High Water (Wielka woda): an engaging, original and highly educational Netflix TV Show!!!
Hello my dear friends of the Movies & TV Shows community, it's a pleasure to stop by again. Today I bring you the review of a series that surprised me by how it hooked me.
It's about "The Great Flood" and I'm talking about a Polish series available on Netflix.
You see, I'm not one to choose productions in unknown languages, not because I don't like them, in fact I love them, but I mainly choose English in what I watch to take advantage and practice my ear a bit. I am even starting to watch movies or series with English subtitles to make learning and/or reviewing more effective.
In addition to this, I like to watch whatever it is in its original language as I don't like dubbing. The fact that the mouth movement doesn't match the sound throws me off, and I also enjoy knowing the actors' voices.
So I watched it in Polish with Spanish subtitles. When I knew that the language was going to detract from its appeal because of what I just discussed, I almost backed out. But for my taste, the plot was so but so tempting that I could not refuse to know what that great flood was, what had happened, what consequences it generated.

La Gran Inundación (Wielka woda): una serie de Netflix atrapante, original y muy educativa!!
Hola mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Movies & TV Shows, es un placer pasar por aquí nuevamente. Hoy les traigo la reseña de una serie que me sorprendió por cómo me enganchó.
Se trata de “La Gran Inundación” y estoy hablando de una serie polaca disponible en Netflix.
Verán, no soy de elegir producciones en idiomas desconocidos, no porque no me gusten, de hecho me encantan, pero elijo principalmente al inglés en lo que veo para aprovechar y practicar un poco el oído. Incluso estoy empezando a ver películas o series con subtítulos en inglés para que sea más efectivo el aprendizaje y/ o repaso.
Además de esto, me gusta ver lo que sea en su idioma original ya que no me gustan los doblajes. El hecho de que el movimiento de la boca no coincida con el sonido me desconcentra, y también disfruto conociendo la voz de los actores.
Así que la vi en polaco subtitulada al español. Cuando supe que el idioma iba a quitarle atractivo por lo que acabo de comentar, casi doy marcha atrás. Pero para mi gusto, la trama era tan pero tan tentadora que no pude negarme a saber qué era aquella gran inundación, qué había pasado, qué consecuencias generó.
And I must tell you one thing: the series is a spectacle. For those who are not fans of this subject matter, it is very likely that they will be bored, but for me, it was a delight that I finished watching in just a day and a half.
A natural catastrophe that takes place in 1997 and actually ends up being harmful due to the negligent management of the city's urban sprawl is intertwined with a story of addiction and a girl whose mother is unknown at first.
Poland does not give too many twists and turns with what it comes to tell us in this story, because what seems to be a suspense in the plot, which leads you to assume for a moment how things really are, because the next second the creators tell us that yes, we are right.
I really liked that, I loved that the focus was not to assume what happens with the secondary story but to know very well what happens to the hydrologist Jasmina Tremer in charge of studying and solving this problem that threatens to devastate the city.
I like that the professional has a life and that she is pointed out, that they don't pretend that she appears, solves the problem, chaos happens and the story ends. No, she has a life, and not only that, but they make a very good focus, and a very realistic one in the fact that because of her age she is not right.
Y debo decirles una cosa: la serie es un espectáculo. Para quienes no son amantes de esta temática es muy probable que se aburran, pero para mí, fue una delicia que terminé de ver tan solo en un día y medio.
Una catástrofe natural que tiene lugar en 1997 y que en verdad termina siendo dañina debido al negligente manejo de la expansión urbana de la ciudad se entremezclan con una historia de adicción y una niña cuya madre se desconoce en un primer momento.
Polonia no da demasiadas vueltas con lo que viene a contarnos en esta historia, pues lo que parece que va a ser un suspenso en la trama, que te lleva a suponer por un instante cómo son las cosas en verdad, pues al segundo siguiente los creadores nos dicen que sí, que estamos en lo cierto.
Me gustó muchísimo eso, me encantó que el foco no fuese suponer lo que pasa con la historia secundaria sino saber muy bien qué es lo que le pasa a la hidróloga Jasmina Tremer encargada de estudiar y dar solución a esta problemática que amenaza con arrasar con la ciudad.
Me gusta que la profesional tenga una vida y la señalen, que no hagan de cuenta que aparece, soluciona, ocurre el caos y la historia termina. No, tiene una vida, y no solamente eso, sino que hacen un muy buen foco, y uno muy realista en el hecho de que por su edad no tiene razón.
She arrives at an obsolete government group, with old, outdated papers, they call her themselves and they are the ones who assure her that these are the right maps to act on. The young professional insists that no, that everything will lead to a great flood if they continue to rely on those old studies, but they do not listen to her, because her degree is not as old as the others who have been in the same office for years.
This fascinated me, because I have experienced it firsthand, and to expose this situation and show that many times new voices are ignored because the years are the voice of truth, is exquisite.
I am not saying that professionals who have been working for years are not tremendously wise, because I think they are. But for most fields technology has evolved so much that if those scientists decided to follow the path of tradition and disregard technological advances, any voice fresh out of college (and sometimes even this is no longer necessary) will have more and better tools to solve a particular problem.
Llega a un grupo del gobierno obsoleto, con papeles de antaño, desactualizados, la llaman ellos mismos y son ellos quienes le garantizan que son esos los mapas adecuados para actuar. La joven profesional insiste en que no, en que todo desencadenará en una gran inundación si siguen basándose en aquellos viejos estudios, pero no la escuchan, porque su título no tiene la larga data que el de los otros que llevan años en esa misma oficina.
Esto me fascinó, porque lo he vivido en carne propia, y que se exponga esta situación y que demuestren que muchas veces las nuevas voces son ignoradas porque los años son la voz de la verdad, es exquisito.
Ojo que no digo que los profesionales que llevan años trabajando no sean tremendos sabios, porque pienso que lo son. Pero para la mayoría de los campos la tecnología ha evolucionado tanto pero tanto, que si aquellos científicos decidieron seguir por el camino de la tradición y menospreciar a los avances tecnológicos, cualquier voz recién salida de la universidad (y a veces ya ni siquiera esto es necesario) va a tener más y mejores herramientas para solucionar un problema concreto.

As I was saying, the story that takes place parallel to (or within) the imminent threat of the flood, is very beautiful, and I also like the fact that it is not a romance story as they usually introduce, but it is the story of a mother, a father and a daughter. A mother who hasn't seen that little girl in years.
From my point of view, it is excellent. I give it a 10 because I think it is original, educational and catching.
Sumado a esto, la serie tiene lugar en Varsovia y se trata de un hecho real, que terminó en la evacuación de la población porque la inundación fue tan grande, que llegó a las casas, a los departamentos, terminó con miles de construcciones; y aunque la primera vía de escape fue llevar a la gente a pisos superiores, no hubo más remedio que vaciar la ciudad.
Como les comentaba, la historia que tiene lugar paralela (o dentro) de la inminente amenaza de la inundación, es muy bella, y también me gusta el hecho de que no es una historia de romance como suelen introducir, sino que es la historia de una madre, un padre y una hija. Una madre que hace años que no ve a esa niña.
Desde mi punto de vista, es excelente. Le doy un 10 porque me parece original, educativa y atrapante.
