi recomendado por TikTok cuando aún se transmitía, supe que tenía que darle una oportunidad, y no me arrepiento. Este drama cuenta con 10 episodios y está protagonizado por un elenco de lujo:
- Go Min-si como Mo Yeon-joo,
- Kang Ha-neul como Han Beom-woo,
- Bae Na-ra como Han Seon Woo,
- Yoo Su-bin como Shin Chun-seung,
- Kim Shin-rock como Jin Myung-suk,
entre otros actores que supieron aportar carisma y profundidad a sus personajes.
It is "El sabor de lo nuestro ", a Korean dorama that was on air very recently. Since I saw it recommended by TikTok when it was still on the air, I knew I had to give it a chance, and I don't regret it. This drama has 10 episodes and stars an all-star cast:
- Go Min-si as Mo Yeon-joo,
Kang Ha-neul as Han Beom-woo,
Bae Na-ra as Han Seon Woo,- Yoo Su-bin as Shin Chun-seung,
- Kim Shin-rock as Jin Myung-suk,
among other actors who were able to bring charisma and depth to their characters.
¿De qué va la historia?
La trama gira en torno a Han Beom-woo, uno de los herederos de una poderosa empresa de restaurantes de alta cocina. Sin embargo, para asumir el control total del negocio familiar, Beom-woo debe superar una competencia impuesta por su madre: quien consiga tres estrellas (diamantes) para su restaurante será el sucesor oficial.
The plot revolves around Han Beom-woo, one of the heirs to a powerful fine dining restaurant company. However, in order to take full control of the family business, Beom-woo must overcome a competition imposed by his mother: whoever gets three stars (diamonds) for his restaurant will be the official successor.
Obsesionado por ganar, Beom-woo toma decisiones cuestionables, como robar recetas de pequeños restaurantes y provocar su cierre. Pero cuando su hermano menor le juega su propia trampa y su madre le retira el apoyo, se ve obligado a recomenzar desde cero. Así, termina en un pequeño pueblo, Jeonju, donde descubre un restaurante tradicional que sirve un plato muy similar al que promocionaba como original en su restaurante Motto.
Obsessed with winning, Beom-woo makes questionable decisions, such as stealing recipes from small restaurants and causing them to close. But when his younger brother plays his own trap and his mother withdraws her support, he is forced to start over from scratch. Thus, he ends up in a small town, Jeonju, where he discovers a traditional restaurant that serves a dish very similar to the one he promoted as original in his restaurant Motto.
Allí conoce a Mo Yeon-joo, la estricta pero apasionada dueña del restaurante. Sin revelar sus verdaderas intenciones, Beom-woo empieza a trabajar con ella, con el plan de robar su receta. Sin embargo, como todo buen enemies to lovers, lo que comienza con engaño pronto se convierte en algo más.
There, he meets Mo Yeon-joo, the strict but passionate owner of the restaurant. Without revealing his true intentions, Beom-woo starts working with her, with the plan to steal her recipe. However, like all good enemies to lovers, what begins with deception soon turns into something more.
My impressions/Mis impresiones
Este K-drama me sorprendió gratamente. Aunque el tema central es la cocina, se convierte en una excusa perfecta para hablar de amor, crecimiento personal, traiciones familiares y segundas oportunidades. Visualmente, es una obra deliciosa: cada plano en la cocina está cuidadosamente trabajado y transmite ese amor por la gastronomía que se siente real, tanto que me dieron ganas de probar todos los platos coreanos que aparecían en pantalla.
I was pleasantly surprised by this K-drama. Although the central theme is cooking, it becomes a perfect excuse to talk about love, personal growth, family betrayals and second chances. Visually, it's a delightful piece of work: every shot in the kitchen is carefully crafted and conveys that love for gastronomy that feels real, so much so that it made me want to try every Korean dish that appeared on screen.
En cuanto a los personajes/As for the characters
Han Beom-woo no me cayó bien al principio. Su arrogancia era difícil de ignorar, pero poco a poco, gracias a la interpretación de Kang Ha-neul, comencé a simpatizar con él. Tiene momentos muy graciosos y su evolución, aunque algo lenta al final, se siente natural y satisfactoria.
I didn't like Han Beom-woo at first. His arrogance was hard to ignore, but gradually, thanks to Kang Ha-neul's performance, I began to sympathize with him. He has some very funny moments and his evolution, though somewhat slow in the end, feels natural and satisfying.
Mo Yeon-joo es probablemente mi personaje favorito. Puede parecer fría y hasta “malasangrosa” en los primeros episodios, pero entendemos que su dureza viene de sus experiencias. Su amor por la cocina y su desarrollo como mujer fuerte y resiliente me conmovieron. Su ex pareja no era precisamente un villano, y eso hizo que todo fuera más complejo y humano.
Mo Yeon-joo is probably my favorite character. She may seem cold and even “badass” in the first few episodes, but we understand that her toughness comes from her experiences. Her love for cooking and her development as a strong and resilient woman touched me. Her ex-partner wasn't exactly a villain, and that made everything more complex and human.
El romance entre ellos es un clásico "perros y gatos". Al principio se odian, pero la tensión y química se hacen cada vez más fuertes. Aunque no es el romance más intenso que he visto, sí es entretenido y bien llevado, especialmente a partir del episodio 5.
The romance between them is a classic "cats and dogs ". They hate each other at first, but the tension and chemistry grows stronger and stronger. While it's not the most intense romance I've seen, it is entertaining and well paced, especially from episode 5 on.
Secundarios con encanto/Charming secondaries
No puedo dejar de mencionar a Shin Chun-seung y Jin Myung-suk, quienes completan el cuarteto principal y aportan ese toque de calidez y comedia necesario. Confieso que a veces los shipeaba 😏. Son entrañables y balancean perfectamente el drama entre los protagonistas.
I can't fail to mention Shin Chun-seung and Jin Myung-suk, who complete the main quartet and bring that needed touch of warmth and comedy. I confess that sometimes I shipe at them 😏. They are endearing and balance the drama between the leads perfectly.
Por otro lado, sentí que la madre y el hermano del protagonista pudieron tener más profundidad. Sus conflictos se intentan resolver en un solo episodio y eso me pareció algo apurado. Tal vez, si el drama hubiera tenido 12 capítulos en lugar de 10, todo se habría desarrollado con más calma.
On the other hand, I felt that the main character's mother and brother could have had more depth. Their conflicts are attempted to be resolved in a single episode and that seemed a bit rushed to me. Perhaps, if the drama had had 12 episodes instead of 10, everything would have unfolded more calmly.
En conclusión/In conclusion
"El sabor de lo nuestro" puede parecer una comedia romántica más, pero tiene elementos que la hacen especial. Su conexión con la cocina, la evolución emocional de sus personajes y una historia con momentos intensos y otros divertidos, la convierten en una propuesta muy disfrutable.
“El sabor de lo nuestro” may seem like just another romantic comedy, but it has elements that make it special. Its connection with cooking, the emotional evolution of its characters and a story with intense and funny moments make it a very enjoyable proposal.
Le doy un 8/10, y la recomiendo especialmente si te gustan los doramas con dinámicas tipo enemigos a amantes, tramas de redención, y si tienes debilidad por los platos bien presentados en pantalla. 🍜✨
I give it a 8/10, and recommend it especially if you like doramas with enemies to lovers type dynamics, redemption plots, and if you have a weakness for well-presented dishes on screen. 🍜✨
