I don't know what's popping in the movie industry, so my choice of downloads usually revolves around a familiar face, the running time of the movie and sometimes the title. So, when I saw Liam Neeson featured in a comedy that had to do with Italy, I was sort of expecting something remarkable.
Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case because the movie was distinctly flat, and if you go into the movie, like I did, expecting some crack your ribs type of comedy, then you'll be hugely disappointed. It was more like one of those telenovela type of drama that had some romance infused in it.
The movie centres around a father and son that have a dysfunctional relationship. In the beginning, there were allusions made towards this bad blood of sorts between them but nothing was said about the real cause. As the plot thickens, you later find out the tragedy behind their sour relationship and their journey to amending it.
The journey took them to a manor in Italy that they intended to sell off and then use the proceeds to fund a different venture. While at Italy, the son met a lady with her own baggage, fell in love and you know how it goes.
To be completely honest, I was already bored out of mind in the first ten minutes and wanted to just cut my losses and just delete it but I figured, it's Liam Neeson, so it surely can't be horrible. My patience sadly didn't pay off and the actual comedy that made me download the film wasn't present.
For everything it lacked in humour, it actually had in some quality acting. The portrayals of the roles, particularly by Liam who plays a troubled old man was spot on. There was a lot of crying, hugs, and some of the non-cringey stuff that made it an "emotional spectacle".
Then there was also the cringey stuff like the time Jack(Liam's son) went to an empty restaurant for the first time, then fell on the ground, and then typically looked up to see a pretty lady. Yeah, you know where this is going.
Personally, I liked the film even though it underwhelmed in the one thing that I originally wanted. I started watching with the intention of seeing some comedy, but as time went on I just settled for an emotional drama with cringy and sub-par humour nuanced into it.
